Aekra

Unlike most dragonborn, Aekra is clanless, meaning she has no formal last name. The exact reason for this is a deeply shameful facet of her past, and she doesn't like revealing it, nor does she know exactly why it happened.

While smooth dragonborn are rare, they aren't considered ill omens or abnormal in any way, nor are they considered blessed. They merely are. Ones with tails and humanlike hands are even rarer, especially when these traits are combined. They are hereditary, however, and passed down from generation to generation, much like scale color. Aekra was born to two dragonborn who's names, coloration, and clan were a complete mystery to her. Shortly after her birth, immediately after she was named, her parents committed an atrocity so horrific that they wiped their clan from the child, hoping that being an outcast would be better than being a disgrace.

Left on the steps of an old dragonborn who happened to worship Pelor, she was inducted into the clergy at a young age in order to at least hide her shameful past. Shortly after she was able to speak Draconic, her adoptive father perished, and she was transferred to another, larger church. There, she was the only one of her kind, and was mocked and ostracized for her race and appearance. Even among her own, her physical abnormalities always left her feeling isolated and distant.

Retreating from the mockery of her peers, she buried herself in studying her faith, showing a gift for healing. Ultimately, she was left in a basement and given food and water, but nothing else. Her only companions being an old hermit named Kayle living in the wine cellar, who told her stories of a strange, distant land. Even he, eventually left, after granting her several trinkets and the book from which he read his stories from. He vanished, but Aekra thinks she'll meet him again. After years of training, she was sent out on a mission to spread her faith, and this failed utterly. As an awkward, socially naive, sulfurous smelling, massive lizard, she was treated as a freak at best, a curse at worst, and was driven out of town after town once more. Unable to buy or sell anything, she has since lived on the outskirts of civilization, often sleeping outside, or in abandoned churches.

Despite this, she buried it all under a smiling, happy exterior, but any prodding may cause her to crack, and she'll withdraw in tears.
