She shot a look at Hange with her arms crossed " It's always good to know where you stand. And I know being here is the right thing " She said to them. She chuckled " And I'm glad you find our little bickering fun to watch " She looked over at the kids younger than her " I hope they keep in mind what I said thought "

She looked at Levi again " I can tell how committed he is. He has the hard-headed seriousness to him. He seems like he knows what to do. How it may end up with these kids if they don't start getting it together. I have to admit, I like the type of person Levi is. Strong, Hard-headed, committed. Thats something worthwhile in a good partner to fight alongside " She said to Hange. She stopped herself then looked down, embarrassed a little bit, flustered at what she just said

She then shook her head and looked at Levi then chuckled a little

Hange smiled brightly at Liora, clearly appreciating her spirit. "Absolutely! I think you fit right in here. You’ve got the right mindset, and that’s exactly what the Survey Corps needs." They glanced at Levi, who was still maintaining his usual stoic expression. "And hey, a little bickering never hurt anyone, right? Keeps things interesting around here."Hange chuckled again, "Honestly, though, it’s refreshing to see someone who isn’t afraid to speak their mind with Levi. It’s a rare skill, believe me." They gave Levi a teasing glance. "Keeps him on his toes, that’s for sure."

Levi just sighed, clearly used to this by now, but not giving in to the amusement. "Can we get back to the training? I'm not here to be part of your little comedy show."

" I am glad to be here. Trust me. Being here means a lot to me. It makes me who I am. Makes me feel closer to my dad too " She said. She then laughed again " And I promise I'll try to keep Mr. Captain over there on his toes. I'll see if i can make him smile. Trust me " She said. She then looked at Levi and nodded " Alright. Hold your horses Mr. Captain " She grabbed her sword and ran back over there.

She stood in the middle of the ground and breathed in and out. She went back to stretching. After. She picked up her sword and held it up. She began making more swift moments. She acted like there were training partners Infront of her. Then she became more serious. She got into a very precise defense stance. Only the best would know. She started to swiftly move from angle to angle, side to side, up and down, Acting like there titans in front of her. She had a look of fire and determination in her eyes. Confidence even

Levi stood with his arms crossed, observing Liora as she trained. His gaze was sharp, not giving away much, but there was a slight flicker of appreciation in his eyes as she displayed her skills. It wasn’t easy to impress him, but Liora’s movements had a certain fluidity and focus that caught his attention. His lips pressed into a thin line, though the faintest hint of approval seemed to cross his face.

Hange, on the other hand, was watching with an enthusiastic smile, clearly enjoying the scene. "You’re really giving him a run for his money, Liora!" Hange called out, their voice full of amusement. "I can tell Levi’s impressed... even if he won’t admit it!"

Levi glanced at Hange briefly, clearly unimpressed by their teasing, but his attention quickly returned to Liora as she moved with precision and control. "She’s got talent," he muttered, his voice low but with a hint of respect.

Hange grinned at the comment. "Told you so. She’s definitely got what it takes."

Levi just gave a nonchalant shrug, but there was something in his demeanor that said maybe, just maybe, he was starting to respect this new recruit.

She stopped after a while. She managed to train for a good 60 minutes or so. Longer than before. She ran to Hange and Levi. She noticed Levi looking at her and smiled. She could tell he was starting appreciate and approve of her. She couldn't help but smile. She grabbed some water.

She went over to Hange and chuckled " Am i really though Hange? Levi is probably better than me even though I can last longer " She said, Looking at Levi " did you see the way he looked at me? " She said " You could tell he was Impressed. You are right too " She said " He is very easy to read too. At least for me he is " She said. She couldn't here him say that she has talent but she thinks she may or may not have a decent chance on making him smile " I'm just happy he can show that he is impressed " She said

She walked to Levi and laughed " So Mr. Captain? How was that? " She asked him " Saw you stare at me the whole time " She said, smiling

Levi watched Liora approach with a cool expression, his arms crossed as always. His posture was stiff, but there was a hint of acknowledgment in his eyes. He looked up at her, his gaze unwavering. "You did well," he said, his tone as neutral as ever. "But don’t get too comfortable. This is just the beginning."

