Peter Armiger (played anonymously)

Horns blared as the midnight traffic came to a stand still. The reason was a five car crash. Almost everyone survived, thankfully. Taylor Armiger, however, was not so lucky. A seat belt would have prevented him from being hurled out of the window at fifty miles an hour, but he was not wearing one. The last thing the teenage boy remembered was a scream, and a crash, then a flicker of pain. Then things were black.

It was a while before anything came to Taylor, but slowly he heard the sound of flames flickering softly. He woke up, painless, and looked about after picking himself up into a sitting position. Where he was confused him. He was in a circular room with no doors or windows. It looked as if it was from a castle straight out of one of his video games. Both the walls and floor were made out of stone.

The confused, but curious, Taylor stood up and inspected the room even more, slowly spinning as he took it all in. The walls of the room were not bare. Six pedestals lined the room, each with a colored tapestry above it.

On the first pedestal rested an intricately carved bow. Above it hung a green tapestry with a leaf-like symbol in its middle. When Taylor walked up to the pedestal he could read what it said. Choose your class: Ranger. Bowmen of the woods, the Ranger is close with nature and often calls on it to help him in battle. The ranger starts with a beginner's short bow and bronze short sword.

On the second pedestal rested another bow, this one was more plain but its tips were metal. The tapestry above it was black, an arrow symbol in its middle. The pedestal read: Choose your class: Archer. The imperial bowmen, an archer relies on their honed skills and point precision shots to take down opponents from afar. An archer starts with a beginner's longbow and and a bronze dagger.

On the third pedestal rested a shield. The tapestry above it was blue with another shield in its middle. The pedestal read: Choose your class: Guardian. The knight that defends, a guardian is the ultimate protector. A guardian starts with a bronze shield and a bronze sword.

On the fourth pedestal rested a battle axe. The tapestry above it was red with a flexing, muscular arm in its middle. The pedestal read: Choose your class: Berserker. A fierce warrior, the berserker deals deadly damage to a single or multiple targets. What they lack in defense they make up for in attack. A berserker starts with a bronze battle axe.

On the fifth pedestal rested a spell book. The tapestry above it was purple with a fire-like symbol in its middle. The pedestal read: Choose your class: Mage. Holding the ability of magic, a mage can follow one of many schools of magic as well as enchant armor, weapons, and other items. A mage starts with a weak lightening spell.

On the sixth pedestal rested a long, curved dagger. The tapestry above it was grey with a coin purse in its middle. The pedestal read: Choose your class: Rogue. A resourceful thief and assassin, a rogue uses stealth to gain the upper hand and make deadly attacks. A rogue starts with two bronze daggers.

Taylor was slightly overwhelmed and had no idea what exactly was going on. Was he supposed to choose? He had always liked guardians, but he had also always liked using a bow. He thought for a moment, then walked to the pedestal under the green tapestry, and picked up the bow. The world flashed and suddenly he was no longer in the torch lit room. Now he was in a sort of fort in a field surrounded by cliffs.

"Welcome to Asgun," said an armored man behind Taylor.

The teenager wheeled around. "What? Where is this? What happened to the car?"

"Simple," said the man, "you died. Now you are in the world of Asgun. You have chosen your class, a Ranger, and have entered the world as such."

Taylor had not even noticed the short sword and short bow he now had on him until now. "But... but how is that possible? Did, did you die too?"

"No no no, said the man. I am an N-P-C. A non..."

"A non character player," Taylor finished. Wow, this was amazing, but he still had not answered his first question, maybe time would reveal it.

"Correct. I am Jeffry, the helping guard of Tutorial Fort. This is where new comers become accustomed to this new world and learn fighting as well as crafting skills. I must now talk to the next newcomer, but wish you all the best! You may wish to walk a round to get a feel of the land before you go to the next tutorial instructor. Farewell!" With that the guard turned to talk to the next man coming in. Taylor himself took a few steps back and sat down to process this new information.
Chris (played by Chris_Pike)

There was an Explosion at a School, It was an accident but that's not what the Police believed, They had SWAT There, and The Bomb Defuse squad. It happed in the Science lab while it was recess. So When Chris made a Mistake with a potion he was working on there was an explosion, This should not have killed him. But the glass from the beakers had flew into his throat. He remembered the Panic, The Regret, The Sorrow the blood running down his throat. Until he passed out due to lack of air, And soon died.

