The mother nodded once. “James, finish petting the cat. If you want more treats then we should leave. We’re stopping others from enjoying the treats.”
Lin was quick to tug her brother back to their mother. She had already sensed the mild tension between her mother and the big dog man, and definitely didn’t want to be between them should a disagreement break out. James was sad to leave the cat so soon but complied and followed after his sister, giving a final wave to the cat and its owner.

Were the bog witch and Vince fighting? It felt like they were, or at least they were in the threatening phase. Vince threw out a growl, although it sounded a bit like a questions.
Snarl?
Yeah, that would show them not to mess with him!
He successfully seem to drive the kids off from… the cat? Yeah, the cat.
Quickly, he stepped up to lean down and pet it, marking his new territory.
"What had just happened?" he whispered to Shadow in the fain hopes that he would know.

Takara watched from nearby as the mother and her children left, hidden behind some foliage in the form of a fox.
She wasn't particularly fond of children. They liked to grab at her tails, for one thing. She could go on for hours about what exactly bugged her about small children, but she wouldn't.
Her shorter physique often caused people to mistake her for a child. Most of the time this would bother her. But Halloween? Oh boy, did she love exploiting her appearance for the sake of candy.
And tonight was no different. Shifting back into her humanoid form, the floppy-eared kitsune walked towards the others.
She had removed her usual blue kimono in favor of what seemed to be a Sailor Moon outfit, her long brown hair done up in space bun pigtails and each of her four tails with a cute bow tied around the tip.
She had a mischievous glint in her purple eyes as she tilted her head slightly and took in the two strangers.
"Hiii!" She swished her tails cutely even as she smirked. "Trick or Treat! What kinda candy ya got?"
Her nose twitched a bit, like she was trying to smell the goodies through the wrapping.

Shadow meowed as he watched them walk away.
Azella smiled. "Happy Halloween!." She saw Shaows reaction and added. "Come back any time to see Shadow."
She smiled as another round of kids came walking up.
Shadow retreated behAs the last trick-or-treaters disappeared down the street, Shadow meowed softly, observing their retreating figures with a mix of curiosity and longing. The autumn leaves danced around his paws, but his attention was entirely focused on the little ghosts and witches, memories of playful interactions lingering in his feline mind. Azella, noticing the way her cat kept watching, couldn’t help but chuckle. “Happy Halloween!” she called out to the children, her voice bright and warm, as she waved them goodbye, hoping they would remember this night fondly. Shadow, in tune with her infectious joy, seemed to perk up at the thought of future visits.
“Come back any time to see Shadow!” Azella added cheerfully, encouraging the children to forge a connection with her beloved pet. With a satisfied meow, Shadow’s ears perked up at the sound of his name, though he remained nestled near his favorite corner. The spirit of the festive evening thrived on Azella’s enthusiasm, which echoed in the fallen leaves and warm glow of the porch lights. It was a night dedicated to costumes and laughter, and Shadow, with his sleek black coat, was as much a part of it as the candy baskets and jack-o’-lanterns that adorned the neighborhood.
Soon, another wave of costume-clad children approached, and Azella couldn’t help but feel a rush of excitement. Her heart lifted as the sound of giggles and chatter floated through the air, prompting her to step forward and roll a bowl of treats closer to the edge of the porch. The laughter of the children filled the night, creating a delightful backdrop, while Shadow watched from his hidden spot. His whiskers twitched with intrigue as the trick-or-treating magic unfolded once more. Azella’s home had transformed into a hub of joy and anticipation, each knock at the door promising another colorful encounter.
In contrast to the lively atmosphere, Shadow took a step back, seeking comfort in his familiar companion, Vince. He nuzzled against Vince’s leg, the innate need for companionship driving him to seek refuge against the human’s warm presence. As Vince bent down to scratch behind his ears, a soft rumble of contentment escaped him, revealing the cat's genuine affection towards both him and the Halloween festivities. Underneath the laughter and excitement, Shadow found solace in the little moments of connection, a gentle reminder that even in the midst of chaos, there would always be a place for him to feel safe and loved.
ind Vince. He began rubbing his leg with his head to get some scratches.

ind Vince. He began rubbing his leg with his head to get some scratches.
Vince would always be a friend to cats. Maybe he should've worn a Hellboy-costume after all. Snake Plissken just was cheaper for him.
Shadow got his pets and scratches as he watched the other children approaching.
He took a moment, trying to remember which eye the patch was supposed to go, as his nose told him that there was something off with one of the newscomers.
"This house seems to draw in strange people." He told Shadow.
Well, Vince was included in those strange people, so he tried his best. The latest strangeness was a girl, costumed as a kitsune, costumed as a Sailor Guardian.
Vince scratched his own head. That one seemed to be very foxlike as well.
"We've got full-sized candy bars. Like… I think this house is a jackpot!" He informed the Kitsune. "And by we I mean her, I'm just here to eat those." He smiled as he nodded towards Azalla. "…and talk to her cat. Well, but I can get you set up, but you have to say the line! It is an essential part of the costume!"

