I stood in the cold chill of the night. The feeling was odd to me but I didn't care. I lost my sister and even a 'home', if that's even what it could be called. "What in the world am I even doing here?" I questioned no one.
Jamie was walking home from orchestra practice. With her Viola strapped safely to her back, she wandered along the sidewalk. Spotting someone standing alone, with brightly colored hair, she slowed down as she got close to them. "Are you lost?" She asked. Normally, she wouldn't stop to talk to someone, but this person seemed to be alone and lost... and she knew how awful that could feel.
Slowly he turned towards the girl and he looked into her brown eyes. Slowly and hesitantly he opened his mouth to respond. "Yeah... but does it matter?" he spoke softly.
"Well. I could try to help you... if you wanted." She said cautiously. Something told her he wasn't the friendly type. But then, she didn't have friends herself, so she wasn't going to judge someone for that. And, geez, he seemed sort of small. Was he a child?
He looked away. "I don't need help." He lowered his gaze to his dark shoes and kicked at a small stone. "Especially from a human."
Furrowing her brow at his odd statement, she sighed. "Okay then... I'll just leave you alone then... in the dark... with no one around... I hope you don't get jumped or anything." Then, she started walking again, heading home.
"WAIT FOR ME!" He shouted running after her, hoping he could catch up.
Hearing his shout, she slowed down, letting him catch up. Aha, he didn't like being lonely or he was worried about getting jumped... or it being nighttime. "Changed your mind?" She asked when he caught up to her.
He looked away as a blush formed on his pale cheeks. "It's just..." He paused, not knowing how to continue. Instead he stood up straight. "You're a girl alone at night. You need protection. R-right?"
"Ah. Uh. Yeah, I guess so." She hadn't considered that possibility. Though, she probably could fend for herself, she figured it wasn't a big deal to let him follow her and 'protect' her. "Okay. Um. I'm Jamie." She put her hands in her pockets, focusing on the sidewalk as she walked.
"I'm Rave." He muttered as he followed behind her, keeping his eyes on the street.
"So... where are you planning on staying the night?" She inquired curiously. "Just out on the street? Or would you like somewhere... less... uh... uncomfortable?"
He looked up at her curiously, then looked back to his feet. He shrugged. "I dunno. How's your place?"
"Eh. It's alright, I guess. If you can deal with my parents." She shrugged. "But I'm sure I can get you a bed or something, they'll probably let you in."
He nodded, keeping his eyes to the ground. "Th-thanks... I guess." He glanced up to her slowly. "But I still don't like humans."
"That's okay. I don't like humans most of the time." Jamie shrugged and kept walking.
He watched her with a confused look, but kept his pace with her. "You're a human aren't you?" He asked curiously, feeling strange having spoken so much.
"Yepp. But that doesn't mean I get along with all humans or all humans like me." She said seriously, entering a neighborhood with huge houses and lots of land.
"I think I understand." Rave silently responded, viewing all the large houses surrounding the street.
Eventually, she turned and started walking up one of the large driveways. "Well, this is my home. If we're lucky, my family will be sleeping or busy." She said.
