The Quiet Foot Clan established themselves along the dense grove of trees known as Ulten Woods, along the Langerlleyayr River. The settlement extends northeast to the Clyrr Grasslands and southwest along Bybsu's Plateau. The entire area is a part of Tasyr Valley. This is prime territory for the region's Wood Elves, untouched from the likes of humans or the high elves. But there is tension.
Both groups are looking to expand into the clan's homeland. More rarely, raiding parties from an alliance of goblins and orcs send parties to chart the remote area. The Quiet Foot Clan lives off the land in a simple lifestyle, while the world around them changes. They build modest homes and shops from the trees which surround them. Life revolves around the Earth. Water. Air. They worship spirits that they believe live in the elements. A time when elementals roamed alongside the Wood Elves forms the basis of their religious mythology.
Children are raised to fulfill a role in tribal society. One could become a teacher, learning the old ways and passing them on. Others were farmers, fisherfolk or hunters. They provided food for their homes and others. Some were guards; warriors whose only role was to watch for outsiders and protect the clan with their lives. There were also healers, who treated injuries and concocted healing potions to cure disease.
Bartering played a large role in their society. A currency of exotic metals and beads existed, along with the direct trade of products and services. Some trades relied heavily on exchange, while certain services had more altruistic goals. Healers did their work free of charge. They had faith in their deity, an ancient Dryad healer, who believed in a life without the pursuit of accumulation. In that spirit, the society would also provide for the needs of the healers, making their lives as comfortable as they could.
Those who acquired many things, could become merchants. Some even traded with the world outside of Tasyr Valley. One such man was an artisan, a bowmaker and archer. Aranath Oakgrove often rode from the Valley to different cities, looking to pawn off his handmade bows and arrows. He was more outgoing than many of his xenophobic peers. There were many things he enjoyed about the outside world, especially the people. He didn't believe in the dividing wall many wood elves put up between the other elves and humans.
Goblin and orc incursions were becoming a major problem. The Quiet Foot clan needed allies. Aranath was the closest thing the tribe had to a diplomat. It would be up to him to negotiate with outsiders and inform them of the invasive parties. Unfortunately for diplomatic efforts, Hunter Oakgrove was easily distracted. He was of the age of finding a mate. Such thoughts cut into his ability to focus and concentrate.
In a new experience for Aranath, he was chosen from his village to represent his tribe at a costume ball. He would be meeting with royalty. He carried a tribal title, but it was really just for show compared to some of the people at the ball. He felt out of place in clothing. Naked, in a way.
The simple hunter would have to schmooze with local big wigs and their invited guests. It's an experience the curious wood elf looks forward to.
