Saro noticed when David had slowed down,he gulped,it felt like something was stuck in his throat."..Y-yeah.It's right there."He said to David,pointing at the emergency room a couple of feet away from them.This was bad and he knew it was,broken ribs were both painful and deadly since a bone could puncture a lung.Saro shuddered.

"G-good." David sighed, his breath catching in his throat. David looked up at Saro and smiled through the pain. "Will you stay by my side? No matter what happens?" He asked, taking a couple steps forward and grabbing Saro's hand.

Saro frowned a bit,but that familiar kind smile returned to the teenage boys face,"Yes,I won't leave you..I promise."He told David,even though he really didn't believe in promises.All it was a word that many people have shattered many times before,why would anyone believe in the power of promise.

David smiled and started walking towards the emergency room doors, a slight limp to his step now. "I hurt now...." He said, letting go of Saro's hand and bringing it to his ribs. When he let go of his ribs, a blood stain could be seen as well as a bit of rib sticking out of his skin.

Saro kept looking at David,fearing that all this movement could make something worse."..what do you mean,is that pain..'Saro didn't finish that sentence.No,instead the color in his checks drained out,this was what he was afraid of."..Uh,uh don't move!I-I'm going to get a doctor!"He said,and then ran off.He didn't want this boy to get worse, nor die.The very thought made the teenager shudder,"E-excuse me!"Saro said running over to the nurses desk.

David nodded slowly, sitting on the sidewalk in front of the emergency room not sure what to do. He moved his fingers back and forth, yawning slightly from tiredness. The side of his shirt was stained with blood now, matching the color of the grimy sweater.

Saro came back with two nurses that rolled a stretcher out to David.The teenage boy couldn't keep himself still,he kept fidgeting or trembling with each step he took.When the two nurses go to help David up he took a few steps froward,"H-how do you feel?"He asked the boy,his voice shaking a bit.

(Sorry, I was packing my books into a box for the move.)

David looked up as Saro and two nurses came outside in a hurry, shocked at the little boy. He allowed the nurses to help him up and thought about Saro's question. "I.... don't know..." He said honestly. "It hurts, but i can't really feel it anymore...."

Saro seemed to grow pale with that statement,the teenage boy swallowed,"..o-oh.."Was all he said,and then looked at the ground,shuffling his feet quickly.

David laid back on the stretcher, reaching his hand over the edge again to grab Saro's hand. "Thanks for staying with me." He said with a small smile, the nurses standing at the top and bottom of the stretcher.

Saro took the boys hand gently,he was positive that Saro was shaking more than David.The teenager really wanted this boy to be alright,"..your welcome."Saro said with a smile.

The nurses started wheeling David inside carefully, trying not to hit any bumps. They got inside without a problem and went over to the operating room immediately, one of the nurses telling Saro he couldn't go any further.

Saro walked beside them very quickly,he kept a close eye on the boy.Maybe he shouldn't have let David walk at all,he kinda figured that he should find help well the boy wasn't that bad..He stopped,"..O-oh right."Saro looked away, tugging on his sleeves nervously.

The nurses brought David into the operating room, giving him an anesthetic to make him sleep. Once he was asleep they started working on him, fixing his ribs and nose as best they could.

An hour and a half later David came out of the operating room on the same stretcher they brought him in on, bandages on his now naked chest and head. The nurses brought him to a private room and set him on the bed, leaving a minute later to find Saro. Once they found him they asked a couple of simple questions like how old he was, what was his name, and how did this happen. Once they were finished asking questions about David, they asked Saro if he was family.

For the hour and a half Saro kept pacing,no matter what he did he just wouldn't calm down.This was a little boy,the teenage boy covered his faces with his hands for a few minutes,deep down he knew everything would be perfectly fine, well at least okay.Saro stopped, as if he had been frozen in time,when the nurses found him."..Uh..he's name is David.."Saro said softly.His age,and what happened to him Saro didn't know.
Saro seemed t grow distant at that question,'Are you his family?',"..no,no I'm just a close friend of the boys."Saro answered.He smiled as he spoke,but it was very strained.

The nurse talked over something for a minute with a couple other nurses before talking to Saro again. "Does the boy have any family?" She finally asked, a clipboard in her hand.

Saro shook his head, he had no idea who the boy had and who he didn't have."..sorry,I don't know."He told the nurse.

The nurse sighed and waved her hand around. "Well I guess if your a close friend you can see him." She said, glancing around to make sure nobody else was watching. "But if anyone asks, your a family member. Ok?" She added, walking towards David's room.

Saro looked at her surprised,the hospitals rules were pretty strict in only allowing family members,but David was an orphan.So the reason she was letting him see David may have been so the kid has someone there to help him out."R-right."Saro nodded, quickly following her,"..Thank you."He said softly.

The nurse arrived at David's door, pushing it open slightly to reveal David wide awake. "Your still here." He said with a grand smile, struggling to get into a sitting position. "No, no, no." The nurse scolded, pushing David gently back down. "You need to stay laying down for a while so your ribs can heal." She explained, waving Saro into the room.
