Kin once lead a life as a normal human being, though it was a rather short and fleeting one. He was a sickly child who often slipped in and out of consciousness, his dreams being the one escape he had from the painful existence that reality had given him. Diagnosed with a terminal illness at the tender age of 15, he spent most of his life between white hospital walls and could only imagine what life must have been like beyond them. While his body was quite obviously frail, he spent his time broadening the horizons of his mind and training himself to be a lucid dreamer so that he could control the alternate realities that he painted for himself while he was unconscious.
He lived for several more years despite the diagnosis and often had recurring dreams of the same cloaked figure, a kind older gentleman, that would come and teach him how to increase the power over his dreams that he had. With deteriorating health, Kin quickly found himself far more interested in sleeping to train with this elusive mentor, even even if it meant begging for sedatives, rather than staying awake to endure the pain. Thanks to the man, who called himself a Dreamweaver, he was soon creating vast universes and incredibly complex worlds and creatures within his dreams, and he found some measure of happiness there. Eventually, there simply came a time when he didn't wake up from his dreams.

Because he had died in his sleep, Kin's spirit wandered the Realm of Dreams aimlessly for an unknown amount of time--years were different there than here, and it wasn't all that bad considering that he was just trapped in his own dream, or some variant of it. With his dream mentor gone and no Dreamweaver to guide him out of the space his spirit was trapped in, his soul had no choice but to remain there. He wouldn't realize his purpose until he was rekindled as a child born from the stars; the old Dreamweaver had finally passed, and in trapping him here he had assured that the realm would have a new Dreamweaver. Kin was reborn from the last wish made on a dying star; he came into (re)existence with a simple enough purpose: a child had wished, pleaded, to no longer have nightmares. He became the first of several creatures born into the dream world, later calling themselves Dreamcatchers, and can enter and alter any dream that comes into existence.
In addition to this, Kin is also able to create dreams and is considered the overseer of the Realm of Dreams, being responsible for its upkeep and ever-changing environments. His darker side is that he is as much nightmare as he is dream, and tends to lead wayward souls trapped in the dream world (those who died while having a dream, like he did) more astray rather than actually helping them find the afterlife because he likes the company. Because of this he has also earned the title "The Keeper of Spirits", in addition to just "the Dreamweaver". He often finds himself bored with the Realm of Dreams and leaves it frequently to pretend that he has a normal life in the real world, or to tinker with dreams in reality. This is frowned upon and often causes dreams and nightmares alike to escape his realm, but he's never been one to concern himself with consequences. When in the real world, he often poses as someone of the more creative side, either an artist or musician, sometimes both, and often spends his time learning all that he can and experiencing everything that the world has to offer. He lives life recklessly, but fully.
