Zaire senced the loaf in her hand and realized nothing else in the kitchen was available.
"bacon and toast..."
he smiled.
"sounds good to me!"

She smiled back and placed two pieces of toast in the toaster (after holding it upside down over a trash can and hitting it to get out the flour) next to the stove, dusted off flour on the toast nob, and pressed it down. As she worked she spoke.
"how many pieces do you want?"
She new that even if they both had one they would need at least two peices.

Zaire shrugged, stepping skillfully over the scattered metal-ware.

"i dunno. two, i guess."

his moment of happiness was quickly slipping away, leaving Zaire as he was before.

The toast popped outand Alma placed them on a plate that remained clean in the pantry. She replaced them, speaking as she worked.
"Can you get the butter and jam?"

Zaire nodded, moving to the fridge and opening it. He grabbed the butter first,put it on the table,then grabbed the jam.

The other toast popped out and she put it with the first pair. Then she took a plate and a butter knife to the table as well.
