Valerie shivered pulling her sweater tighter around herself. She'd been wandering the Brooklyn streets for hours and still came up empty handed. Feeling lost, she pulled out what little money she had left and entered a small local coffee shop. She bought a warm coffee. Sitting herself by the window she watched the busy streets.
She glanced away for a brief moment.
She heard a screech and screams before crashing filled the coffee shop. She left her coffee and raced out onto the streets. She pushed through the crowd of people to the crash site. There was a man climbing out of he's demolished car.
Her mind went into overdrive as she ran to the other car trying to pry off the side door. Without even batting an eye, Valerie's hands began to glow and the door blasted off its hinges. She grabbed a woman from the front seat and laid her near the side walk.
Checking for a pulse, she put her hands on her head, and closed her eyes. The woman gasped and her eyes flew open as her body began to shake. "Shh..Shh.. you're okay.." Valerie whispered trying to calm the woman down.
People were whispering and murmuring around her. She looked around to see them staring at her. Panicked, she stood and ran.

The wizard, having already forgotten what year it was due to all the times he'd visited, was one of the few who trekked down the sidewalks on such a cold winter day. To his fortune he had a thick coat, fishing for his pocket watch to occasionally check the time even though time was always on his side whether he was on the verge of death or late for a meeting. Of course this doesn't mean he can escape death on any means, he merely has an advantage that'll spare him a few good years.
He had just been on his way to a coffee shop in attempt to warm up from this cold, but the sound of an awful crash had him halt in his steps and his eyes darted to the accident. Things like this happened and over time he found that changing anything would give of a tremendous butterfly effect, therefore he did not attempt to help, but like everyone else he simply wanted to see. What he did see brought a grin of anticipation to his lips. Yes, he was glad the woman was alright, but more so that he'd found a magic user of the time though she didn't seem that resistant under the eyes of many, including his own. It could be told whether she was using her talents out of her emotions or out of initiative. In this case it happened to be both, however the real problem was the shame that it brought her.
As expected she'd darted from the crowd and he saw no other choice than to follow though he hated running. He'd much rather climb up a mountain than waste his breath on running, but of course that isn't true either. He saw it necessary that she meet someone like him and hopefully she would take a new perspective into her magic. As of now he had to chase her and maneuver through the few people who roamed the sidewalks. "Miss!" he called out in effort to get her to stop so he could stop. The wizard was never the greatest at hunting and if she happened to disappear from his sight he doubted he would be kind enough to search for her.

She froze and turned still holding a tight grip on her sweater. "S-Stay away from me!" She shouted backing up slightly. "I-I just want to go!" She cried as tears streamed down her face. Her hands were bloodied and bruised.
"J-Just go back there." She whimpered turning again and stalking off.
"J-Just go back there." She whimpered turning again and stalking off.
The sight of her almost seemed like a reflection of himself years ago, but he could only see it as a simple phase now. This was only a time of suffering for her and now it wouldn't last long unless she strove to change her future. At this time he could only assist and by the time she tried to run off again he had placed her an illusion. A place of only white and there was nowhere for her to run to, at least nowhere she could see, and the only person in her sight was him.
"You're panicking," he called out to her, his run dying down to a walk.
"You're panicking," he called out to her, his run dying down to a walk.
She turned to him quickly raising her arms in a fighting stance. "Who are you?!" She shouted shakily. "Where are we?" She whispered looking around slightly. Her hand began to glow as they did at the scene of the crash and a blast shot out of her finger tips causing her to squeak.
His hands raised as a sign that he wasn't there to bring any harm, but even that didn't influence her and he had to quickly catch the blast she sent unintentionally. With his own magic he kept it maintained in his hands, able to feel wild aura it gave on. This only proved that she was not in control of her own talents. Managing to keep it tamed, he approached her and once close enough, held it out to her. "I do believe this is yours," his baritone sounded softly though he didn't look to be a baritone, but he was nonetheless.
