The din of distant battle echoed through the valleys and mountains, mixed with the cries and moans of the wounded as a precession of troops, vehicles and supplies limped and crawled along, beaten, battered...defeated. VTOL gunships streak over head towards the rear of the line to provide support for the rear guard.

Looking down at this sad sight, her own armor badly damaged and her body in a state of disrepair, Lydia grimaced as she thought to herself "How did it come to this? This wasn't what was suppose to happen. We are the good guys..."

A large, deadly surprise attack on the Estian capital had been reported just a few hours ago by unknown forces. At the same time a brutal blitzkrieg from the snow covered mountains to the north had hit the northern bases of Avalon and Hiesner. Minerva had been assigned to the smaller northern most base of Hiesner when it had all began.

Now here she was, one of the few higher ranked officers left from both bases, leading the few remaining forces south in a attempt to contact and regroup with larger elements of the Estian military. With the last contact with High command being the report of the capital attack it was the best option. She wondered what was happening everywhere else...
A squad of men walked warily through a dark corridor, their first instinct to kill. Their boots clicked as they walked cautiously on the wooden floor. Their senses genetically altered to aid them in combat. Each and every one of them had their rifles transfixed on the doors and corners of the hallway. A quick blur sped past the leading troop, slicing his chest and puncturing his lungs. The rest of the men set their guns ablaze in a ravenous fury. From behind, two men collapsed to the floor, their necks crudely snapped. The few remaining soldiers were petrified, paranoid to say the least.

After a long while of no commotion, they relaxed. That was a fatal mistake. The shrouded entity's last move made away with these men. It dropped down from the ceiling stabilizers and in one clean sweep, sliced four necks and chests at once. Standing up, this, 'thing', was revealed. It was a man encased in pristinely crafted, full-body combat armor. Dual plasmic black steel blades rested in his palm. A rifle settled onto his back, and dual-pistols rested on his thighs. One last man remained, his rifle shaking in his grasp. Before he had the chance to pull the trigger, the figure had snatched the gun, and flung the man over his should.

"P-please," the fallen soldier stuttered, frantically crawling backwards. "I-I ha-" before the soldier could finish his plea for mercy, the figure plunged his Katana into his heart. The blood splattered on his armor, quickly sliding off because of its fluid-resistant covering. Swiftly walking away, the mass of metal exited through the building by window. Smashing it with his fist, he hopped out, sticking his Katana into the bricks, slowly his fall. After safely landing on the ground, he pulled his blades out, and walked away.

"Lydia," he spoke softly to her, "I'm coming." He knew she didn't know who he was, but he had to help due to his contract. "Just," he paused, "don't die."

A major turn of luck had happened shortly after her troops had arrived at the exit to the mountains, turning quickly into a huge forest and enemy had pulled back for now. Quickly Lydia ordered her troops to move deeper into the forest and set up camp. The wounded could no longer maintain the pace they had set.

Now Lydia, her armor patched back together, sat in the back of a apc, controlling a uav with laptop sat in her lap. Since she rarely had to sleep Lydia took it upon herself to keep watch over the sleeping troops for the night...and maybe get a communication signal from higher command. If they couldn't contact any allies it would be a long, hard road south towards both the largest Estian base of Gevona.
