Corvina laughed quietly, trying not to wake Zander up. He didn't. He just kept right on sleeping and making a little noise that sounded a bit like snoring. "Yeah, just like a baby is exactly how I'd describe it. He was a baby when I found him. So little. I guess he kinda thinks of me as his mom." She looked sternly at Rayner. "That means I'm going to have to set some guidelines for you dating my child. You have to bring him back before curfew and you can't leave town. And you two can't be alone in either of your bedrooms, or any room with a bed." She grinned.
Soon enough, they were in front of her house. "Here we are, home sweet home." She turned to looked at Rayner. Zander shifted slightly in her arms but stayed asleep. "Thank you...for everything." Before she could let herself chicken out, Corvina stood up on her tiptoes and kissed him on the cheek. It was quick and she was blushing when she stepped away. "Good night Rayner." She said before hurrying inside."

((Wow, you're up pretty late tonight.))
"Hary har har har!" Rayner rolled his eyes at her guidelines. He then leaned in to her ear and whispers, "You can't stop us from loving each other!" he smirked and stood back up straight. When they were in front of her house he walked up to her door and stood there calmly. He was about to ask her where he should put her dad's climbing gear when she kissed him on the cheek and soon she was gone.
"Uh...night?" He said but she was already inside. He stood there, somewhat dumbfounded but his body was already turning away and heading in the direction of his place. His mind was racing though. Did she just... he was thinking but he couldn't allow himself to think more of it. But allowing and forcing his brain to stop are two different things. The pace of his steps started off slow and soon quicken before he was running down the sidewalk.
He reached his apartment complex and soon climbed the series of stairs before landing on his floor. He opened his door and dropped the bag, the door closing behind him bringing him back to reality. He analyzed what happened again and soon sighed, closing the door behind him. His mind was too exhausted to actually think about what just happened between him and his friend.
Soon enough Rayner found himself laying in bed and falling into slumber out of exhaustion.
The morning came almost too soon and the sunlight seeping through Rayner's window caused his blue eyes to wince. He sighed and rolled over, wanting very badly to go back to sleep. His body was still tired though not sore like most normal people. He opened his eyes when he realized that he was laying on something hard and soon saw the handgun from the cave. He quickly sat up and placed the gun on his nightstand instead, making sure the safety was on while he was at it.
Sitting up in his bed, he rubbed his eyes. "I need coffee..." he said in his groggy morning voice. He was about to leap out of bed when his phone started to vibrate and made some noises. He picked up the phone and stared at the new emails he had just received and soon closed his eyes again, putting the phone aside and tossing the blankets aside.
Rayner then went through his usual morning routine and soon found himself in his kitchen with a bowl of cereal in front of him and the news on.
And now the P.D. is currently looking for the two suspects. If anyone has any information in regards to these two, please contact your local authorities right away. Now we go to Jen with our 5 day forecast, Jen!
The news report showed a picture of Sam - whom Rayner recognized almost right away and a picture of a woman that he did not recognize but could have swore he had seen around the town. He finished his cereal, washed the bowl, and grabbed his phone.
He started to type out a message to Corvina:
Hey, you down to go back today? If not, it's cool. We can take a break. Let me know! (I'm sure you're sick of me anyways)
And sent.

