When I go to reply to one of these ads, I so often want to include a note about why I slected those characters or if I mean for the person to choose one of the ones I suggested. I know you can send a pm to the person, but it would be nice little touch and would keep things all in one place.

Yes please! I find myself wanting to do this a lot, or frustrated that I still have so much info to ask from someone interested. Being able to ask for/give a little blurb would streamline the process more.
I don't see why not. That is definitely something I can consider.
