Yeah, for me it's a trust issue. I personally don't like high whimsy fantasy where there's no crunch--I like solid realism mixed in with my dragons and magic. If you're playing a character who's supposed to be really buff, I trust you to do the 60 seconds of research required to find an appropriate weight for them. It's more immersive that way. It doesn't help that a good number of characters who have height-weight discrepancies are Mary Sue- or Gary Stu-ish...
Actually, with their wingspan, even with hollow bones, ponies are probably way too heavy to fly. But, magic.
Everybody had good points. Realism, mary sue-ism, etc. I guess part of the challenge of roleplay is getting over our egos, and getting to the point where we're not writing to impress, or to win, but to tell stories, and have fun.
Maybe that's my problem. I don't even know if there's a casual-hardcore rp divide, but if there is, I'm probably casual. I've never even been in an rp that used numbers for anything. I'd rather "lose" (I don't think that term has any meaning in collaborative storytelling) a hundred times while making people laugh then "win" once - so nothing people do with their characters can really get on my nerves, unless it's somehow making it impossible to continue the plot, which I haven't actually seen happen yet, now that I think about it. Not saying it doesn't happen, though.
Jeez. Are run-on sentences ever not awesome?
P.s. What about the opposite case? If I had an obese, unattractive character whose listed weight was way higher than it should be, would people still get just as mad?
P.p.s. aloha, 'cause I'm totally posting from Hawaii

There's a pretty serious divide (har har puns), and a spectrum of greys in between. In some games, numbers really, really matter, and fudging your weight (or anything else, I guess) can amount to unfair cheating. In some games it won't matter at all. Also, I always assumed ponies were mostly made of sparkles and cotton candy.

I have actually witnessed this argument personally! More than once! People will jack up their weight in order to carry more/break doors down/whatever, to a point where they should not actually be able to stand up, and other people complain they are giving themselves a wrecking ball advantage that is not supportable by life or the weight rules of whatever game they are playing.

JEALOUS.
Kim beat me to it, what she said.

Partly. Ponies are also made of marshmallows, jello, magic, sunshine, rainbows, and friendship.
P.s. Still in hawaii, sitting on the beach with a mai tai as I post this
Also I can see a volcano from here
P.p.s. If it makes you feel any better it's back to work tomorrow, heaving line and painting bulkheads and sleeping in a coffin
Lol i just went with the sizes i hear of good sized bears when i made Reggie.
with Ottbjorn i figured 400 Lbs would be a good weight for a Wendigo. Glen being my tree dragon i wanted him to be immense seeing as how the tallest Sauropod dinosaur was about 112 Ft tall it weighed about 65 tons. i placed glen being 240Ft tall as about 112 Tons, Sound accurate for a 3000 year old tree dragon?

The easiest I usually go about it is to hop onto the web and look around at celebrities of the same basic dimensions as my character. More than one, then sort of reason it out from there. Muscle mass is heavier than fat so I know sometimes a big brawny linebacker type will weigh more than somebody who's just a little overweight.
There are some good reads in this topic, I especially like Sanne and Heimdall's views on this. For me personally, this has never really been that big of a deal; however, I think it was Kim that said it can become a big deal in a rather serious rp, and I agree with that. On the whole though, it usually doesn't bother me too much to see a character that's, like... Maybe 7'9" and weighs 112lbs, or a female character that has the proportions of an adult film starlet but only weighs in at 90lbs, despite being around 5' 8". No biggie to me personally, unless it's in, like, something that we (whoever is in the rp with me) agree ahead of time that the character statistics are super cereal.
I'm a bit of a big guy myself - I weigh in at around 200, maybe 195 or 205 these days, been a while since I've checked - and am only about 5'10" so it's really a bit of a kicker to see all these 6'0" guys that weigh 150lbs lifting eight tons. The obvious answer is that they are super saiyans, and we'll just have to accept that, guys .

I've never actually considered weight whenever I'm writing some kind of form for my characters because it never seem to come up in any RP I've crossed. Still, I guess when writing a complete form, you would have to consider something like this if you've already listed down a height.
I never was really confident in trying to make a weight for my characters, though (and I have more than 50...) I'm around 5'4'' and I weight 110lbs...but in a way, I have no idea how to describe characters with their build either, so I should try practicing more with that.

This thread is very old, but I thought this was interesting: I'm 5'4" and weight 95 lbs.
I don't have great eating habits--school is busy and my ADHD medication basically makes my appetite non-existent--but I've always been underweight, even as a child, no matter how much I eat.
I'm not toned, I'm tiny. But I definitely have fat on me. I think I just have an insanely small frame.
I don't have much fat on me, of course; my weight frequently drops to 90 lbs when I get really obsessed with school work, and when that happens, my collarbones and hipbones are definitely more noticeable. Even at that weight, though, I still have fat on me.
I'm only fourteen, though, so this probably doesn't apply to many characters/people.

Bumping is fun
I wanna reply now.
Admittedly I'm not the best with weights and I often just say thin, chunky, etc. But I should include exact weights more.
Anyway, I'm 5'4" and I weigh 108 lbs about, and since Gwen is petite (thin and 5'1") I made her weigh around 110.
I'll probably use that site for height and weight comparisons though.
