A young boy stood in the pouring rain, a small hat in one hand and nothing to show for standing there all day. He wore simple clothes, a dirty and torn sweatshirt and jeans. The boy had been waiting at that spot all day, underneath a single streetlight that lighted the small street. Cars whizzed by and splashed him with muddy water, making his hair and clothes even wetter. He had gotten a message in his dreams the night before, saying someone was going to meet him here today and change his life.

Another car raced by, splashing water in the boy's face once again. Sighing, the boy dropped the hat and slid down the uneven brick wall behind him, his head in his knees.

Another cold, rainy day in town. This week had been filled with rain, with little sunshine on a sunny day.A young girl walked through the streets along the side walk. She had blonde hair, and wore a blue dress with a white long sleeve shirt under it, and a pink raincoat, and pink rain boots, and carried a light blue umbrella to keep herself from getting wet, to much.The cars passing by still splashed her, seeing she was short.The little girl pulled out a small sticky note and looked down at a note her father had left her, he had been sure to put it in simple words so she might know how to read it.Find a boy who looks alone. She tilted her head at the note before a car zoomed by splashing dirty water all over her and the note, ruining the writing on the note.After what felt so long, the girl found a young boy who looked a little bigger than her, and she crouched down infront of him, her legs closed, and held the blue umbrella over the little boys head.He wouldn't feel the rain pouring on his head.

The boy had paid no attention to his surroundings until the rain had stopped pounding on his head. He could still hear is raining, just not on him anymore. He looked up and saw a mixture of blue and pink in front of him, along with the golden blond hair of a child a little younger then he was. "Hello." He said, his eyes red from crying and his cheeks wet from rain and tears.

The little girl looked the boy in the face with her blue eyes. A small smile appeared on her face when he greeted her, "hello!~" she said happily a small smile still pasted on her face.Her umbrella was small so it was only enough for one person to fit under and shield from the rain, but Nausicaä had her raincoat hood covering her head, so she didn't mind much.

"Why are you in the rain all alone?" The boy asked after a minute or two of silence, not offering his name just yet. He was weary of the people in the world that used children as bait to try to kidnap other children, and he wasn't going to be taken that easily.

"I was looking for someone.." she put simply.Nothing about this girl showed that she was a threat, but just another innocent child. "I was told to find a boy who looks alone," she said quietly looking away, but quickly looking back at him, "you look alone" she pointed out.

"I've always been alone." He admitted, moving to stand up. He wasn't very tall for his age, but he was a good head or two taller then the girl. "Well where are your parents?" He asked, a bit worried for the girl.

Nausicaä felt a little bad for the boy. Loneliness. She never had felt the feeling of being fully alone. She always had at least one guardian, but right now, she knew how he felt, because she was temporarily in the same situation. Nausicaä stood up to, standing on her tippi toes trying to keep the umbrella over the boys head, though it wasent working out as planned. She looked at the boy, "I don't know" she said.

The boy was a bit shocked when the girl said she didn't know where her parents were, feeling a bit bad for just sitting there. "Are you just lost or...." He let the end of the sentence hang off, noticing that the girl was trying to keep him from getting wet. He gently took the umbrella from her and raised it over both their heads, angling it so it prevented most of the rain from soaking them.

She continued to try to reach high and keep the umbrella over his head, until he took the umbrella from her, and easily did what she was attempting to do. She slowly stopped standing on her tippi toes, and put her arm down. "Daddy says mommys in a better place, but daddys nowhere to be found.." she said sadly.

The boy understood immediately, knowing why the girl was here. "But why did your dad send you to me?" He asked more to himself then to the girl. He was a bit sad that her mom was dead, but even sadder because her father wasn't, yet.

The girl shrugged. All she had was the note that read find a boy who looks alone in smeary, messed up letters on soaked paper. The fact she couldn't control her 'special' ability didn't help.

The boy sighed and took the girl's free hand, guiding her into a nearby alley. He walked all the way to the end and turned into another alleyway with a piece of metal draped across the alley, a blanket underneath along with some food and pillows.

The little girl followed the big boy. Her dad had always told her not to follow, or talk to strangers, but she considered this an exception. After all this boy didn't look like he would hurt her or anything of the sort. She followed at his side into the alley, and turned the corner after him. She tilted her head seeing what lied in this part of the alley. He live here? she wondered to herself.

The boy sat down on the blankets and motioned for the girl to join him, producing a bag of gummy bears. "By the way, I'm David." He said, opening the bag of gummy bears and taking a few out. David handed a couple of the bears to the girl and threw the last two in his mouth.

Nausicaä stopped tilting her head to the side, and walked over to where David was, her rain boots splashing in the rain puddles as she did. Once she was over to where he was she sat down beside him, her blue eyes making there way to the bag of gummy bears he had. She took the gummy head that he gave him, and popped one in her mouth. "I'm Nausicaä" she introduced herself.

"Thats a strange name." David said, neither dissing it or complementing it. He poured six more gummy bears into his hand, handing three of them to Nausicaä. "But it does have a nice ring to it." He smiled after a minute or two, his first smile in a while.

"Daddy says it "one-of-a-kind"" she said popped another gummy bear in her mouth. She looked down at her hand, now she had 5 gummy bears in her hand. She smiled at David, when he said something nice about her name. "Your name reminds me of a guy off a cartoon!" She said with a mouth full of gummys a few moments later, not accidentally spitting out a single one.

David nodded to her first statement, knowing her name would be one-of-a-kind. Popping his gummybears into his mouth, he laughed at her second statement. "Which cartoon?" He asked once he finished chewing the gummybears.

She pondered a moment, "it was something about chipmunks.." she said thoughtfully. She couldn't remember the title though, "one was named Alvin,..and there was guy named Dave but dad says his full name is David"
