Hi Gang!

I'm working on a project for which I need to do research into simple games that involve mazes, or trying to navigate around obstacles. Hopefully top down, not sidescroller. Pac man might be an example, if the maze changed randomly per level and there were other obstacles (like pits).

Do you have favorite games in this genre? :)

My favorite games involving mazes happen to be Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, (not sure if that counts, but it has a lot of ideas in it.), mainstream Pokémon games, Zelda, etc. Nintendo's crazy about mazes, so if you ask me, take inspiration from them. ^^
I am sure you've already tried this, but on the off-chance that you haven't, I highly recommend just doing a Google search for old top-down dungeon crawlers. Many of them are randomly generated and involve things such as traps, monsters and treasure in addition to potentially labyrinthine environments. I haven't had much personal experience with such games outside of the now-defunct MMO Wyvern, so I'm afraid I can't make any particular recommendations.

If you're interested in something similar but closer to the horror genre, you could look at the recently greenlit Steam game, Darkwood. There is also Teleglitch, which lies in roughly the same vein.

Here is a website with a lot of information about mazes in general. It has some interesting programs that might be relevant to your research, and some pretty cool other tidbits besides.
