I started writing this story, and I'm having some issues figuring out when I want it to go and how to develop the characters. If someone could give it a read and then help me out, that would be awesome! I'll post what I have so far:
It's going to be titled Derek Tusco
The longer he sat at the table, reading over the paperwork before him, the more he felt as if he settled for the boss position. He looked up as the clock struck one in the morning; he cursed and hoped that his wife would understand. She wouldn't, but he could hope, couldn't he? Pushing away from the antique desk, he turned the green lamp desk off and left his office.
He took the two flights of stairs and turned the corner in the hall only to stop dead in his tracks outside the bedroom. The door was cracked and given the hour, he knew that Marlana, his wife, should have been sleeping; however, she was fully awake and seemed to be on the phone.
"I thought we would be happy, with children and at least a dog. But all he's been doing since Vito passed away, is going over the damn bills he was left with. He doesn't come to bed until late and gets up stupid early. I doubt he'd even notice if I started having an affair."
It took a moment to register the words that had made contact with his ear. Had she really said that, or was his exhausted mind playing a cruel trick on him? Derek made a gesture to open the door and make it known that he most certainly world notice; but their marriage was still fairly new, only entering its third year. He decided that he would let her comment pass, for now, and if he had any suspicion that it was happening, he would take action - his way.
When Derek finally calmed his fraying nerves, he pushed the thick mahogany door and looked at his wife. Marlana Tusco , formly Marlana O'Grady, was an olive skinned, red hair whose lineage was that of Irish and Italian decent. Her father, a runner for the IRA had brokered a deal with the fourth-in-command of an Italian mob and became friends the man's sister. The two bosses decided to allow the two to marry and a happy result, Marlana was born.
"Hello, my handsome husband." Marlana spoke, once her eyes met Derek's dark brown eyes.
Please and Thank you in advice!
