"Then maybe you should put on one of your pretty dresses so as not to offend them?" Mike teased as she raised a hand to cup his face like he had done to her before when kissing her. "I've been to this town before. They do have laws against cross-dressing, true, but they haven't any against men who are extra fond of one another. And in the poorer areas the few laws they do have aren't well enforced. Also some of them know me so there shouldn't be too much trouble," she told Ralen. That they knew her as someone who'd threatened to burn a very trashy inn to the ground didn't seem worth mentioning. The important people there didn't know about that or care and the poor people had learned to be nice to Mike. "Since we're resting as it were now ...," Mike teased, "Would my lady lay with me a while?" She knew that she was pushing things a bit, but he had kissed her twice and once without her doing much to encourage him and while he was hesitant, the wizard thought that if she were a little more open about her affections for him he might not need as much encouragement later. "Now," she chuckled in a whisper, "I wonder, is your skin soft all over or just where it shows?"
Ralen chuckled. "You know this town too well, I'm almost afraid to go into it now. But...I'm no stranger here either."
He grinned. "Where would you like to lay?" He eyed the trees and then shook his head; they were far too tall and thick to have any shot of him using his magic on them. And he didn't particularly want to strain a muscle this far from town.
At Mike's whispered question, Ralen's grin turned wry--though he only caught part of it. "That, my good sirrah, is a good question--and what all the ladies keep asking," he answered shrewdly.
He flopped down beneath a tree, taking a moment to find the mossy side where it would cushion him a little more than the roots, and then glanced around for Caleb. "Your poor brother is looking after the horses--and mules all alone."

“Anywhere’s fine,” Mike said as she sat down in the mossy grass close beside Ralen. “Do they really? How many maids have found out the answer to that question?” she asked him. “Are you as popular in these parts as ‘Sir Kay’ over there,” she joked. “He’s fine. A little more responsibility will do him good with all the mischief he’ll be getting into once we hit town,” she said dismissively of her baby brother, “He has armor, a sword, and just enough sense to use them properly.” The wizard laid back in the grass and watched Ralen. “About how much can you lift without your powers?” she asked him, “I imagine it’s more than what you can with it.”
Ralen chuckled at 'Sir Kay'. "He's just a kid, he still deserves to have some fun; how else will he find a wife before he's your age?" Oooh, if only he knew Mike was a woman...!
"No, no, I'm not that popular--yet. As for what I can lift with my powers and without...I can probably haul you around physically by throwing you over my shoulder, but not with my powers. Unfortunately there's a bit of an overlap or...um...thing that happens when I try to forcibly move people. So, before you ask, no I can't make you fly. Unless we find a catapult." He grinned. "Or make one."

"I don't think he's looking for a wife at this point and his father only had a wife so he could pretend Cae was hers and avoid shame. And with the sort of girls Caleb prefers I almost hope he never does marry since I doubt they'd know the first thing about being a wife and would cause him no shortage of pain and trouble," Mike replied. She laid very still and focused. Very very slowly the grass began to rustle and the wizard very very slowly began to rise above the grass. She could only lift herself about four inches off the ground and only hold it for a few seconds. It was easier to do it laying down than standing up though. "I don't need you to make me fly. I'm half way there already," she told the man. Thankfully lifting herself with air wasn't as tiring as parting clouds. "Are you going to go off wandering like Cae when we get to town or do you have more dignity than that?" she asked Ralen. "Are you two ready to go, yet?" Caleb called from the other side of the trees. "If not, I'm going to try to get some hunting in before we have to move on," he said.
Ralen shook his head at Mike. "Well I didn't say it would happen instantaneously, and it'd have to be a pretty, er, special woman anyway." He grinned.
He watched in utter fascination as she levitated off the ground. Even though it was four inches, it was still an impressive feat. "I knew a guy once, he visited my father a couple years back, he could travel by walking on air, much like that. I don't know where he disappeared off to, but...maybe my dad would know."
He snorted at her next comment. "Me go wandering off at the city my dad lives in? No. Too many people know me and recognize me, so I've got actual...tasks...to perform." He sighed dramatically. "Work. It just never ends."
In answer to Caleb's question, he sat up straighter. "Nah, we're getting going here shortly. No time to hunt." Not if the last time was anything to go by.

“I thought we had two little towns to hit and a week or more of traveling before we got to the city?” Mike said. “Or does your father live in the little town we’re going to tomorrow?” she asked. She replayed her plan in her head again. It might be easier and slightly safer to simplify it some. …. Maybe if she threatened him a bit they could work around sharing a room after all? She’d have to think about it more before changing her mind. After all she had been so clear on not wanting to share just a short time ago. “So you’re saying you’ll be off doing important things while we’re at the town or did you mean something else?” she asked. “Okay,” Cae called back, “I’m ready whenever you two are.”
Ralen frowned. "Oh, you meant this town--whether I was going to go wandering or not? Um, I have an errand to run, but other than that, not a whole lot to do. No, the city where my father lives--that's where I absolutely can't just wander around. But between there and here, I'm free to do just about whatever I please."
He slowly climbed to his feet, calling: "We're coming, Caleb."

“I see,” Mike said quietly. A new plan began to form in her mind. She knew a little illusion magic, mix that with a bit of fog and it wasn’t hard to trick a person into thinking they were dreaming when they weren’t. Maybe since she’d likely be up most of the night anyway, this last night camping for a bit … What if Ralen were to have a ‘dream’ with a certain girl in it. If he thought it a dream she wouldn’t have to explain things and in the morning things would go on as they had before. Then when they got to the town maybe her first plan would work better if she still wanted to us it. The wizard grunted at her lack of focus made her drop four inches to the ground. “Ow. We’re coming,” she called to her brother. Mike was mostly silent until they made camp again.
