Going to sleep in a warm bed and waking in a dirty alley is a shock for sure, but it was worse when Kahlan looked around. This was certainly not home and she had no idea how she got there. She didn't feel like she had been drugged. She didn't have a headache and while her pajamas were dirty, she didn't think she was dragged out here.
What the heck happened?
She stood on shaky legs, wondering what her parents would do when she made it home. The stone street was wet under her feet and was freezing. She had no idea where she was. What she would do.
She took a hold of the first stranger who came near enough, "Um, hi. Can you tell me where I am?" Why was everyone wearing so many strange clothes?

For a thief, it probably wasn't the smartest idea to always wear an easily distinguishable top hat. But, in his opinion, what he did, wasn't only about the gold, but about style, and man did he had plenty of that.
Ryoran yawned, wiping his hands with each other. The gold was safely hidden in the alley. And there was no way anyone would think to look under the remains of an old bed, or that pile of trash. With so many objects, you'd think there was barely enough space to walk through the alley. And, indeed, that's the case. The alley had a reputation of being were lost things came to appear.
The voice of a girl startled him and he whirled around. What the-? There had been no one when he just...- How? Nevermind. "Good evening, miss. Actually, this city's name has fled my mind right now, but," He smiled. "For the right price, my memory might clear."

Kahlan looked down at her pajamas. Why did he think she'd have money? Her purse was at home, along with the wallet full of, well, no money. She was broke. She had just ordered some amazing yarn online and it had taken every last penny of her savings.
"I've got nothing to give you. I just wanted a few answers." She didn't question why she understood this man, who had a strange accent. It was better she didn't question that, though, magic at this moment might blow her mind.
"If you won't answer my questions, I'll find someone else." She stood and brushed herself off, trying to look confident.

The young man was visibly disappointed. Huh, who on earth didn't carry some form of currency with them? Even beggars hardly ever went by without it! "Oh, no need to go. I only ask for a favor, you see. This, is my alley." He gestured to the space, putting a lot of emphasis in its trash place glory.
Ryoran hadn't moved an inch. He looked like the epitome of calm and collected, even though he was crazy. "And, I need you to stay right here, for let's say five minutes. If you can do that, I'll tell you the name of the city, and anything else you want to know. You seem to be lost, and in awful need of a hair brush." He nodded.

"... a favour?" Kahlan narrowed her eyes, looking at Ryoran with careful eyes.
She reached up to touch her hair, "I think I can stay here for a few minutes." She ran her fingers through the curls, trying to dislodge the tangles.
As she tried to brush her hair with her fingers, she looked around the alley. It wasn't glamorous, but if he insisted it was his, who was she to complain? It's not like she wanted it.

"That's great!" Ryoran saw her trying to fix her hair and he shook his head, instead reaching out to ruffle it. Nope, he was not one to shy away from random physical contact. "There. Much better. Now act beggar and lost. Shouldn't be too hard." He looked around, stepping away to hide behind some trash.
Kahlan tried to swat his hand away, but he pulled away too quickly. She narrowed her eyes, but instead of staying angry she just looked confused. Why the hell was he doing?
She rubbed her temples and glances around, wondering what exactly he was looking for.

Doing as little noise as possible, he hid, shielding himself with some worn fabrics. Around the corner, footsteps were audible as they approached. "There! Look in the alley!" A guard, in very fancy clothing and with a sword at the ready, walked towards Kahlan. "You! Have you seen a man running past this place?"
Kahlan blinked for a moment and then pointed past Ryoran in an attempt to keep him hidden, "He took off that way. He was running pretty quick, though. I don't know if you'll be able to catch him. He looks faster than you." Nothing like a challenge to get people going faster, eh?
The guard narrowed his too set apart eyes. "We'll see about that." He looked back at his team and waved at them. "Split! You go that way, and you, come with me!" Without sparing another glance at her, they left.
Ryoran waited a while after they'd disappeared before poking his head out. "Phew, that was close. Good job!"
