Asa Mitaka entered the academy, her heart pounding against her ribs. It was her first day, and the weight of uncertainty pressed down on her shoulders. The towering gothic structures loomed over her, their spires clawing at the sky. The halls stretched endlessly, filled with an eerie mix of whispers, growls, and the occasional inhuman screech.
Yoru walked behind her, unseen by everyone but Asa. The war devil’s presence was a constant shadow, a reminder that she would never truly be alone—even when she wanted to be. Asa kept her head down, her arms wrapped around her books like a shield. She wished she could fade into the background, but in a school filled with monsters, she felt even more out of place.
Vampires with crimson eyes watched from the dimly lit corridors, their fangs glinting in mischievous smirks. A cyclops lumbered past, its single eye fixated on something in the distance. Hybrids of all kinds—winged, horned, scaled—chattered in groups, completely at ease in their monstrous forms. Compared to them, Asa felt painfully human, fragile in a world where strength ruled.
“Stop looking so nervous,” Yoru’s voice echoed in her mind, low and impatient. “You’re embarrassing yourself.”
Asa clenched her fists. She knew Yoru was right, but that didn’t make it any easier. This was her new reality. A school where nightmares roamed freely. And she was just another outsider trying to survive.

Sooyoung made her way up to the gates of the academy, her hands gripping at the handles of her backpack. She looked up at the castle, realizing how big it is on the outside " Oh wow! " She gulped " That is one big school- "
It was her first year at this school. Her parents, being both of dragon races, talked fondly of this school. They said that this place is where you become your true selves. She sighed a little and took a little deep breath, placing her hand on deep blue necklace around her neck
" Let's hope your right mom and dad "
She slowly made her way into the gates of the school. she climbed the stairs and stepped into the building. She stopped and looked around, taking the view. She can hear the rustling of kids walking by to classes, lockers, to their friends. She can hear kids chatting up conversations too
" This may be an exciting first year? " She whispered to herself " I hope "

Asa finally made it to her class, slipping through the door with her heart still hammering in her chest. She glanced around—rows of desks filled with creatures of all kinds, some chatting in low voices, others baring fangs or flexing claws. She swallowed hard and hurried to her assigned seat, hoping to go unnoticed.
Yoru trailed behind her, arms crossed, her voice an endless stream of complaints. "This place reeks of weakness. Look at them—pathetic. That vampire over there? All bark, no bite. And don’t get me started on that cyclops. One eye and still couldn’t see an attack coming."
Asa clenched her jaw, gripping the edges of her desk. "Shut up," she muttered under her breath.
But Yoru wasn’t done. "I don’t know why you’re so nervous. You should be sitting up straight, making a statement. Assert dominance. Instead, you’re cowering like prey. It’s embarrassing."
Asa exhaled sharply, staring at the desk in front of her. She just needed to focus. Breathe. Ignore Yoru.
Yoru sighed dramatically. "At least find someone useful to ally with. If you’re going to be this pathetic, we need someone strong to cover for you."
Asa clenched her fists, her patience thinning. This was going to be a long day.

Sooyoung sighed as she made her way towards a locker that seemed to be empty. A voice inside her head starts talking to her. It seemed to be the dragon side of hers that was being kept inside that necklace of hers
" Sooyoung! " The voice said
Sooyoung tried to ignore it and continued walking. She was trying to keep this school year troublesome free.
" psssst sooyoung! I know you hear me! " The voice said again
She winced and gritted her teeth " What do you want Vextra?! " She whispered
Vextra chuckled " Ready to make this year awesome?! " She said, laughing
Sooyoung rolled her eyes " Uh yea no. Last time we did that, I got in trouble. BECAUSE OF YOU! so no. Imma keep this school year troublesome free! " She said
Vextra sighed " Ohh come on Sooyoung! Don't be a party pooper! "
She gritted her teeth more " The answer is no! that's final! "
Vextra disappears from her head for now. Sooyoung sighed and continued walking " That dragon! I swear to god! " She walked past a girl(Being asa) and up to an empty locker

As Sooyoung walked past, Asa couldn't help but notice her talking to herself. It was something she herself did often, though she usually kept it to a whisper. She hesitated for a moment, unsure if she should say anything, but eventually spoke up, her voice soft and almost reluctant.
“Uh... are you... talking to someone?” Asa asked quietly, her eyes avoiding direct contact. She bit her lip, nervous about even asking, but it was hard not to notice. "I... talk to myself sometimes too."
She quickly glanced away, feeling awkward. "Sorry. I just thought... maybe it’s the same for you."

