It was a dark evening, the shadows descending upon the small city of Unova rapidly with each passing second. A young figure darted from shadow to shadow, heading to the large building on the end of the block. The orphanage In the figures hand there was a basket no bigger than a regular sized sink, another sleeping figure in the basket. Watching the road with growing anxiety, the figure darted up the steps to the front of the orphanage, setting the basket on the topmost one. The figure pushed back it's hood to reveal a younger woman of about her mid-twenties, midnight black hair and blue eyes. "I will always love you my little princess." She whispered over the sleeping baby, tears sparkling in her eyes. Then with a swift movement she laid a note on the basket and rang the bell to the orphanage, disappearing on the spot less than a second later.
*15 years later*
The sun blazed down on the same city it had fifteen years ago, the only difference was the advancing technology in the area. The only building that had not changed during the renovations was the orphanage at the end of the block off main street, it's imposing figure creating a shadow that spread down half the street. A young girl sat in the shadows next to the steps, a black jacket over a dark purple dress and black and purple leggings. She sat oblivious to the outside world, white earbuds in each ear and her hood drawn against the harmful summer sun. The girl had sat in this exact spot for most of the summer, getting shunned from the other kids in the orphanage because of her eye color and her paleness.
So absorbed in her music, she didn't notice a couple boys approaching her until they stood almost atop her. The oldest boy was no more than 16 and the youngest was around 14, each of the other three boys somewhere in that range. They each held a stick on their shoulders, peering down at the girl until she looked up at them.
"Hey look! Jessebelle is sitting in the shade like a vampire!!" The oldest boy laughed, swinging his stick in an arc and hitting the girl, Jessebelle on the hand and leaving a red welt. Tears in her eyes from the pain, Jessebelle stood up and pushed back her hood, slipping her ipod into her pocket as well. "Now ickle little Jessebelle is crying!" The boy laughed again, motioning for the other boys to hit her. Before she could get her hands up to defend herself they were upon her, hitting every inch of exposed skin they could. When they finally stopped, they only did so because the dinner bell had rung.
Leaving Jessebelle barely conscious on the ground, the boys went inside to eat. If Jessebelle were to tell anybody this happened, they wouldn't believe her. All the adults in the orphanage thought she was the mischievous child always causing trouble when in fact she wasn't, most of the time. They always blamed her when weird things happened around the orphanage, like the time when a smaller boy was stealing her things, Jessebelle had somehow strung him from the rafters by his feet. He had been barely conscious when they got him down finally.
Watching the sun dip below the horizon, Jessebelle allowed herself to drift into unconsciousness laying curled up on the grass beside the steps of the orphanage.

"Right. I'm sure I can check the place out,Uncle Lukas."Said a boy. He was talking to someone on the phone, standing under what little protection the roof had from the sun. Normally, he would be indoors, happily reading novel after novel all summer long. But not today. No,instead his uncle called him asking him to do a 'favor', or that's what he had called it. The teenage boy ended the call with a heavy sigh and hit end on his phone. With pale blue eyes, almost icy eyes, he looked at the sky. 'Today really is hot' He thought, pulling his hair into a low pony tail. Then he adjusted his glasses before looking at the message his uncle left him.
Leo arched an eyebrow, this was an orphanage not to far from his house. That was...odd. Still, a lot of the favors he did for his uncle were weird or coincidental. Sometime he thought he had sent Leo on little errands like this on purpose. "Might as well get done with this.."He said to him self.
As Leo walked over to the orphanage he shielded his eyes as best as he could. He looked a lot paler in the sun light, or Leo thought so when he had saw himself in a reflective surface. Pitch black hair, pale pale white skin and pale eyes,and some how he was still Japanese. He didn't know.
Leo looked away, that's when he saw a girl lying on the ground. He breathed a short gasp of shock before running over to her. Leo never claimed to be graceful, but he was quiet when he tripped a few inches from her. At least he had made it to the girl, and then he stiffened. Someone, or people seemed to taken a lot of joy in beating the crap out of her.
"..h-hey.."Leo spoke softly. Very gently he tapped the side of her pale face. He winced at the sharp shock that went through his arm. "..Are you alright?"

Jessebelle woke a little later to the feeling of coldness seeping through her jacket and the thin stockings on her legs, and to the feeling of someone poking her face. Dirt clung to her hair and clothes as she gingerly sat up and pushed the prodding hand away, mentally checking herself for serious injuries. Her head was pounding and a searing pain had started in her left wrist, otherwise she was fine except for some bruises on her arms and hands.
Looking around, she saw a boy sitting near her. "Who are you?" She asked, worried he was going to rape her. Jessebelle scooted back with much difficulty against the wall of the orphanage, cradling her left wrist against her chest despite the pain it caused her.

{..pfft, Leo, rape someone, now that's funny! }
Leo fell back,and as if on cue his black bangs fell over his pale eyes. For a bit he kept his head slightly bowed as she scooted away from him. He looked at her through his hair, and said very softly,"..Leo."He wasn't one to speak up in a lot of situations, especially when he was dealing with a stranger. It was like he turned into a small timed child, but one with a hot temper and sharp tongue to match.
"...Your wrist might be sprained, or broken."He told her, speaking a bit louder. Then he stood up. After he tried waking her up he noticed her wrist, but didn't touch her again. That shock was enoguh to make his right arm go numb.

Watching him from her spot on the wall, she almost didn't catch his name. "That's a nice name." She commented, still a bit weary of him. When he spoke up again, it was to tell her something she had already suspected. Mimicking him, she stood up also but with a whole lot less grace than he had stood up with.
"I'm Jessebelle." She murmered, leaning against the wall of the orphanage as she looked the boy over.