Chris woke up with a jolt and got to his feet and started looking around his new area. He was slightly panicked to be in a new location "...Well I guess im dead... This sure as hell doesn't look like a hospital..." he said looking around, Then Saw the tapestries with the sign saying "Choose", He took one look at the mage tapestry and touched it "I want this one!" He proclaimed
Lyra Calendil (played by Terel)

Lyra woke up in a bare room of stone, pedestals arrange around the circular room with tapestries displaying crests of some kind. Banners? Standards? Most curious. She stood up and walked over to each pedestal in turn, examining them curiously.

This seemed similar to the video games she liked to play. She shook her head as she passed the Guardian, Beserker and Rogue classes. She didn't like to get up front and personal if she had to fight. She wasn't built for it, and she didn't quite have the temperament. She hesitated between the Mage, Archer and Ranger classes. Much more long-range, but which to pick? She liked the bow, and the idea of being close to nature appealed to her but... the Mage class had an arcane lure.

She'd always been fascinated by the idea of magic, and the chance to be able to use actual magic... it wasn't a chance she was willing to give up! Besides magic was much more versatile than archery.

Just before she picked up the spell book, however, a thought struck her. Why was she here? How had she got here? Last she remembered she had been performing her first song in the 'Aurora' style she had been developing, trying to use lights and things to show the audience what it was like to perceive the colours of her music. It had gone well, she thought, there'd been a lot of clapping and cheering. What had happened after?

Oh... that man... the one with the name with the ugly sludge-coloured name. He'd been drunk. Come up to her and... what? A flash of pain and fear and then... she was here. How strange. Had he drugged her? Was this some kind of hallucination?

Lyra shook her head. It couldn't be, her mind wouldn't have dredged this up. This was something different. Oh well, there was no way out of this room until she picked a class, of that she was certain, so she grabbed the spell book. A flash dazzled her momentarily and then the room was gone and she was in a medieval-style fort.

"Welcome to Asgun," came a male voice from behind her.

"Eep!" Lyra squeaked as she whirled around and stumbled back, raising her hand to ward off whoever it was, could she shoot lightning out her hand, or did she need a staff or wand for that? Well no, of course not, such things were tools and aids for channelling magic but... oh wait the guy in armour was talking to her and he wasn't trying to hit her so she should listen.

"You've died and come to this world and because you have chosen the mage class, you are now a mage."

Lyra blinked, "Died? Me? Ulp... w-wait, how is that possible? Who are you?"

"I am Jeffry, a NPC helping guard here at Tutorial Fort, I welcome newcomers to Asgun, but that's it. You might want to walk around and get used to this land before moving on to the next instructor," he said with a smile.

"I... see... I'm in a game. Weird. Kind of an afterlife for gamers really, a paradise for them. But how is this possible? You'd have to copy a person's memory, thought patterns... you'd need a complete copy of their mind-state and I have no idea how you could have copied my mental patterns without me knowing," Lyra frowned, "Do we even have the technology available to do that?"

The NPC shrugged, "I have no idea, I'm just the welcomer. Speaking of which, the next new arrival is coming, so I need to go. Farewell!"

That left Lyra standing there alone, a little confused, "So... I'm dead?" She poked her arm, "I don't feel dead," then realisation struck, "Oh no! Now I'll never get Aurora off the ground and... and that jerk who killed me! Oh when I get my hands on him... no... can't do that. I'm in some... virtual reality? Hey... wonder if the admin guys will alert the police if one of their arrivals is a murder victim? I hope so... hope they lock that jerk up. Bet they have a legal duty to tell the police! Yeah!" She smiled, glad that she'd sorted that out, and started walking in a random direction to get a feel for this... Asgun place.