Sooyoung quickly looked over her and jumped a little bit
" Oh jeez! You scared me a little bit! " She chuckled. She thought about her question and nodded slowly " Yea. I do. Sometimes. Whenever she feels like talking. She can be stubborn "
She chuckled " Not all the time she feels like talking "
She puts her books away and shuts the locker
" My name is Sooyoung " She said, smiling

Asa flinched slightly when Sooyoung jumped, but she quickly relaxed when the girl chuckled. She hesitated for a moment, before slowly meeting her gaze.
"Stubborn, huh?" Asa murmured, the corners of her lips twitching just slightly in recognition of what Sooyoung was saying. "I get that... I think my... companion is pretty stubborn too." Her fingers fidgeted with the strap of her bag, her gaze drifting down.
When Sooyoung introduced herself, Asa looked up, her eyes flickering briefly. “I’m Asa," she replied, her voice quieter than usual. "Nice to meet you..." She looked at the ground, a little unsure of what to say next, but she couldn't help the small, almost invisible smile tugging at her lips.

" Nice to meet you too " she said. She grabbed her backpack " We have time before the first years need to be in the room for introduction to the school. We can go chill outside. Like get to know each other...and hopefully...be friends? " She suggested
she quickly looked away and down " If you would like that is. don't want you to feel like I'm forcing you "
Vextra speaks again " Look who is finally trying to make friends! "
Sooyoung clench's her fists " Shut up Vextra! " She whispered

Asa blinked, caught off guard by Sooyoung’s suggestion. She wasn’t used to being invited to hang out, especially by someone she had just met. The thought of it made her feel a little nervous, but she didn’t want to seem rude. She looked up slowly, glancing at Sooyoung with an almost shy expression.
“I... um, yeah, sure,” Asa said softly, her voice barely audible. “I mean, I don’t mind. It’s... it’s just, I’m not really good at making friends.” She scratched the back of her neck, clearly uncomfortable.
When Sooyoung spoke to herself again, Asa noticed the change in her tone and raised an eyebrow. “Uh... you okay?” she asked, her voice tentative. "It sounded like you were... talking to someone."
Before Sooyoung could respond, Asa’s mind was suddenly filled with a voice, sharp and mocking. “Oh, look who’s trying to make friends,” Yoru’s voice echoed in her head, teasing. “Is this the start of your big social life, Asa?”
Asa winced, a small blush creeping up her neck. She quickly tried to ignore Yoru’s comment. “Sorry,” she muttered under her breath, not wanting Sooyoung to hear. “I... sometimes... uh, someone talks to me too." She awkwardly shifted on her feet, unsure whether to explain further.
“It’s... a bit strange,” Asa added hesitantly, “But yeah... I guess I could try to be friends. I mean, it doesn’t hurt, right?”

" Heh. Yea. I was talking to my other half. No one can see her really. She is more like a voice in my head. Her actual counterpart is this necklace which is around my neck " she shows her the deep blue necklace
She chuckles " Her name is Vextra. She can be a lot "
" I am not really allowed to let her out. She is troublesome and the reason I got kicked out of my last school " She said
" And it's okay if your not good at making friends. I can help and I'll be your first friend " she smiled
" At first, I was like you. Shy and often felt alone. Which i was because of, well you know, who i am and my family. Never had any friends. But i learned to just be myself and you may find others like you. who get you "
She smiled

Asa glanced at Sooyoung’s necklace, nodding slowly. “Vextra, huh? Sounds like... you’ve got a lot going on in your head.” She shifted uncomfortably, then added, “I get it. I’ve got someone in my head too.”
Yoru’s voice cut in immediately, sharp and teasing. “Look at you, Asa, talking to someone else.”
Asa winced but didn’t respond to Yoru. “Her name’s Yoru,” she murmured. “She’s... well, she’s a devil. She’s always in my head, talking like she owns it. Can’t really let her out, or things get... messy.”
She paused, then gave Sooyoung a small, shy smile. “Thanks for saying that. I... I’m not good at making friends either, but maybe we could try. I’d like that.”

" Yea. I guess I do have alot going on in my head " She said to her
She patted her shoulder " as your friend, from now on, if you ever need help or want to talk, You can come to me " She said to her and smiled
She looked at the time on her watch " Well look at that. Guess we gotta go. Our first class is starting soon. Talk later? " She said and headed up the stairs " We can talk more about this. If you want "
She made her up the stairs
" Look at you making friends. Won't be long till she knows your true powers " Vextra exclaimed to her
" Hopefully never! " She said to Vextra

Asa watched Sooyoung, surprised by the genuine offer of friendship. She smiled faintly, her voice quiet but appreciative. “Thanks, Sooyoung. I... I’ll keep that in mind.”
She hesitated for a moment, looking at the stairs as Sooyoung started to head up. “Yeah, I’d like that... maybe we can talk later.”
As Sooyoung moved away, Asa felt a strange sense of warmth. She stood there for a moment, taking in the offer of friendship before heading toward the stairs herself, feeling a little more hopeful than before.