He paused, his sharp eyes glancing over her with a slight flicker of respect. "You’ve got the stamina, but it’s not just about lasting longer. It’s about knowing when to act and when to hold back. And you’ll need to keep improving."

As Liora playfully teased him about staring, Levi’s gaze didn’t waver. He gave her a small, flat stare but made no move to acknowledge the comment further. "I don’t ‘stare,’” he muttered, though there was a slight, unnoticeable shift in his expression that hinted at an emotion he wasn’t letting show. He might’ve been getting used to her antics, or maybe, just maybe, there was something more behind the hard exterior he showed.

Hange, watching the interaction with a smirk, chimed in. "Levi's still got his usual ‘Mr. Grumpy’ look on, but I can tell you're getting to him," they teased, clearly enjoying the dynamic between the two. "You’re making progress! Just keep pushing his buttons like that, and you might get him to smile one day."

Levi, hearing Hange, gave them a sharp glance. "Don’t start," he grumbled, though it was clear he didn’t mind it as much as he let on.

Hange just laughed, leaning toward Liora. "He’s tiny, but tough. Don’t let his height fool you." Levi’s gaze sharpened as Hange teased him about his height. His lips barely moved, but there was a noticeable shift in his demeanor. Without warning, he stepped toward Hange, his expression unamused.

Hange let out a surprised yelp as Levi quickly reached up and tugged on their hair, his fingers grabbing a handful with precision. "Don't start," he muttered, his voice low and threatening, though there was still no real malice behind it.

Hange laughed, not fazed at all by the playful tug. "You’re just too easy to mess with, Levi!" they grinned, brushing a hand through their hair to adjust it. "But hey, I think Liora here might have finally cracked the tough exterior!"

She chuckled and crossed her arms. She looked at him " Thanks Mr. Captain " She said. She then rubbed the back of her head " Cool down a little. I know. I will need to prove myself more and keep improving " She whispered in his ear " If i want you to like me " She said and smiled " Whatever you got for me, I can handle " She said

" I learned to keep with my stamina. I can keep my balance and last long. But i know its not about just that. I know when to act and when not. I know when to hold back or not. I just need to keep proving to you " She looked at him " And trust me...I will " She smiled again and walked away. She looked at Levi again " Oh about the staring, Yes you were staring at me. with a look of respect actually " She said then walked away

She looked at Hange and chuckled at his comment " He is a tad bit taller than me but I think I have more of a chance to make him smile " She said to him softly. She looked over at Levi, still talking to Hange " He is very admirable. Like i said, committed. very committed. But easy to read. I like it " She said and walked away

Hange couldn’t help but smile as they watched Liora walk away. "You’re really making him think, huh?" they said with a laugh, looking back at Levi, who was still glaring slightly at the back of Liora’s head.

Levi rolled his eyes at Hange's comment. "Don't get any ideas," he muttered, though there was a subtle shift in his posture that suggested he wasn’t as annoyed as he let on.

"I can handle it," Hange replied casually, a teasing grin on their face. They turned their attention back to Liora, who was walking away. "You’ve got the right attitude. She’s got potential, Levi."

Levi shot them a quick look, his short stature still barely reaching Hange's shoulder as he adjusted his stance. "She’s persistent, I’ll give her that," he said, his tone still gruff. He wasn’t about to admit it outright, but the idea of Liora’s energy and determination was starting to grow on him.

Hange chuckled, knowing Levi’s soft spot for anyone who was relentless in their efforts. "Well, she might just end up being a challenge for you, Mr. Captain."

Levi grumbled under his breath but didn’t respond further, already turning his attention to the next recruit coming up to train.

