Laralute looks around. Being an elf, she has a natural hatred of orcs as they are enemies of the forest. She hopes to find a clue her fellow adventurers might overlook. While LL is looking around with Slappy, Harros goes on to explain that his seal of office is made up of 3 separate rings to Olaf and Teddy. This prevents counterfeiting. Unfortunately, he had all three on his person when he was robbed. He offers the party 120 gold for each ring they can recover.
“Of course we will recover your rings,” Olaf promises. “Right, Teddy?” The ogre makes the stuffed bear nod his head.
Party XP: 7/10
OOC: The adventure gives a dwarf or elf the chance to make a roll for a clue on a roll of 6 in this scene. Throughout the adventure, there will be opportunities to collect clues. The nature of the clue is not defined, but it is assumed that it gives the party some kind of lead as to how to chase down one of the orcs who has one of the three rings. Once 3 clues are collected, there is a special entry in the book that gives an encounter to one of the orcs who has taken one of the 3 rings from Harros. The adventure will be completed when all 3 orcs are tracked down and defeated and each of the 3 rings is returned.
Roll 1d6. A 6 is a success.

Drusilla performs last rites over the bodies and turns to Harros. “We should get them to the village and bury them at once,” she says.
“No time! I will wait here with the bodies and for your return. If someone from the nearest village happens along, I’ll ask them to fetch help. Please make haste! If you run into anyone along the way, please send them to me,” Harros pleads.
Dru nods. “Let’s get moving,” She tells the others.
OOC: The adventure now requires that two 6 sided dice be rolled to determine which encounter occurs next. Two separate rolls of 1d6 will be used to generate this number. The entry will post be posted on Olaf’s next turn.

The party members set off down the road leaving the nobleman to stand watch over his slain guards.
“Hey, Teddy! Look at that bird,” The ogre holds up his stuffed bear as they enter the forest and points him toward a high tree branch. He points with his free hand. As the party travels through the underbrush, a beautiful bird with golden and purple plumage flies off.
Each party member can make a roll to identify it. Laralute and Olaf receive +1 for being an elf and barbarian. If anyone rolls higher than a 3, the bird is recognized as a legendary forest phoenix.
OOC: Making identify roll for each party member.

"Look! A forest phoenix," The ogre says recognizing it. "Isn't it beautiful Teddy?" The bird flies past the group giving them a moment to look at it.
Slappy realized the rareness of the bird. He had heard of the forest phoenix in bed time stories and legends. Until now, he was unsure if they were real. One legend said the birds feathers were quite valuable and if shot, the bird would rise again from the ashes leaving its feathers behind.

Laralute also recognized the forest phoenix for what it was. The majestic bird had a special meaning to the elves and its feathers were an important spell component for many potions and spells. While she hated to kill it, legend said it could not truly die and would rise again even more grand and beautiful.

After losing some time to studying the tracks, the group begin to follow a set that look to be orc tracks. A short while later, they encounter a fungas ogre known as a Matanger. This type of monster is very rare in the Kardolk forest.
The Matanagar is a 6 level boss with 6 life, 2 attacks and has a morale +1. Any non-magical damage, the Matanagar ignores the damage on a roll of 6. Olaf can use his one-time ability here, the monster does not generate XP as it is not a minion. The fight begins next round on Olaf's turn.

The matanagar moves forward menacingly. Olaf raises his ax. "I'm about to ax you some questions Mr. Moss man," Olaf says. "Cover your eyes, Teddy! This might get messy!" Olaf charges forth. The fungal ogre is as big as Olaf, so they are evenly matched.
Olaf's attack roll is 1d6+3. He must get a total of 6 or higher to wound the monster.
Monster health: 6/6
OOC: The monster gets a save if hit on non-magical damage. On a roll of 6, it ignores the wound. Its morale is +1 (a roll of 3 or less is a fail).

Slappy feels more confident with his new improved magic dagger, Stewart which is +2. Daggers being hand weapons have a -1 to reflect their size, so the bonus is only +1 but would do 2 wounds if it strikes. A 6 is needed to hit. Since the dagger is magic, the monster does not get a save. Slappy takes a deep breath and charges forward hoping to hit.

Perhaps Slappy got a little too over confident. He faceplants! How embarrassing! Laralute decides to use a lightning bolt. If she hits, it will inflict 2 wounds due to the fact that this monster is considered a boss. That will bring it to half its life if successful and the monster then makes a moral check at +1 (4 or less it stays to fight). However, it will lose a level regardless (from 6 to 5)
LL's lightning bolt roll is her level (3) plus her attack roll. A 6 or higher is needed to succeed.
