I've been trying (struggling) to learn CSS the last couple of days and it's just a struggle to figure it all out and wrap my head around it. Some people understand it better, I'm just.. not one of those folks.

I've noticed that some of the stuff for rpr is a little different than other css stuff as when I try to fix it and enter it into the custom template creation it just does NOT come out right.
So what I'm posting is to see if anyone has a custom template layout code I can examine and work with to try and help me (and any others it might help) learn CSS a little bit better. Any reply/activity is positive activity and any help is appreciated!

You can take the CSS from any existing template and modify that, but there are a few specific tweaks to make before it works right.

Perhaps you can show us what you have that's not working? If you're making mistakes, it will be really helpful to your learning process to know what you're doing wrong and how to fix it!

I'd be more elaborate, but I'm not at home and on my tablet so it's a bit cumbersome to go more in depth, sorry! I'll be able to be more specific once I'm home again tomorrow, if nobody else has been able to help you out in the meantime. :)

Yes, what specifically are you finding is different? :) The RPR runs on the same CSS the rest of the web does. :)

I'm not condoning copying CSS. I in no way support copying and pasting other people's work. However-

Don't copy, but LOOKING at other's CSS is one of the best ways of learning how it's done!
Eh, copying CSS isn't such a big issue as copying most works (though copying too much counts as copying the design).

It does get easier as you go, though, and there's info all over the internet. A few places you might check out are W3Schools.com, Codecademy, and CSS-Tricks. They might give you a better understanding of what you're doing.

Also, you can open up developer tools when looking at the page, and interact directly with the CSS (though it resets as soon as you refresh or change pages). How you open it varies according to the browser you're using.

I never condone copying custom templates, but all public official RPR templates are totally free to be modified and changed by epic members! :)

I actually think that working from and editing existing code is the best way to learn how everything ticks in CSS. Having something that you can edit the values from its much easier to understand because you can see what you're changing. If someone has never worked with it before, the learning curve is a lot less steep this way.

Copying an official template also has the benefit of letting you learn from efficient and clean code, as everything is coded or checked by Kim who loves optimized clean CSS. I see a lot of people who make sites/custom templates with really bad coding that just barely works just because everything is forced to work, which has the potential of screwing up in other browsers or just messes up along the way if one thing changes. That's often the result from fiddling around and not working from a proper base.

It's super important to never copy a custom design, but CSS is made unique through the combination of values. The code is (largely) the same for each template as you're working with a set framework. :)

The newer templates are especially on the cleaner side.

Not only is it okay for epic members to copy code from official templates to tweak their profiles, there are a few epic members who snagged official templates 99.9%, because they liked the template but wanted to change the link color (or some other equally minor detail). :)

Thank you all for the feedback!

To address the copying concern, I wasn't looking to do that but studying the template CSS is going to be insanely helpful. I'm mostly struggling with background and the box layouts but being able to examine and learn from the pre-existing templates is going to be insanely helpful!

Thank you all again and I hope to put up some custom CSS for others in the near future.

After being able to study the RPR template CSS, I have managed to come up with a few templates free for use by Epic members! :)

They can be found under the titles
