I've noticed that the majority of people roleplay in fantasy/sci-fi/supernatural genres most of the time. Do most people roleplay there, or do they roleplay in many different types? Also, do some people find that they can roleplay better in some genres as opposed to other?
I almost exclusively play high fantasy While I have had the odd sci-fi character in the past, I always tend to gravitate back to fantasy. I probably could play other genres to the same quality as I do fantasy, but it's more a matter of motivation than much else.
I find that the majority of people are in the fantasy section, of one sort or another. But I think that's the general rule of most places (outside of specialty forums, ofc). I guess it's easier to make-up / bend the rules for fantasy RPs than it is for other genres? Not sure
Personally I've never had much preference for a given genre, nor much of a problem with switching between genres, as long as I can figure the rules out (on my own or with the OP's help). And tastes seem to change with time; used to be all about the fantasies, but last few years I've wanted to delve more into sci-fi or cyberpunk, which unfortunately don't get as much attention as the more "common" ones (high fantasy, dark fantasy, modern fantasy, etc). Never been much for supernatural, unless it involves something other than the trifecta of overused critters (zmobie/tharewolf/vapmier)

I mostly do fantasy roleplays, but I do dabble in some pokemon and occasionally modern rp/light sci-fi, if the plot is good.
I properly could do every genre, but I have to create a character for that genre. All my characters are basically modern day characters because that's the best setting for them. The problem is that its hard to find other characters who could work well as a roleplay with them.
I personally stick to sci-fi and 'modern/general' I've learned over time that fantasy just isn't my cup of coffee. Honestly, sci-fi is my main choice of setting. That and with sci-fi you (normally) can't go and do something and explain it away as magic or the like and that be it. sci-fi generally has a reason for something happening.
oh, you disappear? cloaking field, though you or your ship still emit Some detectable heat etc. so I guess to me since sci-fi tech normally has some background as to why something can do something...I find it easier to control/cut down on god modders etc.
