This Looking For RP topic is marked as closed, meaning it is no longer seeking new players.

I'm still trying to get my bearings here, so...

I'm up for either joining or starting an RP. I prefer flexible-length, almost always write at least one full paragraph. I also prefer things that are a bit more freeform than things with lots of rules and details that I'll need to keep checking. Frequently poor spelling and grammar bug me, as do first-person writing and posts that are overly simplistic and lack any details about what or how, but I can deal with it so long as it looks like you're at least trying. I prefer small groups over 1x1 or large groups, especially if there's any sort of adventuring going on, and tend to avoid taking the lead on anything (but I can if I have to). I'm not against romance, but it should certainly not be expected.

As for settings and characters, I'm pretty flexible. As an overall, I'm up for fantasy (past or present), science fantasy, supernatural, and modern and near-future scifi. Not so much into the heavy scifi or full reality stuff. I'm kinda burnt out about vampires and zombies, and although I have no problem with part-animal characters in general (I have a few myself), I like when animal people aren't the primary or only thing all over the world. I'm also not a fan-RP person, especially since my exposure to most entertainment media is pretty limited.

Although none of my characters are up here presently, some of the ones I have handy include:
  • Kyra Lo'ora - A brown-skinned half-elf woman with a lazy-but-proud attitude, exiled from her desert-roaming clan after being tainted by unstable magic. Designed for a science fantasy setting, but can easily fit into plain fantasy.
  • Gregor Moretti, aka Blacksnake - A male soldier/assassin (can also fit a merc role) who can easily slide into any role a job requires, but has no apparent personality of his own. Merciless and efficient, he chose his job as an excuse to kill things. Also designed for science fantasy (as a hunter of non-humans), but can also fit modern supernatural/fantasy and near-future scifi.
  • Willow - A cheerful, wild little shapeshifting squirrel girl who's slowly teaching herself magic while also raising herself in the forest, still too young to realize how sad her past really is. Works in pretty much any fantasy setting, so long as the world isn't smoldering ruins.
  • Taryn - A shadow creature who usually appears as a punkish teenage girl, and who delights in making people uncomfortable in any way she can. Again, designed for science fantasy, but she can work in just about any setting with room for magic. Because she's literally made of magic and darkness.
  • Julian Tamagrin - A youngish wandering thief who has survived mostly on his charm, and who accidentally ended up with an infant ice dragon that he's become very attached to. Ideal in a classic fantasy setting, but can fit to just about any fantasy setting.
  • Loki Nightblade - A shapeshifting panther demon guy who's really just a sweet kitty-cat. He's a complete push-over for any female, but is ever a (awkward) gentleman. Can fit into almost any fantasy or supernatural setting.
  • Nyx Chaser, aka The Black Orchid - A stoic woman whose alternate identity is known for selling a regenerative salve on the black market and coldly killing those she dislikes. Molded by a harsh life, she does the wrong things for the right reasons. Designed for a spacy science fantasy, but I'd be up to modifying her to fit other settings.
  • Shanique Mosira - A wandering entertainer who specializes in contortion and acrobatics, but when not in her colorful, crowd-pleasing performance attire, she's a very relaxed, modest, and maternal woman. Designed for fantasy (specifically, one where she'd be associated with water and the eel), but can easily fit elsewhere.
I'd like to play with you ^^ do any of my characters particularly interest you?

A number of your characters look fairly interesting. I'd be useless on anything with your Pokemon-oriented characters, but aside from that, I've never been too picky. I'll definitely say that some combinations could be trickier than others, though.

I'm not a big 1x1 person though, so it'd be nice to have others around as well.

And, erm, sorry to pick at things, but... plague doctors were a middle ages thing, long before the renaissance. And, I'm guessing you're referencing Final Fantasy with the Carbuncle, but that term is used most frequently for a rather nasty wound/infection, and occasionally for circular red gems, the latter of which I imagine is where the Carbuncle summon came from. <.< 'Course, I think most of the folks who'd see that character are more familiar with the summon anyway. ^^;

Knew I was forgetting something... meant to add my contortionist to the list. And now she's there. :)
Well, the mask style is one you can see from the renaissance, if not the actual profession of curing the plague.
As for Marina, yes, it is a final fantasy creature and yes, I know what a real carbuncle is x3 I just have no idea what else to call it.
In any case, I'm completely open to doing a group RP if we find more people who are interested.

