"I said I promise! I can take care of myself Nyx, calm down!" Miyu complained to her cousin before closing the front door to their apartment and going on her way. She wore a light pink maxi dress and every once in a while her tail was visible as a bump under her it. She knew they had been following her, but she didn't know who they were and that's why she had left the house today. She was determined to figure out why someone would be following her of all people. Had they figuring out her what she was? People normally didn't get that interested even when they did notice her extra appendage.

She could feel them behind her again, they were so close now. She turned down an empty street to try and get them out of a crowd. She wanted to see who they were, ask them what they were doing. She had no idea this was a horrible choice. She should have stayed in the crowd, or better yet stayed home. But she didn't know, she couldn't know, and now they were closer. She started getting nervous, unsure if she should turn around. What's the worst that could happen? She asked herself. It could just be kids, maybe they want to play, The thought excitedly. With this optimistic thought, she stopped in her tracks and turned around. "Alright, who's there?" She asked with a grin on her face and hands on her hips.

Finding the young woman had been easy enough; white wasn't exactly a common hair color, and even bleaching tended to be obvious. Following her unseen and catching her in a weak moment was the tricky part, and it took coordination. How convenient it was when she broke off down a lonely street, away from the crowd that would only notice anything if it happened right in the middle of them.

Among the crowd was just another man talking away on his cellphone, phrasing things in just the right way that his teammates knew the woman had turned and what street she was on. Elsewhere, a jogging woman with earphones quietly confirmed not only the target's location, but that she seemed to have stopped and was looking back. Within moments, a third individual knelt close to a wall behind the target, taking careful aim with a rifle.

He squeezed the trigger. The sound of the shot was well muffled. She might have been expecting games; what she was getting instead was a tranquilizer dart.

Miyu flinched at a sudden sharp pain in her back. She turned around to see if someone was there, but saw nothing. She reached behind her to find the source of the pain but couldn't reach it. Soon she was feeling lightheaded and the whole world seemed to slow down. The sound around her faded away and soon so did the images as her eyes fell closed. She dropped to the ground in a lump of pink and white before she could even question what had happened or who had caused it.

"Target's down."

"Well that was easy. You sure she's not faking? Her kind are supposed to be tricksters, right?"

"She got the whole dose. Shut up and get her, so we can go collect our pay."

"Look at the bruises they left! That rope was way too tight."

"She'll heal. Her vitals are fine, and all of her body is intact. Brainwaves look like she's waking up, too."

"You know, research doesn't mean you can't have a little compassion. You might even find them all a bit more cooperative."

"Your job."

Whenever Miyu opened her eyes, she'd find herself strapped to a narrow bed in a brightly-lit room. Though she hadn't been stripped, wires were stuck to her head, chest, and and arms, all taking various biometric measurements. One also sat at the base of her spine, and a clamp was attached to one of her tails, tight enough to stay put without being painful. Two bandages were on her arms, one where blood samples had been taken, and another where a chip had been inserted just under the skin.

The first voice, more irritated and much closer, grumbled. A gloved hand was placed on her arm, and with a much softer tone, the voice asked, "Miss, are you awake?"

Miyu pulled her heavy eyelids open and searched for the voice. Her limbs felt heavy, everything felt heavy. She tried to lift her head but wasn't awake enough yet. She hadn't yet realized she was restrained other than the rubbery hand on her arm. Finally her eyes rested on the face which has spoken to her. It took a moment but now her brain had processed the question and come up with a response. Her head nodded slightly and she opened her mouth so speak "Y-yes?" She stuttered out quietly. When she spoke she suddenly became aware that her mouth and throat were extremely dry and her tongue didn't seem to fit properly in her mouth anymore. "Where...? Wh-where am I?"

"You're in a hospital for certain special people, like you," the man said. He sounded young, but the lines in his face said otherwise. "Someone found you laying on a ground. When your tails were noticed, they sent you to us."

The lie had been practiced, and so it came easily. He released her arm and grabbed a pen and clip board.

"We want to make sure you're okay, so I'm going to ask you some questions. Don't be afraid of giving wrong answers, okay? To begin, what is your name and date of birth?"

Miyu gave a slight groan and squeezed her eyes shut, trying to remember what they were talking about. "Someone... Someone was following me." She stated, trying to sit up, but failing. "I can't move. Why can't I move my arms?" She asked, her head fuzzy with confusion from the tranquilizer. "Oh. You wanted my name. I'm, umm, I'm Miyu."

"Relax," the doctor said soothingly, and scribble on a clipboard. Speaking slowly, he explained, "Right now, you're strapped to the bed. We weren't sure what to expect, and we wanted to make she you didn't hurt yourself.

"Now, miss Miyu... do you have a last name? And can you tell me how old you are?"

((so my internet got knocked out for a few days... sorry about that!))

"A-Addams..." Miyu stuttered as she look around the room, becoming frightened very quickly. "Can't you undo them now?" She questioned. "I'm fine now and I-i wanna go home," She explained as she tugged against the straps restraining her. "What's on my head? I feel something on my head."

((S'alright. We almost lost ours, actually, mostly because parts of the house started losing power and the outlet we usually plug the router into still isn't working.))

