Hello!

I have been a type 1 Diabetic for some time now. I was diagnosed a month before my 18th birthday, so I have been living with diabetes for several years. It has been a tough journey, but it has made me stronger as a person and more aware of myself! I am on two types of insulin and have a libre sensor on my arm that helps track my glucose (sugar) levels, which is a lifesaver!

Ask me anything down below! Would love to answer some questions ^^

Hi fellow type 1!! :D

What's the best thing to have happened in your life because of diabetes?
Are you still able to eat sugary treats provided they are in small portions and in moderation?

In what way has diabetes made you stronger and more aware of yourself?

Hi Sanne! The best thing that has happened to me because of diabetes would be putting myself first in situations ^^
I've always known to put myself last, but ever since being Diabetic, I made sure to put myself first in any situation, no matter how minor or major they may be

Hi Knight!

I sure am! As long as my glucose levels are in the green zone, sugary treats can be eaten in small amounts! If I'm having a low, though (glucose levels going down, which means I need sugar), I can have more sweets to help boost it up!

Diabetes has given me the blessing to put myself first before anyone else. I am not selfish nor self centred, but when it comes to a situation that I may stress or can't handle, I will simply walk the other way to keep myself safe and for my glucose levels to not sky rocket and put me in a bad mood lol

A lot of people know desserts can spike blood sugar in diabetics, but are there any other foods you need to be careful with?

Hi Claine!
Other foods that can be harmful are fruits. Berries are perfectly safe for us, but fruits have a tendency to be high in sugar, especially when juiced! High carb meals are also something you need to be careful with if you're not injecting enough insulin.

No problem! ^^
It feels weird saying hi here like we aren't already friends lmao

BUT I want to ask.. since I assume one's diet would change with such a diagnosis(do correct me if I'm wrong please lol) have your favourite foods changed with that? or your least favourite foods o:

Lmao hiiii Echooooo
Honestly, my favourite foods still are the same, but I can at least say that I have to have less of it. For example, my favourite fruit is watermelon, but too much of it will make my glucose spike ridiculously. So I've come to favour berries more since I can eat them without having to moderate them lmao. My least favourite foods continue to stay my least favourite foods, haha
