Princess Valencia (played anonymously)

I've been working on this Furcadia dream for a year now. I'm really passionate about it, as well as my taneest, but nobody has ever came and actually joined the RP. They always just enter the dream, look around, and leave, sometimes rudely, sometimes just apathetically. I throw an event, nobody comes. I give somebody a tour, they never come back afterwards. People just don't want to give my dream a chance. Is there something I'm doing wrong here? I'm losing hope.
I know what u mean I really wanted todo one of two ideas one was Sanity under general roll play and the other was UP in the Air under Sci-fi.... each was like an experimental type RP that could have turned out really cool, or rather boring but no one ever gave it a chance....

I feel ur pain.
speaking from experience, furcadia can be a very tough market when it comes to assembling a great roleplaying community. there are a few things to consider that might help you out, but many dreams do wind up having few people joining in. you might know or do some of these things, i'm just offering general tips.

1. is your dream in a populated location & easily visible in that location? if your dream is clustered among other ones, it doesn't stand out that much. many main map dreams aren't overly crowded either. quite honestly, FurN is the best bet & many people dreamhop, but i can certainly see why somebody wouldn't want to take their community to that sort of locale. however, many dreams in FurN aren't actually horribly sexual, and yours could be one of them if you so choose! for example, while the golden tether is a slave dream and is stereotyped as a 'sex dream', it really isn't too much like that. it has heavy adult themes, yes, but it's certainly no smut-fest.
alternatively, allegria island is one good option, but it tends to be heavy on the feral rp or build-a-home side. i believe i saw your dream in imaginarium, which is okay, but not the most crowded.
2. when someone enters the dream, what do they see? i think it's best for the user to enter the dream in an ooc location where people are hanging out. if you and your friends can come and chill in the ooc area of your dream and maybe greet some people who come in, you might snag a few people, at least for a chat!
3. is your dream unique? one dream from the imaginarium that i can think of is draygans hollow. while it had a less technologically advanced feel, it was great because it had a unique feature: almost anyone could come in, and their character would fit. you could have a medieval lute-playing faun chilling out with a plain human from the 60s. you could have a tattoo-covered biker and a viking chilling at the bar.
this is a specific unique feature. if your dream is just the standard medieval/fantasy/royalty, it needs something to spice it up. think of what you can add that you don't see as much or that you wish you had in communities that you've visited.
4. is your dream pretty? does it have unique patches? i realize that this is shallow and can be expensive if you're going to funnel money into patches, but people like a dream that looks customized. when i walk into a dream and see a custom layout with interesting portraits and other things i've not seen before, it's exciting and makes the dream look established- even if it's not. fake it til you make it!
if you don't have the ability to make patches and you're not keen on buying them, you can always just look for more obscure ones that other people don't use as often!
but, may i just say: use the furcadia default patches VERY sparingly. it's a big turn-off for a lot of people, as it makes the dream look kind of lazily put together. that's not the case, of course, but just a quick download can give you tons of better patches.
5. an interesting thought: advertise outside of furcadia! while i've been a furcadia user for many many years, a lot of people have never heard of it, including on this site! by advertising your dream to people who don't play furcadia and encouraging them to download it, you can broaden the horizons of your dream and find people who may become very loyal to your roleplaying community.

personally, i'd love to join in with your dream, but i'm just not a 'standard medieval fantasy' type of person at all. nothing wrong with the genre, of course! just not completely to my tastes.