Azella burst into laughter at Vince's comment, a delightful melody that echoed through the warm atmosphere. "Give yourself credit," she urged, her eyes sparkling with mirth. "You are really good at making us all laugh!" Turning slightly, she smiled at the newcomers, welcoming them into the lively exchange. Her friendly demeanor set the tone, making it clear that this gathering was one of joy and camaraderie, where laughter was the language of the day.
Shadow couldn't help but join in the laughter, his deep voice resonating as he added, "You have no idea what I see that she doesn’t. That’s why I’m here. I protect her." His protective nature was evident, yet his playful spirit brought a lightness to the conversation. With a teasing snort, he added, "A cat is merely one of my many forms," meowing softly for the attention of the new children present. The enchanted atmosphere was thick with magic and whimsy, binding the group together in their shared amusement.
The camaraderie continued to flourish as Azella held out her bowl, inviting the newcomers to indulge. "Take as much as you like!" she encouraged, her laughter ringing pure and free. There was something irresistible about her energy, a magnetic pull that drew everyone closer. This was more than just a gathering; it was a celebration of friendship, laughter, and the kind of moments that blossomed into joyful memories.
Amid the playful exchanges, Azella's eyes sparkled with admiration as she lit up upon spotting a familiar costume. "I love Sailor Moon! Great costume!" she exclaimed, a delighted giggle escaping her lips. Her enthusiasm was contagious, igniting smiles among the children and adults alike. In this enchanted space, filled with laughter and joy, the bonds of friendship grew deeper, proving that the simplest moments could create the most profound connections.

Takara was eager to get her hands on some of those candy bars. She didn't have a specific favorite, but she was a sucker for peanut butter treats. And on the non-sweet side of things, she also loved cheese.
Unfortunately for her, cheese was not a common Halloween staple. She could always bother somebody she knew for that kind of snack, anyway.
For now, she lingered at the group. The lady with the candy, the guy who smelled like a werewolf, and the cat that reminded her of someone she knew. More specifically, a friend of a friend's familiar. It wasn't important, though.
"Right, right. Trick or Treat!" She chirped before grabbing a piece of candy and munching on it. She noticably didn't have a bag with her, so she just snarfed down whatever she happened to grab.
Her nose continued to twitch after she finished her treat, observing the man. Definitely a werewolf, though he seemed to be good at keeping his other form at bay. She's met a few different ones, one who had her wolf form as the default, and for some reason or another they're her favorite type to bother. Not counting those smaller than her, though. She was a bully through and through.
But tonight, she seemed willing to play nice. Make conversation. Maybe it was just the energy the woman was radiating. Was she a witch? Was her talking cat a familiar?
Very few people had pleasant interactions with Takara. Maybe these two would get added to that short list.
"What're you supposed to be?" She teased the man, tails swaying behind her. "Your costume, I mean."

"I'm just here to eat candy and talk to her demon." Vince corrected himself on the last word, before giving Azalla a quick smile.
Then he returned his gaze to the costumed… foxgirl?
"I think you said that one already, I meant the other line, the Sailor Moon line."
Vince tried to remember the pose - it was like, one crossed arm, then devil horns but pointed like finger guns, "In the name of the moon… something something?"
Being the gruff, big guy that he was added a whole other layer to his doomed attempt.
He tilted his head and still looked at Takara as he crouched down to Shadow again.
"Call me Snake. The name's Plissken" he said, now going into a full gruff mode. "…it was a guy from an 80's dystopian John Carpenter flick. Coolest guy around. Back at the orphanage, I…"
Ah. Past. Not the best topic. Vince decided not to dwell on it. Trivia to the rescue!
"…he basically inspired every Metal Gear Solid main character ever, except for the cyborg–ninja–guy with an empty room and soul."

"Oh! I never watched the anime or anything, I just thought the costume would be cute." Takara smiled in an almost Cheshire Cat manner. "Should I? I do like trying to get with the times. I just love all your funny nonsense words and those...what's the term? 'Vines!'"
She giggled. "Though I guess those are still a little old now. I don't try very hard to be modern, usually. But that's fine. I already know what I like. I don't need anything else."
