Glad to hear all is well! :D What did he say about the tank/her favoring the colder part of the tank?
Zelphyr Topic Starter

Apparently I had it generally in the upper range of what she favors, so the warm side was a bit too warm.

Dozer, meanwhile, had previously been a tad cold, and we now have a whole room I almost sweat in for her. ^^;

Not too long ago, I bought a small orchid to pretty up Desi's tank (and because I've been wanting an excuse to get an orchid, and turns out it needs the same temp and lighting as she does). It's been in there a week or two, but she's mostly ignored it. A few minutes ago, I was going to go hold her for a bit, but decided to leave her be when I saw this:

On an unrelated note, I fed her the second time a bit sooner than I'd intended because she started spending more time outside her hides, and it made me wonder if she was looking for food. I ended up giving her an accidentally cooked mouse, without really expecting her to eat it... but eventually, when I was going to go grab it to toss it, I discovered she had eaten it.

The accidental cooking part, well... I heated some water to thaw it faster, but I heated it too much, and it actually cooked the thing within several minutes. Interestingly... it smelled pretty good. XD
your snake is so cute

and cooked mouse.. sounds eh.. tasty?

Thought I'd go ahead and give an update. Feel free to skip this whole thing though.

It's sad
When I woke up yesterday, I found Desi dead. Just the day before, I had firmly decided that if she didn't eat the pinkie I left with her overnight, I was going to take her to the vet. Despite numerous attempts trying various methods, we couldn't get her to eat again after the first two times, and she was becoming lethargic. This came exactly a month after the last time she did eat. I took her in to the vet anyway to find out what had happened, and sure enough, she had starved to death.

Today, I just got back from taking care of her. The only thing I could think to do that wouldn't bother me was to leave her in the woods, and I did just that. I found a spot where other people were unlikely to go, found a small, shallow pit, and left her cradled in it.

In other news, Dozer, the tortoise, is doing well and eats like a freaking vacuum.
:(
Some scaley friends just can't adjust to new environments very well :<
Had something like that almost happen to an iguana long time ago, but took it back before it got worse.

At least you named your tortoise appropriatelly. XD

Well, whenever I'm willing to get another, if it seems like it'll be a problem again, the vet said they'd be willing to show me how to force feed without causing damage. I just hope it never comes to that.

And Dozer's name will become even more appropriate as she grows. She's going to get huge, and her species has been (occasionally) known to break through concrete with 4x4's reinforcing it. She's easy to manage now, but that most certainly won't always be true. ^^;
Oh no... I am so sorry, Novalyyn. Losing a member of the family {scaly or no} is always tough. My little sand boa, Bites, went without eating for a very long time in the winter. She would kill mice and just leave them. It wasn't until I upgraded her heating that she gradually regained an appetite, and it was a scary period. At least you tried to feed her. I'm sorry :C

Dozer is absolutely precious btw.
Good gawd o.o
Need a steel bunker for that thing xD Or maybe not buy a pet that can escape anytime it feels like @__@

It's going to be a bit before I'll be comfortable with another corn snake, but... I got a baby ball python. I don't know its gender yet, but I have dubbed it Patrick.

When I can, I'll post a photo that better shows its size. I've been letting it adjust to its new home, and having fed it just earlier (5 pinkies), there's no way I'm sticking my hand in there for the rest of the day. ^^;

Just got back from Patrick's first vet appointment. All is well, and vet figures about a 90% chance that Patrick is male. :)

He also seems to very much enjoy eating, so that's good. ^^

Here we go. Be aware: I have small hands.

Well at least the gender issue has been (mostly) solved. XD
Has it already gotten bigger since those last pictures were taken, or is it just the way its curled up in your hand?

Completely - well, mostly - off-topic, but that reminds me...
My 8th-grade science teacher kept a boa constrictor (I think it was) in the classroom in a custom-made plastic-and-plywood tank. Would feed it rats in the middle of class and let everyone watch, sometimes taking it out to show us kids. He was also a huge 70's/80's music fan, and would blast music off from his computer's RealPlayer whenever we had nothing better to do. And he held bracket tournaments during March Madness for cans of soda, grade improvements, and such.

At one point he also had this robotics thing with ping pong balls and gripper hands, but I only saw it in action once or twice and never got to play with it :<

Case in point: coolest teacher I've ever had. :P

He might have grown a little, but that photo is making him and my hand look bigger, too. I'd say things in that photo are somewhere around 2/3 the size shown, maybe 3/4. If you mean width though, it's just a better angle; they're just that fat in the middle.

And yes, that's a cool teacher. :)

This might show Patrick's size a little better.

And when she's not burrowed into her bedding, this is how Dozer naps. ^^

The housemate who Dozer belongs to is on a roadtrip right now, but we sent him this.

Meet Scamp, the water dragon. :3

No idea what gender it is yet.
Getting to be quite the zoo there X_x

Oh my goodness Scamp is full of SASS. <3
Zelphyr Topic Starter

Scamp has its first vet appointment yesterday. Vet's leaning a bit toward male, but it's too early to tell. Apparently, it came with some parasites, so those are getting treated. Since it's not been eating and is a little underweight, they also gave me some (no-needle) syringes and a can of dog and cat food to feed it with until it starts reliably eating on its own. And I was warned that I need to tape up the inner bottom of the tank because water dragons have a bad habit of bashing their faces and rubbing their noses down to the bone otherwise. >.<

But I'ma give it lotsa love. <3