((Yeah I really probably should go to bed, but I'm too excited with this (and another) RP))
Corvina leaned back against the door as soon as she'd come in, breathing like she'd just gone running. She peeked out the window and saw Rayner walking home. Her heart was racing. Jeesh, calm down! It was just a kiss on the cheek! Not like it was a kiss on the... She couldn't even bring herself to finish that thought. This was ridiculous! Rayner was her friend. It was ok to kiss friends on the cheek! Corvina could feel the redness of her face and forced herself to put away all thoughts of kisses.
Zander stirred a little and opened one eye to look up at her. He seemed to be wondering what she was all worked up about. "Oh, it's nothing." She said to him as she walked to her room. "Nothing you'd be interested in anyways." She peeked in her dad's room on the way, but it didn't seem like he was home yet. Normally she'd wait for him, but she was so tired. She went to her room and plopped onto the bed. Zander walked over to her pillow and promptly curled up, going back to sleep. Corvina scratched his ear and yawned. "I guess I'm your competition now, huh?" She quickly fell asleep next to him.
((Hehe I don't know how to do that line ))
Corvina woke up and looked around groggily, confused as to why she was still in regular clothes and not pajamas. Zander was already awake and gone. No surprise there. She jumped up and took a shower, getting rid of all the dirt and dust of yesterday. She brushed her teeth and almost ran to the kitchen. Her dad was at the dining room table with a mug of coffee and pancakes. There were two other plates, one smaller and covered with peanut butter. Which Zander was digging into.
"Good morning Sunshine. You're up later than usual. Did you have fun yesterday?" He asked her as she sat down at her plate of pancakes. "Well, yes I did." She bit her lip, considering how much she could tell him. "My friend and I hiked up to this waterfall just outside of town. We used some hiking equipment to climb up to this little cave and--Dad are you all right?" She asked concerned. He had suddenly grown pale.
"How far did you go in?" She was surprised by his question. She certainly hadn't been expecting it. He passed a hand over his face. "All the way, of course. You're to curious to do anything else." He sighed, sounding tired. "I had hoped you could live ignorant of this, but there's no avoiding this now." He started talking to her for a long time. She ignored her pancakes, which Zander eventually snuck over and ate.
"I know you won't be satisfied until you know everything, and there are many things I simply can't tell you because I don't know them. But it's time the truth was found out." Suddenly, she felt her phone vibrate. She glanced down at it and saw Rayner's name. "Your friend?" She nodded. "And he is able to protect you?" She thought of Rayner, holding the gun yesterday without doubt and nodded again. Her dad seemed to sigh in relief. "Wish I could go myself."
She texted back to Rayner Definitely ready! (Even though I've been throwing up all night from how sick I am of you)

Rayner looked down at his phone and smirked. It was a good line! Good enough for Rayner to almost applause her out loud alone in his apartment. But the thoughts of the kiss form the night before caused Rayner to not. He decided instead to brush it off.
Are you sure it wasn't the burger? Rayner sent and soon placed the phone in his pocket.
He soon began to gather up the supplies he thought they needed - from common tools, to a few electronic stuff, and of course - the gun. Rayner held the gun in his hand and opened up the chamber. There were still several bullets in it. His eyes narrowed as his brain tried to remember something that he wasn't even sure was real or not. He slipped the chamber back into the gun and slipped it underneath the waistband of his shorts.
Looking down near the front of his door he saw the backpack filled with climbing supplies from the other day and whipped out his phone again.
Btw, I still have your dad's climbing stuff, would you like me to drop it off? he sent.

Corvina went back to her room to get ready, carrying another full Zander. "If you keep this up you'll get fat and you won't be as cute." He looked at her and blinked, holding her gaze. "Yeah, you're right. You'd probably still be cute as a little chubby fox." She pet his head and set him down on the bed. He curled up and made an adorable little tired fox sound before resting his head on his tail and closing his eyes.
She smiled at the text he sent back and started typing. See, that's what I thought at first, but being around you always makes me a little queasy. She paused. Ok, that was a little too close too the truth. She hit the backspace button and edited it. In the middle, she received another text from Rayner. She'd completely forgotten about the hiking gear! You're right about that, thanks for taking me last night! I can wait over here for you and then we can walk there together. See you soon!

Sure thing, omw. he hit send and picked up the two bags.
The great thing was, Corvina didn't live too far from him. After walking a few blocks, he arrived to her place in no time. He took a few quick steps up to her front door and rang the doorbell. While he waited, his eyes scanned the area, taking every detail in of her front porch. It had looked quite different in the daylight verus how it did last night when he walked her home - then again he didn't get the chance to look at her house last night.
This brought his thoughts back to when she kissed his cheek and though his expression was normal and almost emotionless, his brain was rushing again, analyzing the situation. He thought about everything that happened leaning up to the kiss and concluded that she kissed him out of appreciation for his friendship. "Yeah...what else could it be?" he said to himself very softly. What else could it possibly be?

