Mai shook her head "Not right now, sorry. We can try going to get some food at a restaurant or try getting ingredients for something at the store. I need to change out of this stupid suit first." She said, opening the door to the hotel building and both being greeted by the woman at the front desk.
Whit followed her inside and waved politely to the woman as well. "I've never understood the need of such fancy clothes. Only nobles and kings wore those back in my day," he mumbled. "That and those rotten merchants. Cheating slicksters, those are."
"I don't really care who wore them before just as long as I don't have to wear them all the time. Also, you act like you aren't only a teen at least you look like you are in your teens." She said calmly as she walked over to the elevator. It wouldn't surprise her if this guy was past the age of eighteen.
He tilted his head to the side in consideration. "Well, let's just say I've been around for a while." With his crossbow in tow (which didn't seem to raise a fuss with the woman at the desk), he stepped into the elevator. "My friend, the one who practices witchcraft; he's a familiar. Ridiculously optimistic. His magic also works wonders... Even when you don't want it too." He went silent as if to drop the subject.
(Note that him being in a modern setting isn't necessarily canon, but I figure a little magic from my character Snicker could land him in a situation like this. )

( And of course, Mai is the one to find him.)
"I could say the same about myself but most would say I'm still young because of a physical number." Mai knew that she acted a lot older than 23, being down to earth and having her life in order for the most part, avoiding going out to parties to drink herself silly. She hasn't actually been to a party since she was sixteen and she hated it. "Most powerful magic users doesn't realize the strength they have until it gets out of hand." She pressed a button that had the number four on it, her room was on the fourth floor.

He tsked at this, shaking his head. "You wouldn't think he was a powerful magic user by looking at him; just a hyperactive fox that's addicted to that beer of roots or whatever it's called." He looked at the button she'd pressed. "They also didn't have inns this tall. Next thing you know they'll be launching people to the stars." He watched the light change numbers as they went up.
"Root beer, you mean. It's a simple soda which is probably the cause of his hyperactive." She looked at him with surprise, had he not really known that there already has been a person sent into space. "Not to burst your bubble or anything but both America and Russia have sent people into space and we have had a person on the moon and a rover on Mars."
"He must be a drunkard then. He insists it's not beer, but I don't see why they'd name it that. And how can anything but a god land among the stars?" He stepped out once the door opened. "The people here are so strange."
"It's not beer, I am not sure as to why they named it that but it isn't made with any of the alcohol known as beer. Also, science has long since proven that there is more outside our sky and much past our solar system. Please tell me you at least now that the world isn't flat." She said as she walked out of the elevator and headed for her room.
(Beer of roots... I'm using that for now on when I drink root beer.)

(It's reactions like that that I absolutely love to get with my humor. )
He stood there a moment, eyes wide.
"It isn't?"
Stifling his questions, he followed her into the apartment, looking about. He carefully propped his crossbow by the door and took off his coat, laying it over the weapon. "It feels nice in here. One thing I like about buildings nowadays is that they always have fair air inside, like you can control the weather."

(Oooh. I can tell this is going to be fun. )
Mai rolled her eyes, trying not to laugh actually. "The world is round, we are currently on the side of the world. Gravity, which weights us down, is what keeps us in place. What time period are you form?" She went to one of the beds and pulled her suitcase on top of it. She removed her blazer and shook her head at his next comment. "Air conditioning, the temperature in a room can be controlled by adding or taking away heat. I'm going into the loo to change clothes." She pulled out a simple pair of faded jeans with a cut on the left knee and long sleeved red shirt. She walked into the bathroom and started to change once the door was closed and locked.

"Conditioning air," he whispered. "She is[/] a witch." He sat on the bed quietly, looking over at the TV. He'd encountered those before, but was still confused by it, as he was by many of these new things.
"... And what the heck is a loo?"
Looking out the window, he gazed upon the rest of the street and its bounties. Cars passed underfoot, people walked with fancy bags and ride on wheeled contraptions; all new.
He called out to Mai, "And you've adapted to all this?"

Mai hadn't taken long to change clothes and walked out of the bathroom as he had just called out to her. "I grew up around most of this. It was harder learning a second language for me than it was to get use to a couple changes."
She walked over to her bed and folded up the suit, placing it in her suitcase. She grabbed her black leather jacket form the coat rack and put it on. "Alright, would you rather wait at a restaurant for food with a bunch of other people or just wait for me to get some ingredients at the story to cook something to eat?"

"You mean at a tavern? I wouldn't want you to waste your coin at a store when we could get it straight from a cook. That, plus I'd like to look for any bounties they have up." He tilted his head. "Do they still have mead? And mutton?"
Mai let out a sigh. "Viking area has long since passed. We are currently in a time that is past the one thousands times and into the two thousands. Taverns don't really exist these days, they have been changed into restaurants, which seeing as you probably don't have any table manners, I'll have to teach you that. I'll be back within two hours, maybe less." She grabbed her room key and a small brown leather wallet before leaving the room.
He sighed at hearing that taverns no longer existed and waved goodbye. "Pity..."
For the rest of the time he fiddled with the magic box that was the telly curiously, eventually discovering how to turn it on and the joys of Spanish soap opera.

It hadn't taken Mai long to find all she needed to make a common dish in Germany, though she hasn't had it in a long time. Eintopf a broth, various vegetables, potatoes and some pork and beef. She enjoyed the meal but hoped that it would suit Whit's tastes. She paid for the food and walked back to the hotel. Once out of the elevator, she walked to the room and unlocked the door, hearing the foreign language known as Spanish.
Whit looked at Mai as she came in, blinking. "Hey. You got everything? Want me to help you out?" He knew how to cook rather well, having to do it a lot on the road.
Mai nodded. "Yeah, it isn't common where we are now but it is quite common in my homeland. I need you to help cut up all the vegetables and meat. It's more like a soup but great to eat in the winter." She said, smiling for once. She did enjoy making and eating German food, it always brought back the good memories of her childhood spent in Germany. She set the bags down on the small counter in the tiny kitchen that was in the room. She made sure that she would be able to cook while staying in America.
Whit nodded and pulled out his knife, wiping the blade. "I can cut fine. Have plenty of experience." He cleaned the knife to the sink thoroughly.
