Kitty sighed with relief. "Great, thats good to hear." Then she could confirm everything, and plan the next steps on her journey. She just hoped whatever came wouldn't involve the wizards.
Beau's stuttered concern did not register completely with Kitty. They were outside sure, but if they were in a precarious place, their meal of rabbits and squirrels did not prove anything. Following wherever Beau's gaze went, Kitty attempted to look for any danger, but failed to find anything.
"Well we did gobble up a few rabbits, I'd be quiet too if that happened in my town." Kitty said, trying to relax Beau.

Beau stayed eerily silent, not even eluding that he'd heard Kitty's words. Without warning he stood in one sharp motion, his calm eyes turned piercing as he gazed off towards nothing but trees.
"There's another here." Beau whispered to himself, not even realizing the thoughts had turned verbal. He hadn't had time to react, not before an arrow whizzed by his ear, mere inches from his left eye.

The stillness of the thief at last convinced Kitty that perhaps the calm woods was not a normal occurrence. She jumped when Beau shot up, and gasped when she heard the thunk of an arrow behind them.
Immediately Kitty hit the ground, and scrambled for the nearest tree stump. But she didn't get far before she flew back for her parcel. She didn't dare look into the forest, or think about dodging arrows if any were firing at her.

It may have seemed foolish to rush towards the attacker, but Beau knew it was the only way. He had no long-range weapons such as the enemy's bow and arrow, but knew time was of the essence. If the arrows didn't pierce either he or Kitty soon the horses would be of aim, leaving the two of them stranded.
He raced forward, making sure not to run in a straight path; to do so would be suicide. Running in a zigzag, Beau could see arrows flying by him only feet away. Only once he saw the enemy before him, did he unshield his sword...

Holding the satchel against her chest, as if her life depended on it, Kitty raced to the horses. She had assumed Beau would have chosen to escape with her, but when she saw him go into the forest her heart turned cold.
He would be killed!
"Beau!!" She cried just as a lost arrow struck her chest. She a staggered for a moment, eyes wide, until her strength failed, and down she went.

The man was slain just as quickly as his bow had been arched. Beau's right leg and left shoulder were only grazed, thankfully, before the hidden enemy was impailed through the throat by the blonde's sword. It was only after he turned his back, certain that the foe had met his end, did he see Kitty's body sprawled across the forest floor.
"No..." he breathed out, eyes flashed with fear as he sprinted towards her, dropping the weapon and scooping her into his lap in one swift motion. "Kit-K-K-K --" 'Dammit. Breathe, just breathe.' he told himself, knowing panicking would do his tongue no good.
"Kit-Kitty. Kitty, p-please." he pleaded, slapping gently at the woman's too still face. The arrow was straight through her, and though any ounce of sense would tell the thief she was gone -- a part of him refused to believe it.

((An evil part of me would love to see Kitty proceed on her adventure with an arrow stuck in her xD ))
A soft blue light trimmed the lip of Kitty's bag, so subtle, that it was really only evident that something was happening when the arrow disappeared in a flash of light. In that same instant, Kitty's eyes shot open, and a startled cry escaped.
Quickly sitting up with the help of Beau's arm, she checked herself for a hole, only to not find one. Utterly confused, she turned to Beau and exhaled deeply.
"Gods!" she swallowed another shout. "Are you a healer among your other trades too?" Her voice trembled.

He was unable to speak, too busy gaping at Kitty as though she'd sprung an extra head -- or had miraculously risen from the dead. Beau hadn't meant to, but he jumped back, scooting his body a foot away from sheer terror.
"I -- I-I-I did noth-nothing!" Beau shouted out a gasp, the loudest his normally stoic voice had sounded all night. "You were -- w-w-were dead." he whispered, unable to keep his eyes from traveling from Kitty's face to her healed chest.

"Wha-what do you mean you didn't do anything?" She asked in a cold panic. "I was shot a-a-and I should be dead.." Kitty found herself stuttering.
Unlaying two loops of her blouse she peeked down at her stomach before realizing a little too late that it was likely inappropriate. But she had to check, and she saw nothing. There really was no hole, no trace of injury or damage -- except magic. A slight trail of a mirage, something that faintly rippled across your eyes was there. It was so hidden that even in the morning light her trained eyes could barely see it. It led to her bag, but she hesitated to move towards it.
"Are there any more of them?" She asked quietly.

"N-N-...N-No." Beau said after a small battle, knowing for a fact there was only one assassin. "Wh-What happened? You were de-dead. You heart had c-c-ceased b-b-beating." The unflappable man seemed as close to frantic as he could muster, trying to piece together how such an act was possible. The magic he'd heard of could cast spells and conjure potions; but bringing back the death was something else entirely.
"I dont know what happened!" Kitty snapped at him from frustration. "I should be dead on the forest floor and yet I dont even have a hole in my dress." she said with a shudder.
At last Kitty reached for her parcel, the magic trail now faded, and opened it. "What?" she gasped. There was nothing unusual in her bag, just the parchment, some money, herbs and traveling papers. But there had to be magic in there, and the only one she considered was the paper she had stolen from the Nine.
Lifting it from her bag, she flipped it over and over, but saw no hole. She sniffed it for magic, but did not smell anything. "For heavens sake." Kitty sighed. "Now I really have no ideas."

"Here, l-let me see." Beau demanded softly, holding out a hand for the parchment. If Kitty would allow he gripped the soft sheet within his own hands, and flipped it back and forth similarly as Kitty did. "I -- I-I don't know." he admitted, finding nothing out of the ordinary as well. By now the horses were neighing wildly, tipping back and forth in a frenzy at what had just been witnessed.
"Here, a-are you alr-r-right to stand? If you can manage it's b-best we keep on."
"Here, a-are you alr-r-right to stand? If you can manage it's b-best we keep on."
Kitty had allowed it, simply because she was shaking out the contents of her bag. Nothing, not even an arcane infused crumb. Clearly whatever that paper was, it was certainly worth her head. "I dont know either. But whatever happened it wasn't because of me, I am not able to cast such powerful magic." she said, and if Beau was willing to return the paper, her hand was extended for it.
She was scared about keeping it, feeling it might be best to burn the thing and be done with it. But since the paper was likely the only reason why she was still alive, Kitty had to keep it. Bounty or not, danger or not, that paper gave her some protection. Although, she wasn't sure if Beau was now interested in keeping such an unknown thing.
"Glad the arrows missed the horses." Kitty noted.