Sooyoung, for the first time, in like, ever, Had a friend she can count on and be there for. She felt happy and excited. But she also had this sense of fear, that if one day, what if Asa wouldnt want to be friend because of...her true power? Sooyoung shook off that thought and made her to her first class.
She got to the classroom door and took a couple breaths " You got this. Only first year in this class. So what? You got this! You can do this! " She said to herself.
She opened the door and slowly walked into the classroom
She felt the stairs of the students as she made her way to the front. She stood there and looked down
" Alright introduce yourself " The teacher said
" M-My name is Sooyoung and I am a first year. I moved from Korea to Japan when i was 10. I am 17 years old. I hope we can be friends "
The teacher smiled " Great! You can take a seat now "
She nodded and sat in the way back. she sat down and looked out the window
" People are staring Sooyoung " Vextra said
" I know. Maybe the know..." Sooyoung said
" But how? No one else should know but those who are dragons like us " She said to her
" Vextra! I dont know! But ill figure it out if they do know "
" Okay if you say so " Vextra said then disappeared for now

Asa sat quietly in class, trying to focus on the teacher’s lecture, but Yoru’s voice kept droning in her head.
"This is so boring. You could turn that desk into a weapon, you know. Shake things up a little."
Asa sighed softly, resting her chin on her hand. "Can you be quiet for five minutes?" she muttered under her breath, hoping no one noticed.
Yoru scoffed. "Five minutes? You wound me, Asa."
Asa rolled her eyes and tried to tune Yoru out, scribbling notes as the lesson dragged on.Asa felt a sudden chill crawl up her spine as her vision blurred. Before she could react, a sharp pressure overtook her mind, and her body stiffened.
"Tch. Finally," Yoru muttered, rolling her shoulders as she took control. She stretched her fingers, glancing around the classroom with a smirk. The subtle shift in Asa’s body language was noticeable—her once timid posture was replaced with a confident, almost predatory stance.
A few students nearby glanced her way, sensing something was off. Yoru huffed, running a hand through her hair. "Ugh, sitting in class all day is a waste of time," she muttered, her voice laced with irritation.
She lifted her hand to her face, brushing her fingers over the faint scar above her nose and along her cheek. “Hmph. Guess this body isn’t completely useless,” she mused, her red eyes flickering with amusement.
A mischievous grin spread across her lips as she glanced toward the teacher. "Maybe I should shake things up a little." Yoru smirked, twirling a pencil between her fingers before effortlessly transforming it into a sleek, sharp spear.
A nearby student gasped, eyes widening. Yoru glanced at them with a smirk. “Something wrong?” she asked casually, resting the spear on her shoulder.
The teacher remained oblivious, droning on with the lesson. Yoru spun the spear in her hand, chuckling. "Now... what to do with this?"

In class, Sooyoung was taking notes on the teachers lecture. She was the type to be prepare and study. She wanted to all good grades. She felt a slight pain in her head. She winced
" Vextra! Stop that! " She said. A few students looked at her and gave her a weird look
" Why? Class is boring. Like always. why not use a little magic and turn these students into pigs? or maybe turn the teacher into a hairy beast? You know, make class more interesting? " Vextra said
" How about no? These students are my classmates and that is my teacher. ABSOLUTELY NOT VEXTRA! and besides, im not getting in trouble because of you. Again "
Vextra sighed and scoffed. An evil an idea popped into her head and she smirked.
Sooyoung felt more of a pain sharpness in her head then suddenly her eyes were a deepish bright blue. A smirk played along her face. One by one, she raised her hand and turned each student into a pig. She shuckled
" Not so boring now eh? " Vextra had said
The teacher was shocked " What in heavens name- "
She turned the teacher into a hairy beast and laughed

Yoru smirked and, without hesitation, hurled the spear. It whizzed past the teacher, embedding itself into the board with a sharp thunk.
The class fell silent. The teacher’s face turned red with anger. “Mitaka! What do you think you’re doing?!”
Yoru leaned back in her seat, unimpressed. “Relax, it’s just a little fun,” she scoffed, crossing her arms. She glanced around at the shocked students. “What? Never seen someone with actual talent before?”
Murmurs spread through the room. The teacher clenched their fists. “Detention. Now.”Yoru huffed, slouching back in her chair. "Tch. Fine, I’m done here anyway," she muttered.
In an instant, Asa felt control snap back to her. Her vision cleared, and a wave of dread washed over her as she realized what had just happened.
She stiffened under the teacher’s furious glare, her classmates still staring in shock. Her face paled. What did Yoru do?!
"Mitaka! Office. Now," the teacher snapped.
Asa swallowed hard, gripping her desk. Great... just great.

Sooyoung looked at him " But- " She said
