Pretty simple, how about a child throws themselves at a dangerous weapon to save another child?
Basically, the event and aftermath of Tails throwing himself to take a lethal blow for Sonic with no hesitation. Don't worry, no body dies. I'm not that cruel.

On very, very, rare occasions there may be unexplained, POSSIBLY supernatural events. Minor "environmental" magic. Perhaps implies the existence of a deity or supernatural entity. Or perhaps it's just tricks?
Near future, perhaps cloning and genetic manipulation
More combat than not. The setting may be at war, and the characters will likely get involved whether or not they seek it out.
No romance at all will be included in this plot, period.
