Whispers of magic echo throughout the kingdoms of man. Tales of dragons and elves are known throughout the world. Some remnants of this magic still exist, such as crystals that grow, drinks that make you fly, etc. But all of it was lost long ago, now only seen through children stories and legends, perhaps an elder's tale of the good old days. Different people say different things, such as all of the fantastic leaving to another reality, simply fading away, or, one of the most popular, all of the magic going to a paradise land far to the east. However, no one knows the truth. The method to the eastern lands are dangerous, not even men sent by the kings of all the known world could brave it and come back alive. But all that might change soon.
Jooters Blaccat is a young boy about age 10, and was recently diagnosed with an incurable disease called Grim's Decay. In short, his body will slowly start to grow weaker and weaker until his heart requires too much strength to beat. It's a slow one, but he only has about a month longer to live. Your character is his caretaker, with only a few coins to your name and no good place to live. Despite this, you promised to fulfill his final wishes no matter what. He answered back only one wish: to see magic. Real magic, not like the street magicians who pull rabbits out of hats. And so, using the last of their money, your character buys some food, weapons, and a carriage to as far east as it'd carry the two, ready to see if these stories are true.