She walked back into the hallway she was in before, with all the photos. She looked at the one on the right again, and ran her fingers a long it " I miss you father " She said " You were a great Survey Corps member. The best dad too " She said, getting tears. She shook her head and ran back to the training room and stood by Hange and Levi, watching. She was watching the other recruits

She sighed and looked up " Their balance and the lack of focus isn't there. In order to move swiftly, you got to know where your enemies are coming from. You got to know the timing that they will attack you at " She said " You have to keep a focus mind " She said

She pointed to one kid on the left " Him " She said " That Kid right there " She said " I may not be a captain or whatever, but i see potential don't you Levi...I mean Mr. Captain? " She asked him, Looking at Levi " He just needs to keep improving himself "

Levi glanced at the recruit Liora pointed out, his eyes scanning the kid's movements. He said nothing for a moment, simply assessing the situation. After a short pause, he looked back at Liora, his expression as neutral as ever.

"Potential, huh?" Levi muttered, his arms crossed. "Maybe. But everyone has potential. It’s about whether they can refine it. I’ll keep an eye on him." Levi’s eyes narrowed slightly as Liora called him “Mr. Captain” again. His usual cold expression darkened, and he gave her a sharp look, his voice cool but with an edge of irritation.

“I told you, don’t call me that,” Levi said, his tone clipped. “It’s Captain. Or Levi. Not ‘Mr. Captain.’”

He turned his attention back to the recruit she pointed out, clearly trying to shift the focus away from Liora's teasing. His annoyance was evident, but he didn’t make a big scene of it, keeping his posture as stiff and neutral as always.

She looked Levi then back at the kid. She sighed " I mean. Yea sure. Everyone has potential but you have to admit though. There is always this one person who has the greatest amount of potential apart from the rest, Levi " She said.

She patted his shoulder and smiled " You are focused on the kid now but apart from the nickname " She said, looking at him. She whispered in his ear " It's a nickname only I can call you...." She said then backed up and looked at the kid again, smiling a little

Levi tensed slightly when Liora patted his shoulder, his sharp eyes flicking to her hand before she pulled away. His jaw tightened at her whisper, and he let out a quiet, irritated sigh.

“Tch. Do whatever you want,” he muttered, clearly not thrilled but deciding it wasn’t worth the argument. His focus shifted back to the recruit, arms crossed as he watched.

“Potential means nothing if they don’t put in the work,” he said flatly. “We’ll see if he actually improves.”

Despite his usual indifferent tone, there was a small flicker of acknowledgment in his expression. He knew talent when he saw it—both in the recruit and in Liora. But he wasn’t going to say that out loud.

She laughed a little " Levi. You need to stop being so serious all the time " She stiffened a little " Don't get me wrong, The commitment and seriousness of be a Survey Corps is a good look for you. And I like it. But--when was the last time you, you know, smiled? You seem to always show a stern look " She said " Like you don't show emotion that much "

She gulped " I mean you probably have your reasons and as a person and member, I hope, I would respect the fact that it's probably not my business and if you don't wanna say, you don't have too. Have you thought about opening up to someone? A peer? If you do want to, I'm always available" She said

She looked over at Hange and nodded. She then patted his shoulder again and walked out the room, outside and crossed her arms. She sighs

As Liora walked out, Levi let out a small huff, shaking his head. “She talks too much,” he muttered under his breath.

Hange smirked, crossing their arms. “Oh? I think she’s got a point, though. You are pretty serious all the time.”

Levi shot them a sharp look. “That’s because someone has to be.”

Hange chuckled. “Yeah, yeah, but it wouldn’t kill you to lighten up every once in a while. She’s got a lot of fire in her, doesn’t she? Reminds me of someone.”

Levi exhaled through his nose, gaze lingering on the door Liora had just left through. “She’s determined. That’s good. But she still has a lot to learn.”

Hange nudged him playfully. “And maybe you have something to learn too. Like, I don’t know—how to smile?”

Levi scowled, swatting their arm away. “Shut up.”

