I promised my friend I'd make a feral character, but I have absolutely zero knowledge of ferals in general. So I ask you all, what do I need to know to play a feral? What scenarios will I encounter, is there any slang or conduct when it comes to ferals, or something like that?
I'm just like zero percent aware about the subject. In all my years of RPing, (which is like... three?), I've never played a feral.
How would I talk? Do I not talk? Do I just speak through actions?? I'm so confused!
Sorry for ranting, but this just is confuzzling me. Help?

Ferals are animals that are not majorly humanized/anthromorphic. Anthro animals would be like the characters in Disney's Robin Hood vs Feral like Todd and Copper from Disney's Fox and the Hound.
Strict realistic ferals do not talk at all and act as close to real animals as possible though many people do not play this type of feral as it can be difficult.
Some may have an internal dialogue describing their thoughts or narrating the motives behind their actions to give the other player something to work off of.
Semi-realistic ferals can talk like any other character though usually humans and humaniod characters would not understand them unless the RP takes place in some world where animals can talk normally. Think like The Lion King or Secrect of NIMH movies the animals talk but humans normally don't hear talking, just animal noises unless magic or something is involved to allowed talking between the two groups. In many works either animals/ferals can't understand human or they can but can't be understood themselves. They may know they aren't understood or they may just think humans are not very smart for not understanding them.
This is based off what I've seen in other places. I hope it helps a little and isn't too confusing.

I used to do feral RP way back in the beginning when I first joined Neopets/Furcadia. I usually just RPed my critters acting like their animal selves, but speaking English with each other. So I'd incorporate a wolf's natural behavior of things like playing with pups, nipping to put another in their place etc. alongside regular speech.
The idea behind this is that ferals talk with each other in body language and use their voices in specific ways, and the speech was usually just a human verbalization of this language to help make the roleplay more fun and understandable. As Ms_Draca pointed out, this is only understandable between the ferals themselves, and not literally English.
In some places, people opt to only verbalize thoughts and have the animals communicate only through body language, leaving the speech bit out.
It's up to what you and your RP partner find most enjoyable. If your friend has RPed ferals before, maybe ask them what their usual setup is?
