Nessa (played anonymously)

The Lapras looked between the two versions of Golurk and inched back a bit. Nessa held her breath for several seconds, trying to figure out what to do now. She felt her best chance was to hit them with Surf repeatedly, but Lara only had so much energy to keep pulling off a move that big.

"Lara, sing them a lullaby, will you?" Nessa lifted her chin defiantly. It had a little over 50/50 chance of working, but when it did it was one hell of a move to fight against.

"Like hell you will! Mech, Shadow Punch!"

The real Golurk unleashed a reverberating cry and pulled one of its arms back. Its large, very human-like hand curled into a fist, and in one sweeping move threw the appendage forward at Lara. The distance was too long for the actual hand to connect.

Hardly a problem for a ghost though. Mechanus' shadow leaped up as if brought to life and charged forward to punch Lara squarely in the jaw.

Lara started to sing, but the Golurk was fast. She cried out and flew back, crashing into the road with a loud thud. Nessa winced and clutched her hands together.

"Lara, get up! You have to get up and knock them down with Surf!" The Lapras struggled, getting back onto her flippers with difficulty. Her health was down by approximately 75% from this. She began to glow again, letting out a challenging cry.

Mechanus' substitute stepped in front of its originator, shielding the Golurk from the brunt of Surf's devastating damage. Unfortunately for the copy, it took too much on and faded away, leaving the actual ghost type fully exposed once again.

"Alright, alright... got to say I was impressed by that," Johann drawled with a grin. "Mech, Heavy Slam."

So the first time hadn't gone so smoothly, but that didn't bother Mechanus in the least (if anything bothered the giant at all). It charged Lara with a heavy but lumbering gait, bringing its reinforced fists together and up to swing them down in a heavy blow to the ice and water type.

Nessa (played anonymously)

Nessa puffed her chest proudly. "That's right!"

Then she completely deflated.

Lara took the attack full force. She couldn't even cry out, the air slammed from her lungs before she passed out. Nessa screamed in shock. "LARA, NO!" She gritted her teeth and glared at the now undoubtedly smug Johann. "How could you?!"

Well Nessa, you're in a Pokemon battle. These things happen.

The Lapras returned to her pokeball and Nessa took out a very pink and girly loveball. She enlarged it, gave it a small kiss and sent out her last mon for this fight. "Darling, I believe in you."

The Dragonair took shape and settled onto the battlefield with an incredible calm and grace. Everything about her was just pretty and her movements truly elegant. She was the crown jewel of Nessa's team.

Her trainer breathed deeply and calmed herself. She did not plan on being defeated. "Darling, hyper beam." Nessa intended to end it right there.

Oh he was smug alright. Her opponent folded his arms across his broad chest and smirked devilishly. The expression began to grow into a vicious grin as Nessa unleashed her next Pokemon and issued a prompt command.

"Mechanus, stay," the biker calmly ordered as he stepped a few feet to his left, and the Golurk did just that. The Hyper Beam hit dead on, enveloping the golem in all its glory to continue on through the space Johann had been standing in moments before. The biker raised an arm to shield his face (and more importantly his eyes) from the blinding attack.

...but the Golem remained standing. The only evidence of the beam having struck was a very faint distortion of heat coming off its clay body.

"C'mon, Sparkles," the biker mockingly drawled again. He lowered his arm, squinting uncomfortably at her in temporary blindness from the hyper beam's proximity. "Shadow Punch? Ghost type move? Surely that would've clued you in, yeah? You can fire off all the hyper beams in the world, but they won't do jack shit to a ghost."
Nessa (played anonymously)

Nessa's initial reaction at the dead on hit was celebration! But as the light dimmed and both she and Dragonair looked on, the whole thing was very... anti climatic. Alarmed, Nessa was also confused until Johann revealed the little secret.

"That thing is a GHOST TYPE?" A ghost type move could be taught to non-ghost types as well, in some cases. She had no idea shadow punch was exclusive to them!

"Darling, stay on your toes!" Damnit! She wasted a perfectly good attack. Silver lining: she learned something new and was not likely to make the same mistake again. Dragonair needed time to recharge, and Nessa could only rely on the pokemon's grace and agility to curb the impact of the retaliation.

"Yup, sure is," the biker answered with greater smugness. "Mech, Shadow Punch again!"

The Golurk did the same as before, curling its fists tightly to throw a punch via its shadow. With Darling having to recharge and Mechanus being a bit on the slower side, there was little time to lose for this opportunistic window!

"Darling, evade it!" Dragonair did her best to escape the attack. She managed to slip away just enough to let the blow land on her back half, stunning her momentarily as she cried out. She took a fair amount of damage, but not enough to knock her out or incapacitate her.

