Hey hey!
I've got an exposition for my French class, and we've been asked to talk about any french-speaking country we wanted. So, my group and I picked Canada. We're supposed to talk about the history, people, economy, and yes, gastronomy. Now here's where I need help D:
I have to prepare a dessert to bring to class that day, and the butter tarts looked simple enough to do. The only problem is that there are variations of the same recipe and I really don't know what to do, or even if I follow one, I'll get it right D:

If anyone has ever prepared butter tarts and can send me the recipe you used, or a link, if you have used a recipe from the web and it worked, I'll be forever grateful! Even tips will be extremely helpful :D

Thanks!

Ha-haaaa, Canadian pastry chef to the rescue!

Butter tarts are amazingly tasty, really simple, and very versatile. They're basically like a pecan tart without the pecans. (Except sometimes you can put nuts in. Or raisins. Raisins are more common.)

Definitely save yourself some time and buy some premade tart shells; usually you can find them in the frozen foods aisle in your grocery. Or you can make your own if you want - just try to use a buttery, not sweet, dough. Using a sugar dough like you might for a fruit tart just makes the whole thing waaaaay too sweet.

As for recipes, this one looks pretty good to me. You can leave out the walnuts and raisins if you want pure butter tart, or leave 'em in, or just use the raisins. You could even substitute pecans for the walnuts. :p It's up to you! I'd also probably add a teaspoon of vanilla to that recipe, though, and if you soak the raisins in hot water for ten minutes before you add them to the mix, they'll be plumper and juicier. (Just make sure you drain them!)

Good luck with the presentation!
