Ash got off his horse. The light of the cottage was the only visible one in that moonlight-less night. He patted its back before carefully making his way to the house. His sword was sheathed. He doubted he'd have to use it. How hard could it be? When he was close enough, he ducked under a window to listen to movement inside. It was a bad idea to just spring out and hope for the best. No, that wasn't the way he did things.
Winter was moving around inside the small cottage. she was going around the rooms to make sure everything was put away and ready for the next day she didn't hear nor see anyone out side for it was far to dark out to see anything with out the light of the moon.
A quick assesement told him it'd be hard to reach his target from that position. He sighed. This would take more time than what he'd originally thought. "Sweet gods." He exhaled and got away from the window. A different approach would be needed. He pulled up the hood of his coat and headed to the front door, doing his best to look very nice and unthreatening. Ash knocked on the wooden door.
winter looked up from what she was doing startled at the knock at the door. no one should be out this far and at this time but she got up and went to the door opening it*
He paused mid-knock because he'd have hit her nose if he'd continued. "Good evening, miss." He tried smiling but it felt like a grimace. Uh no, better not to smile. He'd only freak her out. "I'm afraid I got lost. Any food to spare you could give to this tired traveler?"
that is alright mister many people get lost out here more so at night please come in.*she steps back to let you in*
Ash couldn't believe his luck! He stepped inside, looking around the place. Once he'd killed her, he'd need a quick, soundless escape. Better safe than sorry. "Thanks you, miss. You're very kind." Now! He frowned, his poison-coated dart still in his pocket. Why am I doubting? Is she a witch? He eyed her warily over his shoulder.
she smiles and nods closing the door behind him and turns toward him still smiling but he sees she is different but he can not find out what is so different about her*
He sits down awkwardly on the couch, his movements, not tired, but tense and alert. "You live out here alone? Isn't that a bit dangerous?"
she smiles and shakes her head* only to those who do not know what they are doing out here those are the people who are in the most danger*she goes to the sink* would you like something to drink or eat?*she looks over at him*
Ash nodded politely, not taking his eyes off her. She was smiling. Maybe she knew and was plotting against him. "Yes, please. Tea is fine, if you have some." He requested. He knew how to search for poisons, and if he detected any, he promised himself he'd kill her.
she smiled and nodded turning her back to him not at all afraid she had no reason to be if he tried to hurt her she could kill him before her could her she made him his tea and handed it to him* here you go
"Thank you." He didn't dare drink yet. And instead just sat still. After a few seconds though, the sound of hooves reached his ears. He tensed even more than he'd already had. "Do you hear that? Were you expecting someone?"
she stiffens at the sound of the hooves and shakes her head* no i wasn't no one comes here...unless they are lost travelers and need help finding there way other then that no.....no one comes here....
He dropped the act and shot to his feet, approaching the window. The riders were still some distance away, but there wasn't a minute to lose. They certainly weren't here for the tea. "I assure you, they're no lost travelers. I advise you to leave."
She watched him get up and go to the windo she picked up the tea he droped and went to the kitchen* leave? Were will I go if I leave
"I have the feeling anywhere would be better than here." He was pacing around, his mind going over his possibilities, and to his dismay, hers too. "I can drop you at the next town, if you want, but that will be all. Is there a back door?"
She thinks*yes just in the bed room and I'm staying with you I may look like nothing but I know how to fight...in my own way of course
Ash gave her a blank look and sighed. "Well, that's good to know." With each passing second he became more sure he hadn't been sent there merely to kill this girl. He'd been sent there to die with her. "We'll solve that later. Now, let's go."
she just shakes her head when he looks at her blankly* fine let us go then if we are going to go
