Oliver stared blankly at the monitors in front of him, not really paying attention to that. He was more anxious for the arrival of the new girl they'd hired; this was going to be an absolute drag. But at least he didn't have to sit next to Reggie for 8+ hours anymore, working with him was like working with a 13 year old kid. Every now and then he'd swivel his chair a bit to the side to check the door even though that wouldn't tell him if someone was arriving or not, he'd be able to tell from the sound of the door simply opening. But he couldn't help it.
And that sound didn't keep him waiting for long. A few minutes would pass before the door's handle would press down, the metal door opening slowly as a new face finally popped into view. A relatively youthful one , the girl's short black hair and lively animation seemed to make it clear she still had quite a bit of energy left. No bad mornings, no being stuck in traffic. Not a bad looker either, soft features, small nose and fitting well into that uniform.
In truth she hated it. Uniforms always bugged her. Why the people around there felt the need to wear the same thing always just puzzling to her. But humanity was a curious thing, she was out there to tame it's secrets after all. And maybe this one might make the simple task of fitting into her new role interesting.
"Great. They have those slightly wibbly monitors with the one black line always blocking the good stuff." she murmured aloud as she entered, giving Oliver a rather casual but nonetheless friendly wave and a small smile.
"Hey. Am I late for the first day?"

"Hey. Am I late for the first day?"
Oliver slowly turned in his swivel chair, giving a slightly forced smile. Before speaking he took a moment to take in her appearance. She seemed a generally attractive girl, which made him wonder why she'd be working in a place like this with a guy like him. It just seemed unfitting, when you'd look at the two next to each other. Oliver looked tired and worn down, he'd also neglected shaving for a while which made him look a bit shaggy opposed as to when he was clean shaven and looked sharper. Or at least as sharp as you can look on 4 hours of sleep.
"Nope, just on time. You must be...? Sorry, they told me your name but I've got shit memory." He said, the awkward smile finally fading.

((Sorry for the late reply! Work day.))
The girl kept her smile, letting him speak. In truth she'd never asked to work with him. Not that she was complaining. When she considered what she was REALLY like, a bit of hair didn't bother her. She had a body, that was good enough for her. And a gorgeous one at that.
"I know how you feel. Faces...little easier then names, eh?" she winked to him, taking a step towards him before replying confidently.
"Kasumi. Call me Kas. You must be Oliver." she peered over at him with those thinly blue eyes of hers, peering over towards the monitors again between her glances. Something about this excited her. She was doing something NORMAL! And not just anything normal - something boring. Boring and absolutely mindnumbingly tedious. Enough to drive most normal people to suicide after several years of doing it!
For her, it was hard to imagine. Something like this was perfect for her. And this Oliver...she'd have to learn more about him. He looked like a nice enough guy...though the hair made him look like he has a woman suit back home.
Still, he seemed relatively average.

"Nice too meet you, Kas." Oliver turned back around in his swivel chair, and leaned back. "So I'm guessing they gave you some idea of what your doing here, right? When I applied, they'd give you a whole packet, but that must of been about ten years ago so it might be different. Either way, you learn that this job really isn't that hard, and the packet isn't really needed."
He kept his eyes on the monitors in front of him, not that anything was really happening. It was normally pretty dead in the morning and it wasn't until after about 3pm that things would get hectic. But sometimes there would be nothing for days at a time, which was how he preferred it, and how he'd hoped it'd be today. No need to freak the new girl out so soon.
"Take a seat." Oliver nodded his head to the chair to the left of him.

"I've got my eyes. Hope that's enough of a packet." Kas quipped, making her way towards the nearby chair and promptly moving to settle down upon it. Boy was she glad she didn't bring any of her stuff in with her.
She took a moment to get settled in , laying back into her chair and peering up at the monitors. She'd have asked if this was all they had to do but she trusted he'd give her instructions when something actually happened. All of this quiet time gave her plenty of opportunities to start doing a bit of passive meditating. Get her mind going, ponder over a few things.
It was one of her favourite things to do. It was a scholar thing. Philosophizing was a 'thing' she just couldn't grow out of, and at this rate it was likely all she could do. She did give Oliver a few occasional glances, watching what he was doing. But for the most part, unless he said anything, she'd just sit there with her legs crossed in relative silence, only taking a moment to neat out her hair. Seems personal grooming was still a big thing to the woman.
She wanted to be presentable after all. That was one skill she knew would certainly come in handy later of things got far too boring. That and shadow puppets.