Corvina sat down on her bed, jostling Zander back awake. He made an irritated noise and rolled over. "Sorry buddy." She whispered and pet his side. His fur was still a little dusty from the day before, though since they were going back again today she didn't see much point in washing him. It took quite a bit of work to bathe Zander after all. She found herself looking in the mirror and looked away. Jeesh what was wrong with her?? It was just Rayner.
Corvina jumped up when she heard the doorbell. He'd gotten here quickly. She walked to the door and opened it, just in time to catch part of what he was saying. "What else could what be?" She looked at him curiously before remembering her manners. "Oh, sorry. Would you like to come inside?" She opened the door wider and stood to the side.

"Oh hey!" He said snapping back into reality. He smiled and somewhat stepped back a bit. "Uh...sure?" He laughed. "Thank you." He said stepping into the house. He stood there in the entry way, looking around a bit before turning around and faced her. He held out the heavy pack with the climbing gear out to her. "Where would you like me to put these?" he asked, standing there calmly.
Corvina smiled. Rayner seemed far away for a moment. Her dad peeked his head around the corner. "Hey Dad this is Rayner." He looked at Corvina, then Rayner, then back at her. Then he sighed. "Well, there's only one thing I need to say to him...don't break my little grandfox's heart." He said as he walked out fully into the hall, one hand on his hip and the other holding an inquisitive Zander. Of course, as soon as he saw Rayner he jumped down with a bark and padded over to him. Her dad laughed. Corvina smiled and took Rayner by the arm. "It goes in the shed." She led him through the back door and into the backyard, littered with toys and the little kiddie pool Zander would splash about in. In one corner was a shed painted a shade of blue that was starting to fade. She opened the door to let themselves in. There were various gardening and mechanics tools on the walls or in the cabinet. On one wall was two hooks. A pack identical to the one Rayner was holding hung on one of them.
Rayner smirked when he heard Corvina's dad's comment. The old man has a sense of humor. He could see where his daughter had gotten it from. When Zander moved closer to him, Rayner knelt down to pet his furry friend and picked him up. "Don't worry sir, I'll love him for the rest of my life..." he said, jokingly. He held Zander up to his face and laughed staring into his eyes before placing him down on the floor. He took a step forward and held out his hand to her father. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Ginaldi," he said and shook the older man's hand. Rayner was never the one to forget manners.
Before he could talk to her father any longer, he felt Corvina's hand on his arm and nodded. He followed her into the backyard. He looked around and observed the the toys and things that were scattered about. "Nice place you got here" he said, speaking what was on his mind. Though he had found most houses he had the pleasure of visiting to be quite nice, there was something about the Ginaldi House that felt comfy. Maybe it was just the fact that he never had a home to himself that made him feel this way.
He entered the shed with Corvina and saw the hooks and the bag. He smirked and soon held up the bag against the wall. "With my deduction, I believe this goes here" he said and hung it up. He stepped back and looked down at Corvina. "So..." he started to say with a slight smile upon his face. "Nice collection of saws and other sharp objects you got back here," he said, his blue eyes scanning the area. "Did you bring me back here to murder me?" he joked.

Corvina's father smiled as he watched the two of them going out the back door, Zander trailing behind. The boy seemed decent at least. And from what Corvina had told him, Rayner was very trustworthy indeed. He'd been worried for a while about his daughter. She always seemed to be more interested in taking care with Zander than spending time playing with other children her age. It seemed she'd found someone after all though.
Corvina laughed. "Way to go Sherlock, another case closed. Though whether or not I'm going to kill you is still being decided." She said this with a gleam in her eyes and she pulled out a screwdriver from behind her back. It had been the first thing she'd grabbed from behind her. "Mwahahaha!" Her "evil" laughter dissolved into giggles and she turned around to put the screwdriver back.
She was suddenly aware of the fact that she was in a fairly small space with Rayner. The kiss the night before popped back into her head and she blushed. "Well, we should get going now then." She turned back around to go out the door and, not seeing Zander on the floor, tripped over him and fell forward. Luckily, it wasn't onto anything sharp. Nope, it was Rayner's chest she face planted into.