"Well... I'm dead and I'm in a game and I have magic. Kind of a... mixed bag there. Guess I've got to make the most of this, level up, get famous, do... quests? Um... oh! I could use illusion magic! I could use them for my art and my music, even better than lasers and lights and holograms and whatever! I can show people my colours directly from my head! Cool!"

Humming happily, composing a new song in her head, Lyra went to search for her next tutorial instructor.

((^^I can't tell ya how much I loved that post, Terel^^))

Two others came into the world after Taylor, who watched them in turn speak to the same guard who had introduced him to this land. A female passed, someone who seemed more lighthearted than he, and he waved a hand at her to get her attention. "Hey!" he called as he climbed quickly to his feet. "You're new too, right?" He was a little nervous, and had always been a little socially awkward. That is one of the reasons he loved games so much, he was a better people person when he was using an avatar.

"If you are then maybe we can team up. I have no idea what exactly this world is, and I don't know if you do too, but I figured it could be a good thing to team up. Right?," he continued, starting to rant without giving the poor women much time to respond. Unless stopped he would continue his rant for a little longer.
Lyra Calendil (played by Terel)

Lyra blinked and looked a little surprised when she was approached by Taylor. She'd been absorbed in her composing of her song, at least on one level. Composing songs helped her to calm down and think, and on another level she'd been trying to work through her new situation.

The guy seemed pretty nervous as he rambled on, but despite the ranting she got the gist of what he was asking and she raised her hand to forestall the words spilling out of his mouth, "I'd love to work with you, there's strength in numbers, right? I don't know much more than you do about this place but when it comes to figuring this out, two sets of eyes and two heads will be better than just the one," she flashed him a wide smile and held out her hand, "It's nice to meet, my name is Lyra and apparently I'm a Mage now," she hesitated a moment and then smiled again, "So what's your name?" She asked with a tilt of her head.

(Glad you liked it, since this is my first RP using Lyra I wanted to make sure the first post with her really got her character across)

((Not sure if Chris is joining back in. How old is she btw?))

"I'm Taylor and I'm a ranger," he answered proudly, offering his hand to shake. "So, uh, have you any idea what we do here?" Spotting more npc-looking characters down the way, he spoke again, "do we just talk to all the npc's and listen to what they have to say? I played Ever Quest 2 before and the tutorial island just had you walk around, learn to play, and do some mini-quests. I once played Runescape and I think it was like that too." Eventually Taylor ended his rambling, an eager aura falling over him.

In reality, the tutorial island only taught new coming 'players' how to adjust and play as their new characters, if they decided to later use an avatar. No real threats were on this island, and challenges would only come in the beginners area in the real world.
Lyra Calendil (played by Terel)

Lyra shook his hand firmly, a happy smile on her face, "Taylor? Oooh... you have a lovely name. It's a really vibrant green. Hm... not sure what that shade's called but it's really nice," Lyra then frowned thoughtfully, "I have no idea how this place works. I wasn't even aware people in the real world had the technology to even do this... I mean... look at it!" She gestured at... everything with a rather vague sweep of her arm, "I guess the only way we're going to find out is to ask, right? So let's head over to one of the NPC instructors and bug him with questions!"

Before she went rushing off she grabbed his hand so she could pull him along with her. No sense in losing him as soon as they met after all, and in her experience people often failed to keep up with her, "I want to learn how to shoot lightning out my hands and make illusions. I hope the starting area after this little tutorial fort has a library, a nice big one with scrolls and arcane lore. I'm not planning on learning anything too... um... offensive. It might work out good though, I set up illusions to confuse and distract, you shoot people with your pointy sticks," she said with a teasing tone, gesturing at his arrows.

Lyra soon dragged them over to one of the tutorial instructors, "Hello!" she sang out happily, "Mind answering a huuuuge load of questions?"