Oliver opened his mouth to say something on several occasions, something very specific, but he kept wondering if later would be a better time than now. Maybe, he thought, maybe he should try to get to know her a bit before springing some creepy shit on her. Yeah, that sounded like a better idea, so eventually he worked up the nerve to talk to her.
"Sooo...we'll be spending a lot of time together from now on...only right that we get to know each other." Oliver didn't look at her as he spoke, didn't smile, didn't move. He kept his eyes on the screen. "Tell me 'bout yourself."

"Uh...I'm twenty five...I live in Downington...in an apartment...and I'm single - go figure. I like pizza and greek food. And I may or may not be a mythology buff. You know, I do a lot of reading...yeah, I'm a major nerd. And I've inherited more shotguns then any sane person should." she wore that as a badge of pride. After all, she needed an excuse in case she started to ramble.
Still, his question made her peer over at him for a moment before she'd tilt her head at him. Unlike him, she wasn't capable of hiding her emotion, idly toying with one of her buttons, tugging at it and running her fingers over it. A matter of habit after all.
"What about you, Olly? You - uh - into anything interesting? The quiet guys usually are. And I like that. Lots of stuff to do out there."

"Interesting? Hardly. I like poetry, geography, history. I also enjoy mythology though, as it is often apart of the history of countries such as Greece. I also like chess but most people find that boring. I've also got an interest in guns but I'm not allowed to buy them anymore due to an incident a while back. Nothing big though, don't worry, I haven't killed anyone."
Now Oliver seemed to be the one rambling, which was odd unless you spent a lot of time around him. But he supposed there was no point in being shy since he'd be working with Kas so often. Besides, he was trying to think of this as new and exciting, he'd worked with the same guy for the past five years, a change would be good. But he still wasn't feeling the excited part, as much as he was trying to.

"...If it wouldn't get me fired I would smack you for that." Kas quipped playfully, leaning back in her chair a little. "That sounds pretty damn fascinating! Believe it or no it's rare to find someone who's this cultured. So many average Joes out there are utter dickheads."
Though her interest was peaked with the use of the word 'accident'. One could imagine what that was. ACcidents involving guns rarely tended to be clean or harmless. 'Armless maybe.
"Well as long as you don't bring one in here and accidently shoot my arm off, we'll be fine! Besides accidents happen. These days...better an accident then a public shooting. And you look like a smart guy." she worked that bright smile of hers, leaning against her arm-rest as she would take note of his excitement.
Sensative to emotions, that was a useful thing to have. And this was a good opportunity to work the typical charms, see if she could get him a little more at ease. For someone well trained in the arts of seduction, this was no problem. It was more then just getting people riled. It was about getting them at ease.
"What was your favorite?"

"What was your favorite?"
"My favorite what?" Oliver still didn't look over at her, but he did glance every now and then.
There was little interest in her, but Oliver was trying to be involved in the conversation anyway. He knew he should probably be more relaxed, considering the fact that he'd be working with this woman for quite awhile, unless of course she wouldn't be able to handle things here, but that rarely was the case. But he liked that she was talkative, unlike the last girl they brought in. Conversations with her were awkward and unsettling.

"You know. Gun. I'm not that savvy on the whole thing but you seem like you know your way around one so - why not tell me a bit about it? I find talking about crap you like's great for passing the time." Kas couldn't help herself with that one. Of course if she went on about what she liked he'd likely find her talking on for days.
The last time she did that didn't end very well for her. So she'd likely try keeping it to a minimum. Play the dull interesting girl for once.
She did notice him avoiding looking at her. Be it devotion to the job or simple disinterest, but not complete disinterset. He was engaging her. He would have told her to 'shut up' a long time ago had he no desire to converse.
"You seem like a rifle man. If you don't mind me saying. You have the arms for it. I could totally see you with one. It'd be a little more interesting then staring at nothing all day."
The question had now been risen to her - did anything EVER happen? The odd crime or two seemed likely but other then that , was there any interesting cases? Ghosts wandering across the view...a murder? A clown with a bat for a head?

"I don't really have a favorite, but I do enjoy rifles, like you said, and machine guns, nothing specific. For the most part though, I don't pick favorites." Oliver finally turned to look at her, but his facial expression was the same.
"But enough of that, there's something I have to talk to you about...I uh thought maybe I could stall a bit but its important..."
"But enough of that, there's something I have to talk to you about...I uh thought maybe I could stall a bit but its important..."
Something more important then his favorite subject? Oh, this was torment to the poor woman. She was curious enough, now she was trying to hold back a smile as she mimiced a look of confusion, givin him a little nod as she would take a moment to drag her nails through her hair, trying to undo a phantom knot.
"Uh, sure. I mean, if it's important...even if it isn't, go ahead." she released her hair, offering for him to continue.
She leaned forward, as if he was about to tell her a great secret, peering up at that unmovingly stonelike face of his.