He chuckled when she pulled the screwdriver out. As his father had told him time and time again, anything can be used as a weapon. If he was about to grab something of his own when Corvina started to walk out of the shed. He stepped out first, making sure to step over Zander before turning around to see her through.
Rayner was able to catch Corvina pretty easily, and she was light so he didn't fall over. His hands held on to her arms. "Whoa there..." he said and laughed. Took a small step back, yet still holding on to her arms. "You alright there?" he asked her. "I know I'm pretty handsome and that you're falling for me, but you gotta remember - I'm with Zander now," he teased her - not once considering the fact that she kissed him the night before.
"And your father gave me instruction on not breaking his heart..." he laughed. He then released her arms after helping her stable herself and reached down to brush her hair away from her face. "But seriously, you alright? Think you can make it through another day hiking?" he asked.

Zander stood up and looked rather disgruntled at being tripped over. He jumped outside the door, somewhat haughtily. Corvina could feel herself blushing again and she put a hand up to her nose once she'd gotten her feet back under her. "Your chest is hard." Yup, saying that didn't help her embarrassment any. She was very aware of the fact that his arms were still on her shoulders. "I-I'm fine." She bit her lip. She knew he was just joking, but she wondered if he might be right. The kiss last night popped into her head again.
"Oh we all know you're a heartbreaker, but Zander is too. I think we're just waiting on who'll be doing the heartbreaking this time."She smiled weakly. "My dad is betting on Zander." She sucked in a breath when he brushed her hair away from her face. Her heart was beating just as fast as it had after the night before. "O-of course I'll be alright! I'm stronger than I look, ya know."

Rayner let out a small laugh at her teasing. There was never a dull moment with her so far. The tone of her voice though, was different. Was she embarrassed? Nervous? Rayner wasn't quite sure. If anything he went with embarrassed. "Well, if you say so." he said and smiled at her. His phone then vibrated and Rayner took it out from his pocket. He stared at the message he had received and for a brief second, he frowned. He put his phone away and flashed Corvina a smile.
"Well my dear Watson," he started to say. "The mysteries of the laboratory aren't going to solve themselves, are you all ready to go?" He asked and waited. He wasn't too comfortable with moving about her house with his first visit there. "If you are, lead the way." He smiled and held her hand up to allow her to go before him.

Corvina saw the frown he'd had on his face when he read the message. It was gone in a flash though, replaced by his smile and it made her wonder if she'd really seen right. She didn't really get a chance to ask him about it anyways as he was already talking about leaving for the lab again. "Yeah, I'm ready." She lead him back through the house, Zander following behind, clearly playing favorites with Rayner who had not tripped over him.
She stopped to hug her dad good bye before they left. "Be careful." He said to them. "Take care of these two will ya? They're always getting into trouble." He said to Rayner as he smiled at Corvina. She'd grabbed a fox treat and was reconciling with Zander. "Hey! I heard that!" She yelled back at them. "And it's not out fault, trouble follows us." She picked up a content Zander and walked towards the front door. "Hurry up slow poke, or I'm leaving you behind!"