She shakily watched him. "Y-you're like me.." She whispered reaching out and touching the energy, watching it dissipate. "If you're like me, you know where he is?" She said hopefully playing with her hands, wringing them together to try to calm her nerves. She felt small next to the man, but then again she was quite short for her age, and felt short next to everyone.
Once the energy had completely vanished he tugged his gloves tighter onto his hands, stretching his fingers within them. "He?" he asked with the slow tilt of his head, wondering as to who she was referring to. He took not of her fidgeting and knew that she was till trying to bring herself to a calm. The white had faded back to the streets and the world prior and they were once again two people standing on the sidewalk.
She nodded. "M-My mom...she told me that th-there was a man in New York...H-He could help me..." She whispered gripping her hands tightly. She wiped her eyes fervently. "T-That he could help me control w-whatever this is..." She whispered starring at her hands. "A-and maybe then I can go back home..."
Nelís's brow lifted in question and he ran through his memories trying to recall if he had ever revealed his powers to anyone other than another magic user, but he was sure that this man couldn't be him. "Did she get his name?" perhaps a name would be familiar and he could take her to him, but as far as he knew there was no other magic users around that he knew of.
She shook her head. "She called him The High Warlock..." She said softly shivering slightly. "Jesus..." She mumbled. "That woman sent me on a wild goose chase." She whimpered feeling her eyes fill with tears again. "What am I gonna do?" She mumbled running her hands through her hair.
As she brought forth the name he nodded in confirmation. That was indeed him though he still couldn't bring himself to recall any woman in New York who knew him by that title. His golden hues traveled down to her moistened eyes, brimming with fresh tears and shook off his coat. "You're going to learn how to control your magic," he replied as he hung the heavy coat over her shoulders. "I don't believe there is anyone else who goes by The High Warlock, but me," his fingers tugged the coat tight on her form before he heated himself with the work of his own magic.
She blinked and looked up at him. "T-Thank you.." She mumbled. "S-So you're him then?" She as she was almost swallowed up in his coat. "You can teach me?"
"I am," he glanced past her, down the road before his eyes returned to her. The night was coming quickly and he hated nothing more than being in the dark and in the cold all at once. "I don't mind teaching you," a smile plagued his lips and his hand lifted to sweep his hair from his eyes, his English accent thick on his tongue, "but of course you have to tell me your name."
She nodded, her red pony tail bouncing. "I'm Valerie Morgenstern..." She said softly playing with a ring on her finger. "S-Should I just call you, H-High Warlock then?" She mumbled.
A deep laugh erupted from his throat as he shook his head. "I would get my tongue twisted if I had to say all that," the laugh died down to a simple chuckle and he took this time to study the woman a moment. "I'd rather you call me Nelís or Mister Orlitt. Either one is fine," he assured. "It's nice to meet you Ms. Morgenstern," his head dipped in acknowledgment before asking, "Now, tell me, do you have anywhere to stay?"
She shook her head. "I was hoping I would have enough money to pay for an apartment...but I miscalculated..." She mumbled softly. "It was a rookie mistake." She gave a dry laugh and remembered how all that money was for college. Then her powers kicked in and school fell down the drain.
The wizard stared at her a brief moment, appalled. "How long have you been here?" evidently he was concerned, but also curious to as to how she managed to survive without finding a place to stay. He knew to rent any place in New York would be expensive and to her misfortune she didn't quite have enough. Even though the place was beautiful it was also loud and Nelís would retreat back to his home during the nights.
She looked down like a child caught stealing a cookie from the cookie jar. "A few days..." She quickly started up again. "B-But it wasn't bad!! I was warm, and I didn't get attacked!! nothing like what my mother said New York would be like. I only got called a bad word once!" She said rocking back and forth on her heels.
He concluded that her words were plausible enough although he was still unnerved at the thought that she had absolutely no place to stay with her few days in the city. "Alright. Then you'll be staying with me I suppose," his eyes searched for a door, any door. One to liquor store or restaurant, it hardly mattered, "but I don't want you to speak a word of it here. I don't mind if you ask questions however." In finding a door he began towards it and gestured her to follow. Upon reaching it he opened it for her and urged her to go in though it was a small candle store.
