• Background

  Toriel is the first boss monster of the game Undertale, and is the second character overall that the protagonist character meets at the start of the game ;the first being Flowye the Flower, whom she saves the protagonist from. oriel also serves as the caretaker of the ruins called which are called "Home"and helps guide the protagonist through the first few puzzle rooms. Toriel's name is a pun on Tutorial, given her excessive hand holding through the first small portion of the game, rather then letting the player figure it out for themselves, as she deems most of the puzzle and monsters too dangerous for the protagonist to handle. After the protagonist has made it through the Ruins on their own Toriel will take them in as her own and give them a place to sleep as well become their academic teacher given that she see's the human staying with her in her home.
  
  When the player refuses to stay and wishes to return home, Toriel proceeds into the basement which holds the only way into the rest of the underground, stating that theprotagonist will die if they set foot out there, that Asgore will take their SOUL, but for what is unclear. (Depending on action in the Ruins her boss fight can end one of three ways. Spared(Pacifist Route), Killed(Non-genocide/Normal Route), Killed(Genocide Route) If the Genocide Route is not active by the end of the Ruins Toriel will ask the protagonist to prove their strength to her, and if spared will not attack if they are below 3 hp, instead after beng spared will offer a hug and telling the protagonist to never return, and saying farewell. If killed on a non genocide route, Toriel will smile and say that the protagonist is strong enough to continue on, before turning into dust. On a Genocide Route No words are given and Toriel is killed with one blow, stating that the protagonist hated her that much, and that she saw who she was protecting by keeping the human with her, not the human, but the other monsters before turning to dust.