The man scribbled more on his clipboard, and it was obvious he was writing more than just the name she'd given. "I understand you're likely feeling concerned, miss Addams, perhaps even afraid. I want to assure you that we won't hurt you, alright? We'll take the the straps off soon, but we need to keep you here for awhile to make sure everything's okay."

As something occurred to him, he scribbled again.

"Miss Addams, is there anyone we can notify? When you were brought it, there was no contact information for anyone. We want to be sure no one is worrying that you're missing."

The girl seemed remarkably docile so far. They had all been expecting her to be more in a rage when she woke, but it was seeming like she'd be much easier to work with than anticipated.

Miyu's eyes widened at the question as she thought of her cousin Nyx, surely she would be wondering where she was. "My- No, no I live on my own, you don't need to contact anyone," She said, making the abrupt decision that she shouldn't trust these people yet. She didn't want Nyx to get hurt because of her mistake.

Miyu's breathing hastened a little with anxiety and she tugged against the restraints once more. "Please just undo my arms, I can't stay like this." She asked, eyes starting to water as scenarios ran through her mind. If they'd noticed her tail, they might try to run tests on her, experiment, keep her strapped to tables for ever. That simply wouldn't do, she couldn't live like that, she'd have to get out of here as soon as possible.

The man wrote down a bit more, then glanced over to one of the screens hooked up as the girl's heart rate and respiration increased. He glanced back toward another man then, dressed in the same white, but received nothing more than an open-handed gesture. Looking back to the young woman again, he smiled, set down his clip board, and said, "Alright."

He undid more than just her arms; he released the straps on her legs and one that went over her midsection as well, saying as he did, "You seem to be reasonable, not a threat to yourself or others. We need to leave the wires attached a bit longer, though. Do you feel up to sitting up, she we can go through a basic checkup?"

The other man, meanwhile, stood impassively by the wall. It took effort not to roll his eyes at all the coddling; she was an adult for goodness sake. However, he did cough with he heard, "If all is well, we can introduce you to some of out other patients. I'm sure you'll feel more at ease then, when you aren't just surrounded by us stiff whitecoats."

Miyu gave a nod and pushed herself up into a sitting position. She crossed her legs Indian-style and rubbed her wrists. Her tail wrapped around her waist to lay in her lap as she calmed down some after being released. "What sort of check up?" She questioned as she looked around the room, trying to locate an exit.

"Nothing much. Check your eye focus, take a look in your mouth, get your temperature, ask some questions... those sorts of things," the man said wit a smile.

"Bevers."

"When someone passes out like you did, we need to find the problem and make sure everything else is alright in the meantime."

"Bevers," the other man repeated, more harshly this time.

"Excuse me, miss," the gentler man, apparently Bevers, said with a sigh. He and the other man left the room. Just outside the door, the two got into a whispered argument, with the one man demanding to know what Bevers was thinking and Bevers insisting that it would help her acclimate and open up. There was a frustrated growl-like shout, and a few moments later, Bevers opened the door to come back in with an apologetic smile.

Miyu nodded as the man talked, then strained to hear when he left. She gave a slight jump at the muffled shout. "Is something wrong?" She asked Bevers with concern when he re-entered. The apparent argument definitely added to her discomfort in this strange situation. On top of this, she was still trying to figure out what exactly landed her in this place. They said she passed out, but she remembered being followed. There was something else too, something that hurt. Her hand reached around to her back as she remembered it now, a sting of some sort.

"No, no..." Bevers said, airily waving his hand as if whatever had happened didn't matter. "I'm afraid my colleague is a grumpy man."

He gathered a few harmless-looking tools and brought them to the bedside. Rather than continue using the same gloves he'd just touched so much else with, he peeled them off and put on a fresh pair, then sat down and pulled out a wooden tongue compressor. "He thinks we should keep you alone for awhile yet, and I firmly believe it'd do you good to meet the others. Please say 'ah'."

Miyu gave a nod and did as she was told throughout the exam, all the time wishing she were somewhere else and trying to think up a way to escape. She truly hoped Bevers would win the argument about letting her socialize with the others patients. She thought she might go crazy if she were left in this strange room alone.

Not of what the man did was overly invasive; it was all the typical stuff most kids went through every time they visited a doctor. Whenever he wasn't listening to her heartbeat or otherwise focused, he kept talking, always calm and pleasant. Actually, he spoke to her much like a pediatrician would speak to a child.

"Now, you've probably noticed the bandages. We did do a little blood draw what you were unconscious, just to run some tests and make sure everything is as it should be. We also took just a tiny clipping from your tail. The missing fur shouldn't even be noticeable. It's a lovely tail, but the way. Some of the others you'll meet have tails, but only little ones."

Once he'd finished, he began removing the wires still connected to her; the sticky pads many had been connected to remained in place, though, to be removed at the girl's own leisure.

"That ought to do it. Now, you will of course see other doctors. Because we do deal with different patients than the norm, I'm sure you'll also notice guards lurking around. Don't worry, they're there for your safety. And, if you feel uncomfortable, you can ask someone for Dr. Bevers any time. If I'm here, I'll come as soon as I'm able to, alright? So, are you ready to to meet the others? Or would you like to relax or nap here for a bit longer, first?"
