Flames nimbly licked the sky as a fire swelled, consuming a small village. The sweltering heat radiated while it lit up the advent of dawn much like Clove had seen twice before. On her trek it was the third village she found burning though none of them looked to have any inhabitants though she had a probable idea that they had long fled. Contrasting from the earlier vicinities this fire appeared fresh while the others reeked in smoke, chipping away what it cold of the homes- once homes. If there were someone nearby she'd come with many questions as to why this was, but to her dismay no one was near. It was no surprise, really, due to the possible fright the fires could've caused, but there was a city nearby where she planned to stop before she would begin her travels again. Perhaps she'd be enlightened of them things there.
Unbeknownst to her she knew not that the small city was one that loathed magic. If she'd been aware she would've more than likely found her way around if not turning back, however, she approached area with curious intentions. She pulled down her cobalt blue hood as she scanned her eyes over the first few buildings in sight and she lifted her leg up and over the rear of her horse before her feet met with the ground in a soft thud. Gingerly, she pulled the reigns of her horse around, bringing it down to her side before proceeding on foot. "Can you tell me why I don't feel so welcomed?" she asked her horse, her voice thick with her Spanish accent both deep and suave. Certainly she didn't expect the mammal to answer and it only snorted, rocking its head as it followed. "I suppose you're right," a grin tugged at her lips as she gave it a hard, firm pat on its glossy black shoulder.
The city indeed didn't look promising, but it was a temporary stay, or so she intended for it to be.

Mordreth was something of a habitual wanderer. While he might have both a home and many leagues away, a 'base of operations' away from the influence of his father and where the geas was weakest, there were still times when he felt an itch of wanderlust. And in a way, it allowed him to further his search for ways to lessen the geas's hold on him or at least if not that, to gain more coin on the side for him to spend or save, despite having no need to do so in the strictest sense.
Having entered the city also by horseback, atop a regal, obsidian-black Warlander, the sellsword too had passed by the recently burnt village. Some questions had arisen but, he had not lingered and instead had pressed on. What was done was done, after all. He had just passed through the gates and similarly dismounted, when he heard the woman before him addressing the horse in a thickly-accented voice that he truthfully could only just make out.
"You are that lonely that you speak to your horse to pass for company?" While his tone might have been curt, had she looked around, there wouldn't have been any anger or disapproval in his expression; merely a withdrawn neutrality.

If the added soft pounding from the hooves of his horse didn't gather her scrutiny his terse question, rhetorical or not, had. Clove's pace slowed as she peered over her shoulder to the man and his steed, her lips threatening to show an impending grin that she wore only a few seconds prior. As shown on her features she studied him briefly as to contemplate whether he was searching for an answer or not. Either way, she had it at the very tip of her tongue.
"You assume that I am lonely," her hand, firmly placed upon her horse's nape, stroked its coat, "yet I have the pleasant company of my horse. They may not have a tongue to speak but they have great ears to listen." In seeing the ears of his own horse angle towards her she gestured to it with the inclination of her head, "As does yours."
Beyond the conversation silence rushed to meet them, making the last of her words go dead. Perhaps it was because the morning was young, but even so she'd never met a town that could manage to be so still.
