Dexter Byrnes

Dexter has seen a lot in his life. More than most will, and definitely more than any should. He also isn't what you'd call "a typical" person. Though he's pretty average for his profession.

You see, Dexter is a Hunter. No he doesn't go tracking deer and the like, when he goes on the hunt he's looking for the boogeyman that consequently does actually exist. And his type of hunting generally leads to a rather...short lifespan. And an incredibly lonely one. Though Dex kind of lucked out in that respect, because he hunts with his little brother.

Dexter didn't get started in this because of some glory hunt, he didn't have an epiphany or whatever people call it these days. He just didn't know anything else. His father was a hunter, and after his mother died he remarried another hunter. This is where Sebastian came along so to speak, Dex’s stepmother had brought a kid into the marriage as well, 4 year old Sebastian. Dexter is four years older than Sebby but he raised the kid much more than their parents ever did.

Dexter had to grow up quickly, there wasn't any time for both of the kids to be well...kids. So the bulk of his life his sole care in the world was making sure Sebastian was taken care of, no matter how bad it got, no matter how scarce they were on food, he took care of his brother. And he still does, maybe a little too much for Seb sometimes since they're both grown men. But he did what he could to give Seb a normal life, helped him with his homework when they were still doing school, made sure he got to do all the fun stuff like make mudpies and eat so much candy they threw up, but he also made sure he knew how to protect himself.

All his hopes for Sebastian though were dashed when their parents were killed on the job, Dexter was 17 when he became a full-time dad to his little brother and he just couldn't manage it the way he wanted. He never got Seb back in school, he couldn't provide the same way, and he just didn't have the skills. He tried, but he still views it in a way as failing his little brother. Still, he managed to keep them both alive for ten years so he couldn't be too bad at this whole...big brother thing right?
