Rayna called Meph for two reasons. The first being that he was the first available person that she could see who might actually know where the axe was supposed to be properly stored, and the second being, she knew without a doubt that Meph would be able to remove the axe from the child. She would have called it a power struggle, but Meph’s grip was unbreakable.
It was barely a minute of conflict before the axe was secured, and the child began to scurry back towards his group. Rayna let out a small sigh, thankful she hadn’t been taken out at the knees. She would heal, but damn, she would be cranky about it. Quickly though, against the giant of a man, the child fussed but lost the battle quickly. As soon as he ran off, Rayna looked into his stormy eyes, and smiled. “No problem. I know it’s Halloween and all, but I didn’t think a child with an axe was, you know, appropriate.”
She would wait the minutes that it took him to put the axe back, and let her eyes scan the area to make sure they didn’t have any more runaway children. When she didn’t see any, and all the children seemed to be with their appropriate adult, she looked back over as Meph approached her. The offer was of food, and it made Rayna grin. “A Meph cooked meal? Count me in!” She said happily as she followed him back over to the table.
“I didn’t know you enjoyed Halloween.” This was not at all a mean statement, but one of pure curiosity. “Is it part of your shift work, or just something you wanted to do this year?” She had never known him to be a social creature, so it surprised her that he was out in a crowd like this.

Meph was not social at all. People usually didn't understand his reserved manner and usually thought him haughty, which was the furthest from who he really was. Meph had an inferiority complex that kept him in a shy and relatively silent state. He spoke only when spoken to and his responses were never lengthy. A man of very few words but had a sea of thoughts behind his eyes. Complex was an understatement when it came to him.
When Rayna asked him about liking Halloween, he just shrugged a little. "It's a night like any other." Meph stuffed his large hands into his pockets and walked with Rayna over to the food table. "I'm on duty. The cap said as long as there are no calls, I can cook." Meph reached over and got her a plate and handed it to her. He then turned back towards all the people and checked that no one was getting into trouble.