He followed her closely and laughed as Zander ran around him. He snuck in a few pets on the short walk back into the house and chuckled when he noticed Corvina was trying to win her pet back. He watched as Corvina hugged her father. It was hard to believe that he was dying. His face was expressionless as he watched and observed her relationship with her father.
But when Mr. Ginaldi started to speak to him, Rayner laughed. "Well, it was nice meeting you sir!" he said and adjusted his bag before making his way out of her house. He started down the street with Corvina and Zander closely behind him. He had his phone out and was looking through the pictures of the maps he had taken the other day - memorizing them quickly.
They made it back through the back way quickly and soon into the tunnel behind and back into the laboratory. Once they entered, Rayner turned on the lights. Luckily for them the generator was still working. Rayner stayed quiet as he entered, making sure it was safe before Corvina and Zander entered. He heard a few squeaks and turned to look at some rats running away from the main room. "Looks like we're clear." he announced and stepped into the room.
"I brought some things to help us today..." he said and instantly went over to one of the computers. He pulled out a small flash drive and plugged it in. In no time, the software in the drive decrypt the passwords and allowed them to log on to the old computer. The computer, as expected, ran slower than what Rayner was used to at home. "Bingo...lets see what this place really is..." he said as the screen started up - soon enough a screen popped up with the letters "BML Inc."
Rayner watched as the software began to ran and soon found himself immersed in a world of genetics and human biology mortification. He stood there, skimming through some of the research and profiles before finding some pictures on the computer. "...Looks like they were modifying people's genetics here...creating some sort of...mutant...or super humans..." he thought out loud as he browsed through the pictures.
He turned around to see Corvina and watched her reaction before reaching into his bag again and pulling out a hard drive. He began to copy all of the files over to his hard drive. "This is going to take a while...we should go explore the other areas, are you ready?" He asked, turning to her to make sure she was okay. Her little break down worried him the other day and he didn't want to put her through that again if he didn't have to.
Corvina walked down the street with Zander behind her. He didn't seem to know which one he wanted to be behind, her or Rayner. He went back and forth a few times before deciding to walk between them. She glanced over at Rayner and recognized the maps on his phone. At least one of them would know where they were going. It didn't take long to reach the lab, and soon enough they were just outside its doors.
Once Rayner had confirmed that the room was safe she went in. Zander looked curiously in the direction the rats had run, but to Corvina's relief he didn't chase after them. She'd hate to lose track of him in a place like this. She watched Rayner go to work on one of the computers. "Wow, I didn't know you were so good with computers." She found anything like that rather impressive. "Hmmm, BML. I wonder what that stands for." She came over closer and watched the screen with him. Zander came over to investigate what they were both interested in, but wasn't particularly impressed by the lit up monitor. Even if the images on it changed.
Her eyes widened as she read what was on the screen. She'd never even considered that this place might be connected to her power, but the pieces seemed to be fitting. From the few things her father was able to tell her and now to this.
She slowly put her hand into her pocket and withdrew a security card. She placed it on the desk in front of Rayner. "My dad gave this to me before you came over...we'll need this to get into most of the rooms on the bottom floor." There was a picture on the card of a woman with short brown hair and green eyes. Underneath the picture was a name. Roxanne Ginaldi. "He wasn't really able to tell me a whole lot about this place, since he was just a security guard's husband, but he kept this."

He looked at the security card in front of him. The face on it looked familiar. He held up the card next to Corvina's face. "You look like her, you know..." he said softy. He made the connections and didn't say anything further. He lowered his hand away from her face and stood up. He reached into his bag and pulled out a small pocket knife. He handed it to her. " You know, just in case. Lets go."
Rayner pushed open the door with all of the strange bodies in it. Immediately, the smell hit him but Rayner managed to keep his composure. He walked through the room, making sure to step over the bodies and bones before finding the hallway. He lead them through and stood before the staircase that lead downstairs. Rayner pulled out the gun from his waistband and two flashlights from his bag. He handed one to Corvina. The lights didn't seem to work too well - flickering on and off. Rayner just wanted to make sure that they were safe.
The rusty metal staircase creaked with each step they took. When they reached the bottom, Rayner found himself staring at a large metal door. There were claw marks on the door but it was still closed and in tact. Rayner observed the electronic panel on the right side of the door. He noticed the scanner and soon pulled out the keycard. He held it over the scanner. Red lasers appeared, running over the card. Suddenly the doors slide open slowly, creaking due to years of rust.
Once the doors opened wide, Rayner saw that it was yet another hallway - but unlike the hallways up on the main level, this one was clean, well lit, and looks it hasn't really been damaged aside from the smear of blood stains on parts of the walls and floor. He looked at the dried up splatters of blood within the well lite hallway and pointed his gun down.
"Well, it looks like someone exploded in here...or was dragged out" he observed out loud. With the way the blood stains looked on the walls and floors, Rayner couldn't help it but think that there was some sort of fight that happened in the hallway.
The hallway stretched out long, with many doors on both sides. He noticed a metal table on the side and walked up to it. There was a computer on it that was turned on with the same "BML Inc." logo on it like in the other computer. He pulled open one of the drawer and saw another gun. He pulled out of the drawer and popped open the chamber. It was still loaded. He turned around to Corvina and handed her the gun. "Just...don't shoot me, alright?" He said and offered her a small smile before looking around again.