Nessa was on the verge of tears. It hadn't liked water. That was her chance to redeem the situation in her favor again. "It's weak against water. Use Surf!"

Dragonair crooned and elegantly moved into position. The horn on her forehead glowed intense blue as she called forth the rush of water.

"Dodge it, Mech!"

The Golurk lurched to the left to avoid the oncoming water, but its slowness showed--it got clipped in one of the legs and stumbled a little. Even if it wasn't organic, the wear of the battle was starting to show.

"Don't show that weakness! Just a little bit left to go! Heavy Slam!"

The giant golem rumbled and charged forward to strike Darling heavily in the side.

(OoC: Mathematics note: dragonair on average is 36.4 lbs. (16.5 kg). Golurk is 727.5 lbs. (330.0 kg); 1/5 of 727.5 lbs. = 145.5 lbs. Mech is technically heavier than average because it's larger, but the math is still the same, hence the higher base power below. For reference, if you want to see how the move calculates damage. I hope I didn't get too technical just then!)

Nessa (played anonymously)

The Dragonair called out in frustration when her move didn't hit home as hard as she wanted. However, both Nessa and her mon got renewed energy from watching their enemy crumble, even if it was slowly.

When the opponent attacked, Nessa clenched her fists. "Darling, evade to the left!"

The Dragonair dove for the ground, off to the left, and narrowly avoided most of the attack. She was still slammed into the ground with a cry, but recovered quickly.

"Use Surf until he's down!"

There really was no other move Nessa could use against the Golurk, and put all her money on Darling's stamina to keep up with the assault.

Johann looked just as frustrated as Darling at the near-miss of Mech's last attack. He moved his hand away from his eyes to pinch the bridge of his nose, barking a new set of orders in a tone to match.

"Dodge right and take flight, Mech!"

The golurk rumbled in acknowledgement and did something interesting: it pivoted on its right leg, swinging its massive bulk out of the way and only getting brushed by the initial surf attack. Then, just as it was about to plant both feet back on the ground, its massive hands retracted and disappeared into its arms, followed by its legs disappearing beneath the 'skirt' that made up its waist. There was a rumbling from very deep within its body, something different from the reverberations of its voice.

And then there was a violent eruption beneath the golem, kicking up plumes of dirt! Mechanus burst forth from the cloud, trailed by superheated blue and white fire that was escaping from its wrists and lower torso. It shot up into the sky, higher and higher, out of firing range of most moves...
No roll, since Fly is a 2-turn attack.
Nessa (played anonymously)

Nessa stomped her feet defiantly and shrieked out loud when Surf pretty much entirely missed. "THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!!" Either they were having the absolute worst of luck or they were equally matched. Or both!

Dragonair's and her own eyes followed the Golurk as it took off, shielding their faces from the dust. Nessa hissed. "Of course it can fly! What CAN'T it do?" Darling looked back to her trainer. "Keep your eyes peeled on the sky, Darling! Be ready!"

"Make me a sandwich!" Johann swiftly quipped in a mocking tone. Had a point though; those clay hands were too ginormous for human-friendly utensils.

The Golurk soared about sixty meters into the air before it began to adjust its arms to start curving back down for a descent. It was a large curve at that, readjusted every few seconds as Mechanus came down to zoom past over Nessa's head and slam right into Darling.

Darling was entirely focused on the sky, trying to predict where Golurk would come down from and where it was going to land. She saw him coming and tried to evade, but it adjusted its course just enough for a decent hit.

Nessa winced and resisted the urge to run over to her Darling and hold her. "Darling! Please get up!"

The Dragonair struggled, but managed to lift itself upright enough to pant and croon at her trainer reassuringly.

"Okay sweetie, this may be our final shot..." Nessa wasn't so sure they'd make it out of this one in one piece. "Use Surf."

Mechanus slammed into the ground after and rolled a couple of times until it came to a stop near its trainer. Johann was already cursing the fact that Fly hadn't knocked out Darling, and his swearing grew more intense at the sight of yet another surf.

There was no hope for poor Mech now, even as it tried to pick itself back up. The water move was a dead on hit, and the glow of the Golurk's internal energies blinked out as it fainted away.

"Ach...alright, alright, nice try, Mech," the biker sighed in disappointment. He returned the golem to its timer ball and pulled out one last ball. What he sent out next was just as peculiar (but fitting) as the first two; a long dark red, steel sword, decorated by a violet gem that looked very much like an eye; it had a trailing cloth tassel of red and lavender that looked waaaay too much like a hand too. It pulled itself from its intricate scabbard using the 'hand' and pointed itself at Darling & Nessa.
Player's note: Honedge has No Guard for an ability. All moves, used by it or by the foe, are 100% accurate, making all rolls Power rolls only.