(She'd be around 19/20-ish I think, I've been thinking about what her age would be with her as a human, in her original form she's 327, which'd be... mid to late 20s for her people I think. But I think I'll make her a bit younger here)

((Sounds good! Sorry for my absence. I plan on being a lot more active and using my computer so I can give better responses!))

Lyra was correct in her assumption. Even as he listened Taylor found it hard to keep pace in the conversation. "I- uh," he responded to the arrow comment. "They are arrows," he eventual said quietly. It would take a bit for Taylor to get used to, not the game aspect, but the people aspect.

The NPc Lyra spoke to turned to her with a smile. "Hail to thee! I am Farlic, combat guide. How can I be off assistance?"
Lyra Calendil (played by Terel)

Lyra beamed at the NPC, "Wonderful! Well since you're in charge of combat, mind giving us a run-down of how it works? I mean, is the system here more towards realism, or more towards the whole gamer thing? If we shoot a creature a bunch of times with arrows will it just drop over dead when it loses health points, or can we just lop its head off and be done with it?"

She blinked, "Oh! and magic. Know much about that? I think I have a lightning thingie, but I don't know how magic works here. I bet I could make a very pretty light-show with it for my art... oh and... kill stuff too... I guess," she frowned a little, "Are there loads of ugly things that try to eat you around here? I think it'd be kinda annoying having to wade through a goblin horde whenever you're going between villages. I bet it'd play havoc with the economy too."

She finally stopped for breath, giving the poor NPC a chance to reply, "Um... oh! Taylor, you want to ask anything?" She asked him, not really noticing she hadn't let go of him yet. but then she was going full blast at the minute so little things like breathing and letting go of hands got left by the wayside.

Taylor shook his head left and right. "None." The NPC looked from one to the next before speaking.

"Magic uses mana. You will feel mana as almost a sixth sense, letting you know how much magic you can use before you run out and have to replenish. While mana does replenish itself over time, you may use potions to either speed up your mana regeneration, or refill some of it instantly. This potion also works for health. Using magic is as easy aiming and willing it to happen. The more you fight and practice, the better you will be with any skill.

"There are quite a few 'mobs' to fight in this realm. The concentration, however, depends on where you are. Some places have rather few mobs, which are usually towns, cities, and other safe havens. Other places may have hoards of mobs, like the undead in the catacombs.

"Mobs may attack NPC caravans as part of a scenario, but all NPCs follow a strict routine. The economy for this realm is completely player based. Merchants to not have to create items to sell them. This game-like-occurrence happens in many things, including housing, instances, banking, brokers, revivals, and much more. Is there anything else I can help you with? If not, you can follow the path to the training sections."
Lyra Calendil (played by Terel)

Lyra shook her head, a large smiled on her face, "No, I think I'm good. Hm... mana as a sixth sense? I'm gonna have to try that out," she finally let go of Taylor's hand, "Come on archer guy, lets see how good you are with shooting pointy things at people. I mean, if you can't even hit a target with your arrows then we'll be in trouble, right?"

She started walking off in the direction of the training area, a slightly distant look on her face, "Hm... no what would mana feel like?" She stopped suddenly, her eyes widening and then a big grin on her face, "Oh! Therrree it is! Heh... lemme just..." a spark flickered to life on her hand, but it faded away quickly. Lyra pouted, "Aww... well that was silly. It felt kinda tingly though, guess I need to work on it. Ah well, I guess I can give the bad guys little static shocks for now."

"It's Taylor," called the archer as he followed after her. He held out his bow and examined it as he walked, testing its draw back. Surprisingly he felt no pain from the string, and the bow was unusually easy to pull back. Taylor once went bow shooting when he was living. His fingers and his forearms ended up in a great deal of pain.

