Well the last two manga series I have been reading have ended in THOROUGHLY disappointing ways. I'm not going to say which mangas so I won't spoil things, but I will explain why they have disappointed me.
Manga 1. This manga's main character has been protected for virtually the entire series by a boyfriend character with basically godly power. Throughout the series she has slowly gained some power of her own, but hasn't yet grown past the need for her godly babysitter. In one chapter she reveals some new power which is never really brought up again. Finally at the end, her babysitter basically tries to depower her for her own good, she rejects him and stands up to him. Then the guy a few chapters later sacrifices himself. It looks like that it is finally her time to shine, then..it looks like he ended up protecting her from the grave, the whole thing is resolved off screen so not entirely sure. Then a long time later, she sacrifices herself to bring him back to life.... Just really? I never got to see the protagonist actually be his equal. Never actually got to see her not need to be protected by someone like she had been the entire series. Not sure if I really explained this well, so I understand if you don't get it. >.<
Manga 2. The big bad have been released and he's kicking everyone's rear ends. However the battle couple have finally awoken and tamed this legendary power they have had since the first few chapters in the manga. It looks like it is time for the new generation to accept the torch. They attack this horrifying big bad........and completely fail to do anything to him. The only thing they manage to accomplish is summon this incredibly op character from the past. Then these incredibly powerful characters........talk...... and then commit suicide peacefully with a few of the other elders... on top of this there is a revelation that makes the whole dang series incredibly squicky. That's it. It was just so anticlimatic....I mean really? THAT'S how it ends?!
*sad Katia is sad* T.T

Most manga and anime today is crap, but that could just be me being a cynical old [RADIO EDIT]. I've given it a change but nothing really wows me anymore. I watched Bleach, Naruto (both) in their entireties and they had their moments but suffered from too predictable syndrome. Having said that, I really. Wouldn't mind watching attack on titan. I quit watching and reading most stuff around 10 years ago. Dbz 4evar
I think people are running out of things to write about when it comes to manga and animes. A lot has been done twenty thousand times over already in every conceivable genre. Unless someone touches upon a completely new or uniquely modified idea, chances are the story is pretty stale or sucks. The desire to be consistent is probably strong to make things marketable to fans of the genre, as new things are icky and scary most of the time, and if it isn't ground breakingly good, nobody will publish something more interesting.
I haven't watched many animes, and I've read even fewer mangas (read a lot of webcomics, though...). When I was with my second set of roommates, I amused one by "devouring" her manga, but she only had several books in of a few sets, and I only vaguely remember anything about them. The only one I really read heavily was D. Gray-man, and I kinda gave up when it kinda... totally stopped being what it'd started as.
I have a friend who seems to love anything anime or manga though. Lately, she keeps going on about how "epic" some sports-based things are. To be fair, I think she's mostly laughing at them.
Does DBZ Abridged count?
