...by that, meaning the ability to buy more image slots for a price, much like you can with character slots or additional pages that you can have the boost for all characters permanently after a one-off payment.

I can see how this is super useful. I wonder how big of an impact this would have on RPR financially though. The site runs on Epicness, so logically speaking if every feature from an Epic gets put up as an individual permanent upgrade, the site would run out money very fast (a one time payment for a permanent perk is cheaper than paying monthly, after all). Edit: by 'every feature' I mean that Epicness should still be something desirable to users. Character slots and pages are some of the biggest reasons to get Epicness, which are standalone upgrades already. Gallery images is probably next on that list. I think the subscription would lose its appeal if we add more perks individually.

True, I guess it's just sort of frustrating when I only want part of the Epic Membership perks rather than all of them! I can understand what you mean about the financial side however.

I totally get that! That's why I usually recommend trying to enter the yearly Epic Week contests, since many of the contests are doable by most people and yield epicness as rewards quite often. It's the only reason I have Epicness myself, as I can't afford to put money into the site directly but I still want a bunch of perks.

I'm less worried about Epicness becoming less "special" (it's a total feel good and/or status thing for a lot of people, so long as custom profiles colors is always epic-only) and more worried about the economics.

Although it's true that all characters cost money to store, the part that costs the most to store is their images. I have been hesitant to add a one-time payment for them because the profit margins over time would be much smaller -- once they are uploaded to the site, they continue to cost money in storage and bandwidth long after the one-time payment has been spent on hosting.

At the moment tying extra images to Epicness means that they are paid for continually, AND the number of people who are able to reach 50 images is fairly low. This is a very healthy recipe for a relatively little site like this.

If I were to add à la carte one-time-payment image packages, they would be very small - a handful of extra images at a time - and they would be kinda pricey. I have a suspicion it would be an unpopular move.