Would Magi interest you and be a good fit for this character? :)

Definitely an interesting character. Unless it's set in a world where non-humans naturally exist and are at least reasonably well-known, though, he'd prolly freak out the first time he saw her. ^^ Actually, he'd prolly freak anyway unless non-humans are pretty common. I have no problem with any of those cases, though.
So for a fantasy setting, do you have a preference towards any of my characters? All of then except for Archur and Doc can really be put into a fantasy setting.

Magi's story has been frozen for a while now. She basically got cast out into a random world/universe, and whomever I pick up the story with determines what this world looks like. As long as magic exists there, she can exist there. I'm willing to roll with the punches and go with whatever setting you prefer as far as non-humans go. :)

Should work fine, then. :) Mm... any ideas for a plot or anything? I'm mostly reactionary. <.<

You too, EonRising - any thoughts, if you'd be interested too?

Added names... thought it might be helpful. ^^;

What do you mean with reactionary? :O

Magi's quest is quite simple. She seeks the highest ranking mage in the land she's in to warn them of impending doom should they continue to use magic in a thoughtless fashion. Although she's highly gifted, she doesn't use magic herself unless it's absolutely necessary, but the longer she abstains, the sicker she gets, down to hallucinations and fevers.

Because your character is taking care of an infant dragon, she'll take great interest in it assuming it's feral, as although she's part dragon herself, the ferals of the species died out long ago in her world.

I don't know what long term goal you set for your character, but I hope they can intertwine somehow!

That's pretty much the thing. My characters tend to have goals for how to live rather than any sort of quest, so it's easier for me to simply fall in to what others are doing. I still stay true to the character, but I don't start quests and such unless I have to, and my plots/subplots tend to be at random occurrence when an opportunity presents itself, seat-of-my-pants, and highly malleable. They also tend to be brief little things that just happen to tie into the character's history - like when someone gave a young character of mine an item that had belonged to one of her ancestors, circumstances ended up allowing that ancestor to posses the girl's body (which was actually rather traumatic for the poor kid...).
Given the current scenario, I think I'll be using Dmitri :3 if you are unfamiliar with the races of Elder Scrolls, he's essentially a snow leapard anthro.

As for story... I'm kinda with you, Novalynn. My characters rarely have a certain objective and I'm better at having them react that anything else.

I'm not sure I'm entirely comfortable with that. Does your character not have a job, a dream, a goal to accomplish in the (near) future? What does he do every day when there is nobody around to react to?

I would burn out really fast if all I get to do is feed the story but never get a plot prompt to react to myself. It sounds like a one-sided experience. :(

It's not that I can't write on my own or anything. It's mostly me trying to keep out of others' way and avoid stepping on toes - something that, unfortunately, I actually have trouble getting past at this point. (I've typically been surrounded by various people trying to all be the stars of their own little plots at the same time, so I've always kept mostly to support. I'm also more oriented toward character development.)

For that particular character, he mostly takes care of the dragon anymore and stretches out his supplies by foraging, but he does still head into towns to get more, primarily through stealing. His goals are mostly little things like survival and keeping the little dragon happy and safe. I could throw him a bigger goal, though.

It's possible that the dragon, being of the ice variety, is starting to have trouble dealing with with heat, and so he wants to bring it to cooler climates; basically anything that's harmful for the dragon is going to make him try to fix things. He could easily steal just the wrong thing that keeps people hunting him, and he needs to find a way to fully escape them or make them give up. Someone he's robbed in the past might recognize him and make trouble (perhaps he'd need to escape a prison or end up with some form of curse on him, etc); or maybe it's a girl he once charmed. He, like anyone else, could become sick and need to find a cure. And so on.

I know it's not fun to have to run everything entirely by yourself. I once had to run an entire cast around one guy who barely even reacted to anything. That was not a particularly pleasant experience.

If it'd help, I already put his profile up.
Magica (played anonymously)

Oh alright! That makes more sense to me. :) I'm going to have to read the story on his profile in a while, but in the meantime I'd love to set up the roleplay.

How do you prefer to go about that? PM, forums, and who's going to setup the scene?
Zelphyr Topic Starter

I'd say forums. And I could try setting up a scene, unless you or Eon would like to.
Magica (played anonymously)

Oh, we're doing a group RP? I didn't realize. I'd much prefer 1x1 to be honest. If you don't want to juggle multiple RPs at the same time that's fine though, I'll back out since Eon replied first.
Zelphyr Topic Starter

Nah, you simply didn't say anything against it when I mentioned it. ^^ And you were the first to mention anything specific, so no need to back up. I tend to prefer small groups, but I'd be fine with a 1x1.

And juggling RPs doesn't bother me, anyway.