He almost ran into Lyra when she stopped, catching himself half a step away from collision. Taylor backed up and studied her work. "Maybe it'll get better when you practice on something?" He offered up, but really wasn't sure. He had no idea how this all would work. He just hoped that his skill with a bow would not be based on his own skill, but instead be some what modified by whatever mechanics ran this world he was now in. Whatever it was, he couldn't wait to find out. Taylor continued on to the combat training area.
Lyra Calendil (played by Terel)

Lyra turned to the archer with a grin, "I know your name, silly, I was just teasing you! You'll have to get used to it if we're gonna be travelling around together!" She shook her head and frowned as she looked down at her hand, "Mhm, yeah. Guess so. I didn't think I'd fire a lightning-blast first time. Still, I can't wait to get out of this tutorial place and find somewhere I can start learning some spells. I really would like to learn some illusionary magic. I've always preferred subtlety to blowing stuff up."

She followed Taylor until they reached the combat instructor NPC and looked around the area curiously, "So... you the guy who's gonna teach us how the fighting works 'round here?" She asked the NPC with the a curious tilt of her head.
Peter Armiger (played anonymously) Topic Starter

The NPC nodded. "My name is Jirvan. To my left are three battle ready NPCs. They are non-agressive but will retaliate. The one closest to me is the weakest, the middle is average strength, and the one on the end is rather strong for a starter level. Each one of them, like you, is a beginner level. You may battle them at any time. Do you have any questions?"

This time Taylor chirped up. "So do they actually... you know... die, when we kill them?"

"Of course not," he responded. "Nothing actually dies in this realm. You will notice that most monsters have a respawn time. These NPCs here will simply become non-aggressive and return to their positions. Anything else?"

Taylor shook his head and backed up to let Lyra ask anything if she needed to. Meanwhile he flexed his bow and got ready to shoot the weakest one.
Lyra Calendil (played by Terel)

Lyra tilted her head as she examined the three NPCs, "Huh... okay, so I have that lightning spell... let's see how this works!"

She stepped away from Jirvan and concentrated on the medium strength NPC, she held her hands out wide and felt for the spark of magic she knew she possessed. The magic leapt eagerly to her service and she shaped it with the only spell she knew, forming the image of a lance of lightning in her mind and then pushing her hands outwards. Blue sparks lit on her fingers, but nothing happened. Lyra pouted, "Huh? Why didn't that- woah!" Lightning suddenly blasted from her hands and tore a deep gouge in the floor to the front of the combat NPC, "Heh... need to work on my aim!" She said with a blush.

She steped a bit further away from the NPCs and tried the spell again, this time a smaller, more concentrated burst of lightning flung from her hands and struck the mid-strength NPC, who rocked back on his feet, "Yes! Woo! I hit him!!" Lyra shouted jubilantly as she danced a little jig. Her joy came to an abrupt end as the NPC began walking towards her, "Oh... oh crap, Lightning go!" She shouted, throwing her hand out, but her third bolt missed, "Uh oh."
Peter Armiger (played anonymously) Topic Starter

Taylor jumped as lightening leaped from the player next to him, dropping his arrow as he did so. After collecting the fallen arrow he looked at the mark in the ground that seemed to quickly fade away. "I think you... oh never mind you hit him... hey, he seems sort of angry..." The NPC would not take a whole lot to knock out, but that didn't mean anyone would want to take any sort of beating. Raising his bow, Taylor took aim. His aim was off too far to the right, but he felt something in the back of his mind nudge his arm to the left. Following the feeling, he released his arrow.

It was a miss, or course, but the fact that the arrow soared through the air and past the NPCs ear was enough to excite Taylor. "Hey, I think the programming of this place helps us to aim. Just try trusting the nagging feeling in your head... I think..." He shrugged haphazardly, readying another arrow and shooting. This one would also miss, but right by the NPCs side. It was close enough to have made the clothing waver.
Lyra Calendil (played by Terel)

Lyra blushed brightly, "S-sorry Taylor," she said, "Heheh... not very good at aiming lightning," at his advice about the niggling feeling she smiled brightly, "So that's what that is!"