Her eyes went to her mother's face, serious on the card. Even though she wasn't smiling like in the pictures her dad showed Corvina, she was still beautiful. "Thank you." She didn't know what else to say. She smiled when he pulled out his pocket knife to give to her. "Perfect, now I have two and I'm doubly armed. Are you sure you want to give your possible killer another weapon?" She teased.
When they had to go back through the room, she held her breath and gingerly stepped around the bodily remains. Zander followed them, keeping his tail up high. She tooked the flashlight Rayner handed her and thanked him. The overhead lights didn't look very trustworthy so it was nice to have a backup light. She shivered at the thought of being plunged suddenly into the dark in this place.
Corvina took the stairs one at a time, trying to step on the least rusty parts. Zander wasn't nearly so cautious. With his light body, he was able to run all the way down to the bottom of the stairs without a problem. She groaned to herself when she saw another metal door. She was starting to get sick of them. She was glad to see that the card worked and was able to help them though.
She stepped through the door after Rayner and Zander. She was a little surprised to see it so clean. She noted the blood stains also. Zander sniffed at them curiously. At first she thought she hoped someone had been dragged rather than exploding but that seemed kind of wrong to think that. Corvina smiled back at him when he handed her the gun. "I can't make any promises about that." She checked the safety and glanced down the sights. It felt fairly comfortable in her hand, thanks to her dad taking her out to shooting complexes.

"Well then," he started to say looking at her. "I guess I can only trust myself to live, after all, it'd be embarrassed if my life story ended with me being killed by a cute girl." he laughed, once again not thinking much of how his words could be considered "awkward" or strange. He smiled at her before turning back around and looking around yet again.
The doors that were in that hallway lead to smaller hallways - and judging from the maps that Rayner had memorized early, these were not hallways the test subjects wanted to be in. Each door that lead to a smaller hallway had a lock on it - the same one that required the cardkey to enter. It was obvious that whatever BML Inc. had down here was extremely important, especially with all of the high security down here.
Wanting to waste no time, Rayner started to walk towards the door at the end of the hallway - the one where the trail of blood lead to. He figured that if anything, this is where they should start. He walked up to the last door and pulled out the cardkey once again. He scanned it and soon he heard the locks upon the door unbolting. The door slid open and Rayner found himself in a Santize room. When the 3 of them were inside, the door behind them closed shut. Rayner quickly turned around and pointed the gun at the door but soon calmed down when a cloud of mist surrounded them.
"It's okay," He said to Corvina. "I believe this is just a sanitize room to get rid of any bacteria..." he said and stood still. In a few seconds, the mist stopped and soon the front metal doors opened. Rayner's eyes widen once he saw what was before them.
There was yet another room with glass windows similar to the ones they saw upstairs. But this one was fully intact. Test subjects were floating in tubes that were fully functioning, which lead Rayner to believe that they were still alive. The test subjects however, looked deformed. Some had large lumps on growing out of various places on their bodies, some had strange muscle growth on different muscle groups of their bodies, and some looked perfectly normal. "Whoa..." Rayner said calmly as he stepped through.
The room before the glass was a laboratory, filled with many high-tech equipment that Rayner has never seen before! He was amazed as he looked around. Though he is known for his athleticism, he enjoyed nerdy things like this - secretly. He could feel his heart beating faster and faster as he approached the large computer panels in the room and began to fiddle with him. "This...is...insane..." he said and turned around back at Corvina. "Look at these people," He motioned towards the test tubes behind the glass. "They could still be alive!" He said, turning back around at the test tubes. But then he noticed something - the trail of blood leading from the room they were in and into the other room. He looked closely and soon saw the broken test tube that had dried blood all over it. Unlike the other ones, it was completely damnaged and showed no signs of any lifeforms in it or any remains.
"Someone must have escaped..." he said calmly before pulling out yet another flashdrive. He began to hack the computer systems quickly and continued to browse through the systems.
