((Sorry I've been AWOL. My 1 year old is teething and my husband wasn't feeling well. I should be able to post soon.))

The door opened yet again but no new prisoners entered, just a guard captain and the court official who had taken Eona to her audience with the chancellor, a few more guards, crossbows at the ready, could be seen standing outside.

"You will all come with me now," said the official. "Captain Devlin's met have been ordered to shoot at will if any of you attempt to escape or cause any other trouble," he finished, then left the cell. With little choice, the five prisoners left as well and were led to the same audience chamber where their skills had been tested. Sitting in the same chair he had been before, was Chancellor Delmarin, right hand to the king.

"The five of you have been selected to perform a task for the benefit of his Majesty and the kingdom," the chancellor said once the prisoners had been placed in the center of the room and the guards had taken up their positions around the edges. "If you do well, your sentences may be...reconsidered."

"That is not something you need to know at this time," the chancellor replied. "You will be told what to do when the time is right. For now, all you need know is that you will be traveling south to a place called Blaeton near the Udrium border. Since it would be suspicious for prisoners to be going there you will not be under guard. "

He paused, and a strange light came to his eye. "Some of you may be thinking that you will be able to escape. Well, that will not be possible. While each of you was sleeping a rune was placed on you. We will be able to track you with it. And more, should the need arise."

"Yes," replied the chancellor, glad someone had taken the bait. And even more pleased that it had been the blonde elf b!tch. "Perhaps you'd like a demonstration?"

The court official, who had been standing next to the chancellor jerked in suprise. "My Lord Delmarin!" he exclaimed, "you don't mean you're going to...? But what will we do then?"

"Shut up, Nestor," the chancellor said as he picked up a small stone tablet that had been lying on a table next his chair. "Adjustments can be made. The good lady wants a demonstration."

He held the tablet up so the prisoners could see the runes that were carved into it, covering about half it's surface. "Each one of these runes corresponds to one of you. If you attempt to cause trouble..." he placed a finger on one of the runes. Assallya had barely a moment to realize that something was happening before her body transformed into dust that disappeared before it hit the floor. "...poof."

((Yep. That was the special thing she wanted to do.))

"I take it you are now all eager to assist your king?" the chancellor's smile would have been insulting if her hadn't just made someone disappear. It was the smile of a sadistic child who has just killed a small animal for fun. "I think it's time you all went back to your cell for a bit. Your compatriot's desire for a demonstration means we have to adjust some things before you'll be setting out." He motioned for the guards to collect the prisoners. "Don't worry though, it shouldn't be long."

And with that the group was escorted back to the large cell then had been in before.

The door to the cell opened and four guards came in with crossbows at the ready. Each targeted one of the prisoners as three more guards walked in. These men were huge and wore the fact that they were used to violence like a mantle.

Two of the larger men went to Murcary and each grabbed one of his arms. The third stood in front of him for a moment then drove his fist into the prisoner's stomach. As Murcary was gasping for breath, the guard took the knife off him and picked up the discarded restraints. "The chancellor is very interested in how you managed to slip his restraints and bring a knife in here. Very interested. So you and I, and my two friends here are going to have a little talk." His smile was enough to sicken the bravest person, "and we're going to make you sing like a bird."

With a jerk of his head to the other two large guards, he walked out of the cell. The two large guards dragged a still gasping Murcary out and were followed by the four with the crossbows who kept then aimed at the prisoners until they left.

The little group was alone once more, their number now reduced to three.