She threw her hands up again, summoning the magic and lashing out, this time following that feeling at the back of her mind. The blast of power struck the NPC full in the chest and threw him flat on his back, smoke curling up from his chest. The NPC groaned and got unsteadily to his feet, charging at her with a shout.

Lyra gave a squeak of shock and stumbled back, "Whah!" She cried as she lost her footing and fell on her rear, "Ow!" She raised her hand to ward him off and a burst of lightning shot from it, up past his head. The NPC blinked to clear his eyes from the light of the near-miss and Lyra scrambled to her feet, "Uh.. um... so just keep hitting him until he fall unconscious. Right... uh... fire?" She blasted the NPC again with her magic, gaining slowly in confidence in wielding the arcane power.
Peter Armiger (played anonymously) Topic Starter

"I'm not very good at shooting arrows," Taylor replied. If he was not in awe of the world around him he would have put much more effort into hiding in his metaphorical shell. His voice still wavered, or trailed, or sounded uncertain, but his awkwardness and feelings of insecurity were starting to diminish.

With more lightening seeming to injure the NPC, Taylor walked towards the weakest test combat NPC. At point blank range, he aimed for the head, and fired. The NPC dropped instantly with an arrow in the forehead. After several seconds it reached up, pulled the arrow out, and stood back up. "Cool," Taylor said to himself. He backed up to what he thought was a good distance for his first try. His first arrow hit the stomach, making the NPC stagger back. The second missed, and the third hit the arm. When he heard Lyra call he wheeled around to see if she needed help. When he saw she was handling it, he took a breath and relaxed.

Then Taylor received a hook punch from the NPC he had neglected. Taking a step back before regaining his feet, Taylor felt no actual pain. He felt pressure and heat, but nothing major like a punch would usually deliver. Taylor turned and hit him with his bow, which was the last bit needed to stagger the enemy backwards before Taylor shot him again and he crumpled to the ground.

"I killed the easy guy... hows the regular guy?" He asked, turning to see how Lyra was doing.
Lyra Calendil (played by Terel)

Lyra had recovered from her little fall and was smiling brightly, laughing as she lashed out at the NPC with arcane power, whipping at him with arcs of lightning, "Woo! I'm a mage! Fear my magic!" She cried excitedly. Her aim was still a little off and only one in every three bolts of magic actually struck the NPC, but t least the constant barrage kept him off-balance and away from the squishy mage girl.

One particularly strong blast of magic hit the NPC in the chest again, hurling him flat on his back where he lay still on the ground. Lyra cheered and danced around, "Yes! I win! I can fight with lightning! This is so awesome!" She stopped suddenly mid-victory dance and blushed brightly when she saw Taylor looking at her, "Oh... err... heh heh... I won," she said sheepishly, rubbing the back of her head.

She looked over at Jirvan, "That was cool... do you know how I can learn new spells? Are there like... spell books or scrolls or something? I really really want to learn some illusion magic," she smiled at Taylor, "Hey, when I learn some illusions, can I put on a show for you? You know I used to be a musician before I...um... died... I want to see if I can still play proper music and sing and use my illusions for the show. Oh! But if...um... if you don't want to..." she trailed off a little uncertainly.
Peter Armiger (played anonymously) Topic Starter

Taylor couldn't help but smile at the enthusiasm that Lyra displayed. "Now we just have to be able to land more hits," he added.

When asked, Jirvan looked to them from where he stood. "When you level up you will automatically gain more spells or abilities. You may also discover and learn spells and abilities through special trainers for your class or 'ancient' scrolls that can be found by defeating bosses. Also, spells and abilities can be 'ranked up' by using them more and more."

Listening to the NPC speak, Taylor already was planning on how he could overpower his archery skills. His mind hadn't registered any of Lyra's words until she said 'hey'. Then he broke his daydream and looked to here, listening to her speak. "Yeah, that would be cool," he told her with more enthusiasm in his voice than he previously held. "I was never any good at music, but I did try writing once. Maybe you can gear towards Illusionist? I don't know how that works," he admitted.
