The otherwise stoic, bold and stern Wolf of Cornaeth and former commander of the legions has a secret he's rather embarrassed of, Marcus has a thing for elves, and this too is an understatement. The man really is obsessed with elves to the point of it being a debilitating weakness. Upon vacations and holidays he likes to sneak off to the elf villages where he squanders most the gold earned from his mercenary work but otherwise likes to take strolls in the country, eat the fresh produce of the elven lands, hunt and fish as well as just take it easy for a while and totally not merriment, debauchery and fornication, even the toughest of men have their weaknesses I suppose, he goes by the alias Lukaeon when there and is a secret patron of elven charities and temples but also indulges in vices all the same, he has friends in high places there that tolerate his presence since you have to have a charter to enter elven lands, since things are tense due to recent unfortunate events that may or may not have implicated certain genocidal tendencies within the elven nobility thankfully Marc has a lot of elven higher-ups vouching for him because he is a valuable ally and totally not because the pointy ears need a lackey to go around collecting all those lost elven artifacts from their less amicable violet cousins becuase they are too preoccupied with matters at home to do so.

This short story better illustrates the issue,

With yet another important campaign concluded at the behest of the Aelvari dominion, Spymistress Istiana was assured that the pirate activity within the bay of Rhoenar would cease and the elves and humans could trade freely and without fear once more, it was now time to head back to their base across the straits of Andavar. Istiana oversaw all the necessary preparations, receiving the elven diplomat as she said " Your grace, we thank you for your trust in our party in accomplishing this endeavor and we hope that this will cement the alliance between humans and elv-" an abrupt pause came as Istiana issued a scornful look at Marcus, kicking at his shin from under the table - Stop staring at her ears Marcus.. she thought to herself, the fool hadn't understood the intricacies of elven culture as much as Istiana did, the last thing she needed was that scoundrel screwing this up for her, " Ehrm, my pardon your grace ahem, Quartermaster Scipio, would you please escort Archon Leocadus to the ship, he's feeling unwell " Scipio nodded with sigh, grasping at Marcus's shoulder " Come along my lord, my lord ? hrr " he added having to tug and pull at the man to have him leave the table " My... hr.. Lord.. the.. ship... awaits " at last Marcus was dislodged only at the threat of Istiana bladed heel driving dangerously close to his imperial silversacks, Scipio promptly restrained Marcus marching him out, " My apologies your grace, it seems the burdens of the campaign still linger upon Archon Leocadus, let us conclude business "

Much later upon the ship, Istiana would be found taking the reports for all the supplies, " Very well done Scipio, 6 ampulae of olive oil, 2 barrels of olives, 5 barrels of ship-bread, 20 ampulae of wine, 2 barrels of dried fruit, 10 barrels of dried meat and fish and 20 barrels of crushed barley and 17 crates of Maripon Fruit... 17 CRATES OF MARIPON FRUIT !? By the gods Scipio we won't be able to pay the soldiers wages off " Istiana stated issuing heavy breaths and rubbing her temples

" M-my Lady, Ser Marcus... I told him not to... " Istiana arose, convulsing with anger and grinding her teeth, clenching her fists as she cursed in high imperial " I knew it ! " , " My Lady, he was charmed by an elven girl who was selling it... he is at the... " Istiana raised her hand to silence Scipio " I know where he is Scipio... fetch me my gelding knife... "

TL;DR - Marcus has a thing for elves.