"..You have a nice name as well."Leo replied, he wasn't good with opening up to people. It didn't help when people looked at him, really looked at him. Leo was a boy no taller than 5'3, he was skinny and pale. His black hair,even in a pony tail, was hanging around his knees. To many people,Leo seemed like a girl or a doll, he had his parents to thank for his appearance.
Leo breathed deeply, his pale gaze going to the orphanage, and then he did the Leo thing. He walked right up to the door and knocked on the door. "..I hope you don't mind..but I need to check something."He told her.
He wanted to know why one of the orphanage's children had been left outside, unconscious. Once he had his answer he would most likely treat her wrist, even if that meant constant electrical shocks coming from her.

"Thanks." The response was kind and sincere, but still had the edge or weariness to it. Despite her dirty clothes and bruised face, Jessebelle was a fair girl. Her skin was pale, no matter how long she sat in the sun it never tanned or burned. The shadows matched her hair perfectly as the street lights cut on, giving her a slight glow.
Nodding, she sat down again and looked out onto the shadow ridden street where monsters and kidnappers could be waiting at every corner.
It wasn't unusual for Jessebelle to be out past curfew, sometimes cops found her and brought her back to the orphanage when she was trying to run away. She never got very far though, each time she had stopped at the edge of the city wondering exactly why she was stopping.

"...you are welcome.."Leo replied, and then knocked on the door again. This time it was harder but he still knocked about twice or three times.
Leo looked at the streetlight, night had began to cloak the city. He wondered if his relatives realized he was still out, or if they even cared. At least he didn't have to eat the crap they called food. His stomach churned at the thought, their food was always so grassy..His stomach could never handle it, let alone anything else in that house.
"..well."He said, stepping away from the door,"..may I see your wrist again?"He said. Leo figured that he might as well see what he could do until someone answered the door.

Jessebelle held out her left wrist at the exact time the door opened, an unusually plump woman in a too-tight nightdress standing in the open doorway. "JESSEBELLE! WHY ARE YOU OUT SO LATE?" She demanded, making the whole world seem like it was shaking. Jessebelle's head already hurt enough, no need to add an angry yelling fat woman to that. "Sorry Ms. Lee." She mumbled, getting up from the ground in a hurry.
Leo was just about to check her wrist, but something else happened. When Ms.Lee shouted like that Leo went down to his knees. He shuddered, what was wrong with the woman. Slowly, he covered his ears with a grimace."...what is wrong with you.."He said, slowly standing back up,again. His ears rang loud and clear. Leo looked at her with an icy glare, despite his hair covering his eyes he hoped that she could feel the ice cold glare he was giving her. And then he smiled.
"Excuse me,you must be the woman that runs this orphanage."Leo said in a pleasant voice,"Ms.Lee was it. I have reason to believe that some of the kids here may have broken Jessebelle's wrist."He told her.
Mentally Leo was pleading with god or Satan that his charm would win this huge woman over.
{BTW:Leo has very sensitive hearing, so you can imagine Leo's response to Ms.Lee yelling like that.}

[Yep, I can imagine. My character Lunarium 'Luna' has cat ears that are sensitive. Wouldn't it be ironic if the orphanage woman was a demon?]
The woman gave Leo her own icy glare, clearly unaffected by his charm or his own glare. "The boys here are well behaved angles while this.." She turned her icy glare to Jessebelle "Spawn of Satan clearly causes all the trouble here." The woman finished, turning her gaze back to Neil as Jessebelle tried to make herself as small as possible.

{Ooh, that would be interesting. Especially since Leo would be able to sense that.
[OK THEN I DECLARE HER A DEMON!!]
{Ahah! Badarse Leo it is then! Oh, the only reason he can't tell Jessebelle is, is well because their kind is rare. And forbidden.Now I'm going to post for Leo.}

Leo cocked his head to the side,"Oh?"He countered, Leo took a step closer to Ms.Lee."They're only angels to you, after all, you're not what you claim to be."He said.
Leo,due to the environment he was raised in through out most of his life, could easily tell a demon, from an entity from an angel. It wasn't a gift, it was more so how sensitive he was to things not human. He had to learn when he was young or pay a hefty price.
"So,that makes me wonder what a demon like you would be running an orphanage for."Leo said.

"Ah so figured me out faster than that one." She jerked her head in Jessebelle's direction, who was listening more intently now. "She's live here at least 14 years and still hasn't figured out what I am. Geeze, even your mother knew what I was before she left you here." The woman cackled, leaning against the door frame for support. "Did you think this was a regular orphanage half-blood?"
He wasn't going to take any credit for that one, she kind of wore her identity on her sleeve. But,what she said made Leo wonder something, if her mother knew that Ms.Lee was a demon why would she leave her daughter here? He shook his head, at the moment that was irrelevant.
"Ah, I'm the one talking to you, now stay focused on me."Leo said to Ms.Lee as he snapped his fingers. "So,tell me, are there any humans here?"

Practically growling, Ms. Lee turned her attention back to Leo and smiled at his question. "Only the maid." She laughed even harder now, holding onto the door frame for support. "The only other one that is different here is little miss over there." Ms. Lee turned back to Jessebelle, her glare still icy cold but also filled with knowledge that Jessebelle may never know.
The maid. The only reason she viewed the boys at perfect little angels was because they acted like perfect little devils and beat up Jessebelle. Leo wondered why that was.."And what exactly is she?"He asked Ms.Lee. At this point he thought that she was an angel that was in the wrong place. He was also thinking that he really wanted to but this woman's tongue off. Her laugh was annoying.
