On the night before Saintsmas, when all through the house
not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
...
Or well, it wasn't a house, but an academy. And quite a few mice were stirring, actually- up late studying magic and such.
One of the people who was up stirring was none other than the headmistress of the academy, Lunaria- up late not for magical purposes (although some magic is involved), but rather for planning purposes. It is almost time for the yearly Saintsmas festival. While the holiday originates in the empire, it had been adopted by the people of Magicka long ago as a night of revelry, gift giving and celebration, where both toy and alcohol purchases skyrocket, almost the opposite of the empire's more somber and religious practice.
"What for this year's celebration..." She mumbled. "Make all the flowers in the garden bloom? Cup of magical refilling? Day off of classes?"
Lunaria quickly jotted down these ideas on a floating scroll.
"We do have a few dusty children's books in the libraries, maybe we can give those away."
Suddenly, she heard a bump from behind a stack of books. She felt herself jump from the bump, and looked over to it's source. After a bit of searching the area, she found nothing, so simply brushed it off. Little did she know, a figure stood in the shadows, listening to her every word.
---
Saintsmas morning came, and people walked the streets of Academy Town with smiles on their face. Children ran with new toys, men ran to the pubs, students ran from their classes. But many were gathered at the front gate of the academy of Magicka, preparing for a speech from the headmistress. Lunaria emerged from the academy, walking up onto a floating platform.
"Greetings, citizens of Magicka." She said. "I am sure you are all waiting anxiously for tonight's festivities. Tonight, outside of academy grounds, we will be giving away free mead and books to all those who attend. Bards will be on sight, preparing many a merry song.
"As for anyone wanting to come inside... We will have a ball open to all."
The crowd gasped in shock. Balls were not common in the academy, and when they are, only students and nobles are allowed to attend. But tonight, all are invited to attend.
"The only things you would require is formal wear- gowns and suits and the like. No weapons or spellcasting catalysts are permitted either. if you meet these requests, you may enter."
The crowd was abound with chatter, everyone discussing this ball. The headmistress could hardly get out the rest of her speech, but it's not like they were listening anyways.
---
Hours passed, and Magicka's full moon peaked into the sky. As the daylight dwindled, the academy's gates were flung open. In the academy's lobby, the headmistress and the academy's masters waited for the first guests to arrive.