She was still outside, all by herself. It was the perfect time to think. She sat down on the ground, against the building. She sighs

She looked up at the sky and smiled " Oh father! I miss you dearly " She said, getting tears " I met the Survey Corps captain. His name is Levi " She said to the sky " Reminds me a lot like you. Stubborn and committed. But yet always seemed to keep a smile even if you were so stern and serious " She said

She sighed and looked across the field " Oh father. Why does Levi always keep that stern look? Why does he have to be serious? I know it can't be just for work " She said

" he must have something else building up inside. He just, doesn't know how to express it " She said " I am one of his peers. He should open up when he feels like. I..." She looks up again " I feel like...He is has his own reasons for not smiling. I'm sure he used too...."

Levi remained inside, unaware of Liora’s quiet conversation with the sky. Instead, he stood near Hange, arms crossed, his gaze lingering on the recruits still training. His mind wasn’t on them, though. It had drifted elsewhere—back to the past.

It wasn’t the first time someone had questioned why he never smiled. It wasn’t the first time someone thought he should open up. But it wasn’t that simple.

Isabel and Farlan.

Their faces flickered in his mind, clear as day. The way Isabel always grinned despite everything. The way Farlan had tried to keep them grounded. They had trusted him. Followed him. And in the end, they had died.

Levi’s fingers curled slightly against his arms.

Smiling doesn’t bring back the dead.

He pushed the thought away, exhaling quietly. There was no use thinking about it now. The past was the past. All that mattered was the fight ahead.

“Tch,” he muttered, shaking his head before turning back to watch the recruits.

Liora continued looking up at the night sky " Father. If only you hadn't gone out that day, those stupid Titans wouldn't have killed you! " she said. Her mind went back to the day...her parents were killed. Her siblings too.

Liora was outside, like she used to be. Enjoying the sun. When suddenly, chaos emerged within the village. They were being attacked by Titans. Everyone was screaming and yelling. The Survey Corps were in the midst of trying to help. Since her dad was part of the corps, he needed to help. Her dad ran off to help...only to be killed by Titans the moment he appeared to help

As for her mom and siblings, the titans ambushed their home, killing them. But Liora was the only one able to escape. She managed to run away. She was only 14 at the time. She trained years and years by herself, fending for herself. She never had someone before. Never had friends. She only counted on her family...who was now gone.

When she joined the corps, she vowed to always protect everyone, so no one ended up like she did. And she vowed to kill every single titan, with only her sword in hand, for the murder of her family

Liora had tears coming out of her eyes as she continued to look up at the sky " I'm sure Levi used to smile before dad...." she said " And....I miss yours " She sighs. She got up and headed back inside. She stood against the wall near Hange, unaware that she forget to wipe her tears away

Levi stood there, hands shoved into his pockets, looking down at her with that same unreadable expression. His sharp gray eyes studied her for a moment before he spoke.

“Tch. Sitting around talking to the sky isn’t gonna make you stronger.”

His tone was flat, but there was no real bite to it. He wasn’t scolding her—just making an observation.

He looked away briefly, as if debating whether to say more, then exhaled through his nose. “You were talking about me, weren’t you?”

It wasn’t really a question. He already knew the answer.

She stood there and looked away. She was pretty sure Levi knew she was talking about him. And talking to the sky, She didn't care what he thought about that

" So what if I do? At least I express my feelings. You can't do that even if it will help you " She walked him " Sometimes opening up to someone is better than keep stuff buried deep in. Whatever is going on inside, open up. You will feel better. I should know. I know what it is like. I been there " She said

She turned around and sighed " And to answer if I was talking about you, Yea. I was. " she said and stood by Hange again

Hange raised an eyebrow, watching the exchange between Liora and Levi with clear amusement. They leaned in slightly toward Levi, smirking.

“She’s got a point, y’know,” they teased. “Bottling things up isn’t exactly the healthiest way to live. Not that I’d expect you to take emotional advice from anyone.” Their tone shifted slightly, less teasing and more thoughtful. “Losing people…it changes you. And Levi’s lost a lot.” They glanced at Levi, their expression softening just a little. “His squad, his old comrades—Isabel, Furlan. They were like family to him.” Hange turned back to Liora, crossing their arms. “So, if you’re waiting for Levi to open up and start pouring his heart out, good luck. But…” They gave her a knowing look. “If he’s even standing here, listening to you, that means something.”
