hiya! i'm new to this site, and i was seeing a term being tossed around in some of the rp ads...ftb? this might be a dumb question but could someone please tell me what that means/stands for?? also nice to meet you all!
Ftb is short for Fade to Black, which basically means that sexual situations can happen in the story, but they will not be played out in detail - the game will cut directly to the time after, basically fading away.
thank you!!
A bit late, but there is also FtG, fade to grey! It's a bit more explicit, but still skips the sexual scene, and usually only features the beginning and right after, with some erotic descriptions, but without the sexual act.
I sometimes use that term when the scene started, but either party doesn't feel like writing that stuff for any reason, so it's just skipped with a bit of spice still kept.
This can also apply to fight scenes. Sometimes writing combat gets repetitive, or maybe someone decides that it's a bit too much for them, so it's just skipped after some posts to the conclusion of the conflict, with heavily implied happening of it. Bruises, heavy breathing, characters still restraining each other, and so on.
Shortly: FtB skips most, or everything that happened. FtG is used when more descriptions, implications and language are applied, but without the most explicit, intense or boring parts.
Both are used commonly for smut and combat, but you can use it to any themes!
