Description

She rode atop a clean white horse, her sharp blue eyes gazing forward at the city. This was Katja Sauer, the famous Lady Knight of the Knights of the People. She pulled off her bascinet, letting her blonde hair fall down from inside, and the age became clear on her face, the faint wrinkles under her eyes and beside her mouth from years of smiling and frowning and dramatic expressions; that was her way, always showing her true emotion, it was honest that way. Though it was hidden by her heavy armor, the way she carried herself would be enough clue into the body beneath the armor; years of physical labor and training had done her well, and age had hardly burdened her as it would.

Katja pushed her hair from her face, and stretched her muscular arms to the air, “Goodness, and how many more miles do we have left?”

“10.” A voice from the back of the group called, and Katja’s horse seemed to snort in disappointment; she too, sighed, and pressed her face into her armored gloves.

“Well, I suppose we should get going then. That bridge won’t build itself.”

Personal History

Katja was born to a poor farmer in the countryside, under the territory of a corrupt lord. She grew up with her father paying hefty taxes, her mother having died giving birth. As Katja grew up under poverty, she began to loathe the nobles who pressured her father.

At sixteen years old, Katja left her hometown to become a Knight, her head full of fairytales. But as she attempted her dreams, she was met with cruel backlash, and began to realize the world of Knights could be just as corrupt. So the woman ventured out on her own, managing to find a few who could train her on swordsmanship, and slowly, she began to raise a militia.

During this time, she met a young man and was engaged; however, Katja sacrificed this relationship for her dreams.

These days, she is the powerful leader of the Knights of the People, a traveling militia for the people. Her groups moves from village, to commerce center, to kingdoms, assisting the needy, defending from bandits and doing what most would consider the “greater good”.

Family History

The Sauer family is made up of mostly farmers, craftsmen and otherwise, the “little people.”

The exception to this, came with Lady Cassandra, who would be Katja’s mother. Little was known of her when she arrived to their small village- she was a beautiful women and a talented mage, drawing upon holy powers to cure the sick, and do the unthinkable. Katja’s father, Otto, was smitten within weeks.

Eventually, Cassandra would confide in him the truth of her origins, though the details exactly have been lost to time. Her ties to the heavens were great enough that their union was heavily frowned upon- and the child born from it would result in the death of Cassandra.

Katja would grow up sheltered from the church because of this, and her father raised her to fear magic, in all its forms.

Their relationship is awkward- neither wishes to speak of the feelings towards each other, and the obvious differences in their roles causes tension. However, it’s not so easily hidden, the way Katja defends the bandit when she is attacked- either verbally or physically.