"Sorry for bringing this up so randomly, I normally say something right away but...last girl they brought in freaked out a bit and you seem like a decent person, in fact I wouldn't mind working with you for a while."
Oliver gave a small smile, which felt a bit awkward but he was trying. Kas seemed nice enough, talkative but not extremely annoying which was an improvement from the last two people he had worked with. He was just too anxious at the moment.
"Kas I need you to do everything I say from this moment on no matter what. I said this job is pretty boring, for me it is at least. I've been doing this a while so by now things feel slow, but in the beginning not so much. I don't really know how to explain the specifics, you just have to trust me."

Yes. Yes. Yesyesyes. This was exciting her further. Impulsive changes, strange circumstances. Asking her to go with something...it must be strange. She tried to hide her excitement to the best of her ability. Oliver might even find her strangely adjusting the angle she sat on, almost like she had sat on something.
"You've got it, Olly. Just tell me what to do."
She went for the short answer. No need to bog down his mind with any more complications. He didn't seem like THAT bad a guy, and from what she could tell of the way he thought, he certainly was no immediate threat to her. Gods knew what was coming next, but what give what will. After all, it took a lot to shock her. But intrigue her on the other hand...she kept her mouth shut. She simply waited for his command.

"Well now...we just wait then. Its too early for anything."
Oliver looked at the clock, it was only about noon so it'd be a while until anything went on. And even so, it didn't get too bad until it got dark. He only stayed until about 10 though, sleep was a necessity after all. But they did have hI'm working a lot of hours. Every day of the week, but during weekends he only worked during the night so that he may have free time during the day, or at least enough time to have a bit of an actual life. The others didn't normally work long hours, but they hadnt been around as long as Oliver had.
"I just wanted to give you a heads up is all," he turned back to the monitors, "that something might happen. Sometimes its dead for days though, but thats only every once in a while. "

The wait wasn't too bad. It tormented the poor girl to death because now she was curious as to what he was talking about. His words only fueled her curiousity. Dead for days?
"Uh-huh...so this is a semi-regular thing. I look forward to the experiance. Shame I didn't bring my popcorn." she murmured, Kas' eyes slowly turning back to the monitor. She seemed to be in a clear mixture of confusion and a bit of anticipation. Almost fear.
Wouldn't want to look too excited for all of this, though part of her felt some latent anxiety. Was it a wierd visual glitch? A ghost? She had to keep the nice girl tyrade up for a bit more, watch what happens next. She took her time during the wait, mostly sitting in place but toying around quite a lot with her clothing. She found herself annoyingly stuffy in that room.

Oliver kept quiet for a bit, before clearing his throat. The silence was a bit unnerving and he himself was rather anxious.
"Yeah it happens pretty often, suppose you'd have to ask Donna and Gage bout the late night occurrences too see how much it really happens. The thing is its not the same every time either...which I'll probably be able to explain a bit more after you've kinda gotten an idea of what "it" is." Oliver sighed, "So...uhm..time will fly by, if we can figure out something to talk about. Suppose I'm not that good at...human interactions."
There was a short pause before he cleared his throat yet again.
"SOO...your uh..what..early twenties? You look pretty young, which makes it kinda odd that you'd want to come work at a place like this. No boyfriend either huh? That's a first, know lots of girls your age who can't get enough of boys. Assuming I was correct about your age anyway." he rambled a bit, unused to chatting. But he figured she seemed so interested in him it was time to stop being so...uptight. On several occasions he had told himself he needed to be more friendly, but that was easier said than done.

Kas didn't seem to mind the awkwardness too much, peering over at Oliver an watching his reactions with a soft stare, unable to help but giggle at his words.
"I'm sure it's something I'll be remembering for a while...whatever it is." she gave a little shrug at the prospect. After all, nothing left to do but sit there and wait. It's not like they could force it - apparently." she found herself wondering exactly what had him so anxious. I mean he'd been pretty chill up to then, but now he was getting all flustered. It was almost adorable.
"It's fine...human interaction scares me too." she admitted. And quite truthfully too. Literally in this case.
"Mid-twenties! Good guess, though. I'll take it as a compliment, wouldn't mind staying young. And yeah, no boyfriend. Kinda accounts for my taste in jobs. Don't get me wrong, I've had plenty of luck it's just...single right now. What about you?" she leaned aside towards him "No lucky girl to keep you busy back home? It'd make a job like this a hellova lot easier."
