Julian let out a soft sigh as he gazed down upon the little city in the valley. On a smaller branch above his perch, Frost emitted a little chirruping noise that he swore was laced with sadness. He supposed it was entirely likely that the little ice dragon understood what it meant when he looked at towns and cities like that. He was never really sure how much she understood.
He raised his arm, and Frost dropped down to the worn leather bracer. She nuzzled his palm as he stroked a hand down her spine and left a small kiss on her forehead. Smiling a little, he said softly, "I know, I know... I don't like it, either. I need to get supplies again, though. And you, little missy..."
Julian smirked and tossed his arm slightly, making the little dragon let go and start flapping.
"...you really need to get in the habit of managing your own kills better. I can't always thaw them out for you."
He descended through the branches quickly, looked back to be sure Frost wasn't trailing him, and took off for the small city with his hood up. Time to see who he might charm out of their valuables.

She kept to the shadows and tried to even her ragged breathing. The transition into this world had been anything but smooth and left her drained and exhausted. If it wasn't for the tall staff she carried to lean on, she would not be able to stand upright. She strained her eyes to clear her blurry vision and gazed into the streets.
The Elders didn't know where they sent her and she didn't know what kind of creatures inhabited this place. The last thing she wanted to do was draw unwanted attention and frighten folks with her appearance if it was unusual. With a small gesture of her hand the air around her shimmered briefly and she stumbled out into the open. Eyes that fell on her would simply look past her. For now.
Magi did her best to maneuver past passerbys, but her weariness would run her down fast. If she bumped into anyone, the spell would be broken.

As he roamed the pressed-dirt streets, Julian scanned the buildings and the people, trying to determine the best way to go about things. Before Frost, he had almost always sought out a host to house him while he took what he could from around town before moving on with some of his host's own valuables. Now, he didn't like to leave her alone for too long, and having a host made things difficult. Just the same, staying in town long enough to take care of everything was tricky without a host. Maybe this time he could just get everything done in a single day... even though it seemed like a waste to rush things in a settlement of this size, where going unnoticed for a longer time tended to be easier.
"Ey! Ey, you!"
Julian turned, but was not expecting the man shouting to be looking directly at him with a less than pleased expression. So much for going unnoticed. Still, he stood his ground and feigned confusion as the man approached, finger thrust accusingly forward. It was even harder to keep from dashing off as he realized the man was familiar enough that Julian had surely ripped him off at some point.
"Sorry?" Julian asked once the man was close enough to speak without shouting. "Do I know you, sir?"
"You're the boy that robbed me! I gave you a bed, and you robbed me!"
Clearly, the man wasn't nearly as concerned about keeping quiet and avoiding attention. He was already looking about the area, no doubt for a guard or something.
"I'm afraid you must have me mistaken with someone else, sir," Julian said, trying to calm the man while glancing about for the best escape. "I only just arrived, and I've never-"
"No, you don't! I remember you. Back in Pendleton. I know who you are!" the man shouted, reaching to grab Julian.
Luckily, Julian was much faster. Not so luckily, racing away from a man accusing him of theft wasn't exactly the best way to keep a low profile. He needed to get far enough away, he needed to find a good place to hide -
- and he needed to not crash into whatever it was he'd failed to notice in his way. This was not a good way to start things.
((I figure it could be any unexpected person or thing, if you'd rather he not run into her so soon.))
